2016 Summer Workshop Application Minority Summer Engineering Workshops 2016 On-line Application SEW 6,7,8th: June 12-17, 2016 (Administrative Fee: $900.00) PREFACE (9-10th): June 19-24, 2016 (Administrative Fee: $900.00) Application Deadline: March 31, 2016 Minority Engineering Programs (MEP) of Purdue University is excited about your interest in attending one of our Summer Engineering Workshops! Many successful engineers, entrepreneurs, and executives trace their beginnings back to Summer Engineering Workshops at Purdue University and we are proud of the work that we do! We have programs for students who are/will attend the 6th through the 10th grades in the Spring of 2016. Developed in 1976, MEP Summer Engineering Workshops were designed to invite 6-8th grade students to Purdue University for a full week of discovery, engagement, and learning about college and careers in engineering. Student Participants are expected to: Tours of engineering labs, engineering design process, academic success strategies, engineering careers and impact. Math abilities are assessed using an online tutorial system; social activities help students make friends from all over the country. Campus life, college preparation and life skills are also part of the agenda. Administration fee ($900.00) covers: lodging, meals, and all events of the program. It does not cover travel to and from the university. PREFACE is a residential summer workshop for students who are headed into their sophomore or junior year of high school. During this program, participants will live on Purdue University's campus and learn more about the opportunities available at Purdue. Students will discover more about the wide variety of engineering careers and examine career choices as they relate to their own values, abilities, and goals. Students will meet and work with students from around the country and will work to design solutions to some of the world's most pertinent challenges, highlighting engineering majors at Purdue. More importantly participants will leave with new academic skills to help you excel in your classes and on SAT/ACT standardized tests. We have seen an average improvement in SAT math scores of 90-100 points. --READ BEFORE YOU CONTINUE-- A pdf of the application is available here, but the only way to apply is through this on-line application.
