Blessed Jesus, at Your Word Blessed Jesus, at your Word We are gathered all to hear you. Let our hearts and souls be stirred Now to seek and love and fear you, By your teachings, sweet and holy, Drawn from earth to love you solely. Gracious Savior, good and kind, Light from Light, from God proceeding, Open now our heart and mind; Help us by your Spirit s pleading. Hear the cry your people raises; Hear and bless our prayers and praises. God So Loved the World God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him. In Adam We Have All Been One In Adam we have all been one, one huge rebellious man; we all have fled that evening voice that sought us as we ran. We fled thee, and in losing thee we lost our brother too; each singly sought and claimed his own; each man his brother slew. But thy strong love, it sought us still and sent thine only Son that we might hear his shepherd s voice and, hearing him, be one. O thou who, when we loved thee not, didst love and save us all, thou great Good Shepherd of mankind, O hear us when we call. Send us thy Spirit, teach us truth; thou Son, O set us free from fancied wisdom, self-sought ways, to make us one in thee. Then shall our song united rise to thine eternal throne, where with the Father evermore and Spirit thou art one.
Free Us, Emmanuel Come, O come, Emmanuel! Come, and set us free! Come, O come, Emmanuel, and set your people free. Free us from the heavy chains of our sin and our sadness and body of pain. Free us, O Emmanuel, from the sorrow and suffering of where we dwell. Lord, we are calling, how long do we wait before the glory of the kingdom we can celebrate? Tell us, Lord, we are calling, hear the cries of the people calling: Free us from the heavy chains of our sin and our sadness and body of pain. Free us! Come, Emmanuel, break the bars, tear them down from humanity s cell. Your light shall break as the morning. Your health shall surely spring up. For when you call the Lord of all, he will say, Here am I. O Magnum Mysterium O magnum mysterium Et admirabile sacramentum, Ut animalia viderent Dominum natum, Jacentem in praesepio. Beata virgo, cujus viscera eleguntur Portare Dominum Christum, Alleluia! O great mystery and wondrous sacrament, that animals should see the newborn Lord lying in their manger. Blessed is the virgin whose womb was chosen to bear the Lord Jesus Christ. Alleluia! Jauchzet dem Herrn, alle Welt, Part I Jauchzet dem Herrn, alle Welt, dienet dem Herrn mit Freuden! Kommet vor sein Angesicht mit Frohlokken, alleluja! Shout to the Lord, all the earth, serve the Lord with gladness. Come before his face with rejoicing, alleluia! An address from Martin Luther College Choir president, Jared Natsis. (Jared is a senior at Martin Luther College. He will graduate in May and continue his studies for the pastoral ministry at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in the fall.)
The Spheres from the Sunrise Mass Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison, Kyrie eleison. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. His Robes for Mine Please join in singing the hymn as indicated. Choir: His robes for mine: O wonderful exchange! Clothed in my sin, Christ suffered neath God s rage. Draped in his righteousness, I m justified. In Christ I live, for in my place he died. Refrain: I cling to Christ and marvel at the cost: Jesus forsaken, God estranged from God. Bought by such love, my life is not my own: My praise my all shall be for Christ alone. His robes for mine: what cause have I for dread? God s daunting law Christ mastered in my stead. Faultless I stand, with righteous works not mine, Saved by my Lord s vicarious death and life. His robes for mine: God s justice is appeased. Jesus is crushed, and thus the Father s pleased. Christ drank God s wrath on sin, then cried, Tis done! Sin s wage is paid: propitiation won. Refrain Choir: Refrain
What Wondrous Love Is This What wondrous love is this, O my soul. What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss to bear the dreadful curse for my soul. To God and to the Lamb I will sing. To God and to the Lamb, who is the great I AM, while millions join the theme, I will sing. And when from death I m free, I ll sing on! And when from death I m free, I ll sing and joyful be and through eternity I ll sing on. Heaven s Door or Begin the Song of Glory Now As Mary walked to the tomb that day, an angel rolled the stone away. Have no fear, the angel said, your Lord is risen from the dead. Refrain: Sing, Alleluia! God be praised; Jesus from the tomb is raised. Sing alleluias evermore, Love has opened heaven s door. The Roman soldiers grew faint with fear to see a mighty angel appear. The earth, it shook with a quaking sound, and all of the soldiers hit the ground. Refrain. When Peter entered the tomb with John, they both could see that Jesus was gone; the cloth he wore was there instead, for Christ had risen from the dead. Refrain. Then off they ran to tell the story; God had raised his Son to glory. Go, deliver the news, they said, that Christ is risen from the dead. Refrain. Begin the song of glory now: the Son has risen from his grave! The night of mourning long is past; life has a purpose, after all. Our Samson smashed the gates of hell, and we are free at last, at last! Begin the song of glory now: the Son has risen from our grave! Prepare the song of glory now: the Son has risen from his grave! Composers, players, find new sounds for instrument and voice: a note, a chord, a Kyrie, a Gloria. Prepare the song of glory now: the Son has risen from our grave! Repeat the song of glory now: the Son has risen from his grave! Complete the Easter overture, and join the Alleluia choir. In Jesus name, the song begin, and end: All praise to God alone! Repeat the song of glory now: The Son has risen from our grave!
Now the Green Blade Rises Now the green blade rises from the buried grain, Wheat that in dark earth many days has lain; Love lives again, that with the dead has been; Love is come again like wheat arising green. In the grave they laid him, Love by hatred slain, Thinking that he would never wake again, Laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen; Love is come again like wheat arising green. Forth he came at Easter like the rising grain, He that for three days in the grave had lain; Raised from the dead, my living Lord is seen: Love is come again like wheat arising green. When our hearts are wintry, grieving or in pain, Your touch can call us back to life again, Fields of our hearts that dead and bare have been; Love is come again like wheat arising green. The Yearning There is a yearning in hearts weighed down by ancient grief and centuries of sorrow. There is a yearning in hearts that in the darkness hide and in the shades of death abide, a yearning for tomorrow. There is a yearning for the promised One, the Firstborn of creation. There is a yearning for the Lord who visited his own, and by his death for sin atoned, to bring to us salvation. Emmanuel within our hearts. There is a yearning that fills the hearts of those who wait the day of his appearing. There is a yearning when all our sorrows are erased and we shall see the One who placed within our hearts the yearning. A free-will offering will be received at this time. The offering is used to defray the expenses of the choir. Your generosity is appreciated.
Jesus, My Joy Please stand and join in singing the hymn as noted.
He Watching over Israel from Elijah He, watching over Israel, slumbers not, nor sleeps. Shouldst thou, walking in grief, languish, he will quicken thee. I Want Jesus to Walk with Me I want Jesus to walk with me; all along my pilgrim journey, Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me. In my sorrows, Lord, walk with me; when my heart within is aching, Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me. In my trials, Lord, walk with me; and when the shades of life are falling, Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me. God So Loved the World For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall never die but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him.
