Placement at a field study site for clinical training and education is a requirement of the Counselor Education master s program in counseling. Counselor Education faculty will work with students to identify educationally-appropriate placements. Students will have up to three opportunities to successfully interview for a placement. Placements are chosen by the Counselor Education Program faculty, not by the student. Students who for any reason are not able to obtain a placement after three placement site interviews will be ineligible for field study that academic year, and will not be allowed to enroll in the field study course. Future eligibility for field study will be determined by the Counselor Education faculty. Each field study student is required to purchase professional liability insurance. The Field Study student is providing services to the public and, therefore, runs the risk of having lawsuits brought against him or her. Students may obtain liability insurance through a variety of organizations at a low student rate. Recommended providers include Healthcare Providers Service Organization (HPSO; www.hpso.com; $21), CPH & Associates (www.cphins.com; $25), and American Counseling Association Insurance Trust (ACAIT; www.acait.com; $35). Students must present a copy of their Certificate of Insurance to their specialization coordinator prior to beginning field study. Student interns shall be professional and act in accordance and compliance with the laws, counseling values, ethics, Sacramento State academic standards, and the Counselor Education program standards. A significant breach of any of these standards is grounds for immediate dismissal from the field placement, and potentially the Counselor Education program. Confidential Information includes all information that is personally identifiable and non-public. Confidential Information may be paper-based, electronic, or stored or transmitted in some other form. It also may include information that is verbally shared between students, faculty and students, clients and students, clients and faculty, staff and students, and staff and faculty. Students are required to read & be familiar with all EDC related HANDBOOKS located on the GPSE website. Students are responsible for keeping abreast of all deadlines and due dates throughout program of studies. Missing deadlines can impact matriculation and graduation. When in doubt, do not go by what you hear from others in passing communicate directly with your faculty advisor. Routinely check the COE/GPSE/EDC websites for updates & announcements. Save in a file, all syllabi, assignments, copies of forms & correspondence that you receive from EDC, GPSE, & OGS.
