CommInsure Aviation Cover Income Protection for VIPA members In association with

What is Income Protection? Income Protection is a monthly payment that replaces 75% of your income should you suffer sickness or injury and be unable to work. More importantly, Income Protection can pay you up until you return to work (after the waiting period), or if you can t return, for the longer term until you reach age 60, up to a maximum benefit of $2 million. It guarantees a minimum payment so your family know how much you will be paid, going forward. CommInsure Aviation Cover Income Protection is currently the only income protection product available to pilots that provides benefits up to age 60.

Why do I need CommInsure Aviation Cover Income Protection if I already have Loss of Licence Protection? CommInsure Aviation Cover Income Protection complements VLF Loss of Licence Protection. It can: Pay a monthly benefit of 75% of salary to age 60, up to a maximum benefit of $2m. Have a waiting period of between 1 month and 2 years. For example, it can be designed to activate after 24 months, when the VLF temporary Loss of Licence benefits cease. VLF Loss of Licence Protection safeguards member pilots in the event their Class 1 Pilot Medical is temporarily suspended or permanently cancelled. CommInsure Aviation Cover monthly payments will not offset the VLF permanent disability payments.

Why take Income Protection facilitated through VIPA? Income Protection protects you over the long term by guaranteeing you and your family an ongoing salary. The benefit for VIPA members is the ability to qualify for Platinum VIPA membership, allowing VIPA members access to additional benefits. VIPA has the ability to facilitate CommInsure Aviation Cover Income Protection for members who don t currently have cover. If you already have income protection through another provider, VIPA can facilitate Income Protection cover on renewals.

How does income protection work? Meet Mark EXAMPLE Occupa-on: Pilot Captain Age: 48 years Sex: Male Income: $211,000 per annum Loss of Licence: VLF Income Protec-on: CommInsure Avia@on Cover with a 2 year wai@ng period. Sum insured: $13,187 per month In this example, Mark is a Virgin Australia Group pilot, married with two young children under the age of five years. Whilst carrying out simple maintenance around the house he fell and sustained head injuries. Treatment is continuing more than 2 years after the accident and Mark has been deemed to have a permanent incapacity, and will not be resuming pilot duties. Without Income Protection insurance, it would have been very difficult for Mark s family to cope over the longer term.

What happens when Loss of Licence benefits cease? After two years, Mark is not returning to work as a pilot: Where will Mark s income come from, once the loss of licence benefits cease? Without an income, who is going to pay Mark s bills? How will Mark maintain his family s lifestyle without adequate support?

How CommInsure Aviation Cover Income Protection can help Mark Pays 75% of income to a maximum of $30,000 per month up to $2 million Benefit payable through to age 60, after the nominated waiting period expires Guaranteed renewable policy the policy cannot be cancelled by the insurance company provided the client pays the premiums Tax deductible premiums Insurance is transferable and continues regardless of employer, occupation or salary (with agreed value cover) Plus additional features

How does it look if Mark has VLF LoL and Income Protection? THE FIRST TWO YEARS Mark can claim Temporary Loss of Licence Protection benefits VLF Protection PERMANENT LOSS OF LICENCE DETERMINED Mark receives Permanent disability Lump Sum payment AFTER TWO YEARS (up until age 60) Mark continues to receive monthly income protection payments of $13,187* for as long as necessary, until age 60. *Indexed at CPI and subject to a maximum payout of $2 million CommInsure Aviation Cover Income Protection Plan

What is the best outcome for Mark? Mark is not worried about his income, so he can focus on his recovery. Mark and his family have financial security. Mark s life outside of work con@nues as usual. Mark and his family are able to maintain their lifestyle.

So, where to from here? 1 Continue with your VLF Loss of Licence protection AND 2 Establish an income protection plan to protect you and your family

In addition to income protection, are there other types of cover to consider? Do I have appropriate levels of Life Insurance for my family? Do I have adequate Trauma cover? Do I have an adequate will and Powers of Attorney (estate planning)?
