Additional benefits of this functionality include: Single point of administration for all handsets - no need to collect an individual handset for configuration changes Templates for common system parameters Easy deployment Push user templates on applicable handsets Remotely update software to enable new functionality 2.1.1. TWO-WAY MESSAGING The Ascom Messaging applications run on the Ascom UNITE solution and are accessed and configured via a standard web browser. The Messaging aspect is built round the Ascom UNITE platform which is an IP based system platform for messaging. It consists of interacting applications and services distributed over an IP network that is typically integrated with other third party systems. Ascom s UNITE provides a standard communication protocol common to different applications and hardware modules that comprise the Ascom UNITE solution. UNITE uses interactive messages to create advanced two-way solutions where alarms or messages can be prioritised over voice messages, colour-coded for easier recognition in the handset. Simple text messages can be sent from a web browser or automatic messages sent when triggered from a handset or a physical input. Page 8
2.2. BENEFITS OF ASCOM S UNITE The benefits of Ascom s UNITE include: UNITE Benefits Communicate information to mobile staff Two-way Messaging Group Notifications Visual prioritisation of alarms or messages Ascom UNITE can communicate assignments and relay time-sensitive information instantly to your mobile staff or prioritise work activities of limited resources to improve efficiency and utilisation. Two-way messaging provides valuable feedback on acceptance of staff assignments. It assures timely task execution by acknowledging when a task is complete or initiating an automatic escalation based on predefined rules. The UNITE solution supports two-way interactive messaging as well as simple text and advanced group messaging via a browser interface. Configure work teams to enable group notification and make certain users receive only messages and alerts relevant to their role or department. Predefined messages can easily be created and customised for specific alert and message content. The ability to reach mobile staff members within seconds and require message receipt acknowledgement creates a powerful tool to improve team collaboration and response time Sensitive alarms or messages can be prioritised visually by colour-coding and easily recognised audibly by distinctive message tones. This is particularly useful for messaging in time critical situations e.g. product withdrawals, store deliveries. Page 9

3.1.1. D81 BENEFITS The benefits of Ascom s d81 handset include: d81 Benefits Centralised Management Message prioritisation Task management Colour coded messaging PTT (Push-To-Talk) Robustness This solution of single-point administration not only saves cost and time for the administrator, it also contributes to smooth daily work since handsets don t need to be collected for upgrades, parameter settings etc. Messages can also be prioritised in the sense that the most acute messages always appear on top of the message list. Prioritisation can be made according to urgency or to identify a special sender. Ascom messaging system can also be used to optimise work flow e.g. for porters at hospitals, maintenance staff in industry and service staff in hotels. Jobs are assigned directly from any PC and forwarded as messages to staff with Ascom handsets. They can be sent to groups, or the person with the shortest list of tasks, even those in a specific part of the store. If instructions are not acknowledged, they are forwarded to other users until accepted. On completion staff can flag the task as finished. Messages can be highlighted with colours according to their priority/urgency or to identify a specific department. Furthermore, colour coding can be used to indicate a message s status. Initially the alarm is red. When somebody accepts the request, the message changes to yellow and when actions have been completed it changes to green. When sending a request to several people, those who do not accept the assignment will know that somebody has attended the message by looking at the colour i.e. if it has been answered, if it is being dealt with or whether it requires further action. A PTT session can be triggered from any message whether it is an e-mail, an alarm from a production stoppage or a signal from a machine that is overheating. Alternatively a user can send an invitation from his handset to a pre-defined group of people. The d81 does not break easily making it suitable for use in harsh environments. As a result you can benefit from longer life cycle and lower maintenance costs. The handset has been drop tested from 2 meter. Page 12
3.2. I62 HANDSET The Ascom i62 VoWiFi handset is a feature rich device with colour display, telephony, messaging and alarm functionality. It is designed to work in demanding environments. As one of the first VoWiFi handsets operating on an 802.11n network, the Ascom i62 is truly unique. It supports deployment of voice over the network without degrading the performance of an existing.11n network capacity. When it comes to system administration, our web-based Centralised Management system offers many benefits. Over-the-air updates reduce the workload of administrators and centrally stored settings simplify phone replacement and shared handset scenarios. As well as representing continuity and peace of mind for administrators and handset users, this provides increased value. i62 Features Colour display Water, dust and chemical resistant for easy disinfection Local, central company phonebook 18 Languages, 1 customisable Push-button alarm with distinct alarm types Man-down/no-movement alarm Interactive messaging Voice mail Built-in loudspeaker 3 programmable soft keys 9 programmable hot keys Profiles system and personal Call history list Vibration alert Easily replaceable battery for 24/7 use Centralised management Support for graphical messaging Customised sounds i62 variant feature comparison I62 Talker I62 Messenger I62 Protector Centralised management Central Phonebook Interactive messaging Push-button alarm Man-down, no-movement alarm Location Page 13
