Ivey MBA Management Consulting Club 2010-2011 Post Recruiting Survey Results
Background The management consulting industry has been one of the most desired immediate post graduation careers for MBA candidates. Together with the limited intake at each firm and rigorous selectivity, competition for such positions has become extremely fierce. Not surprisingly, the recruiting and selection process is often intimidating and unclear to those involved. The Ivey Management Consulting Club conducted this post recruiting survey in order to better understand the selection criteria of management consulting firms. We believe that these data will greatly benefit future members by allowing them to better understand their strengths and areas of improvement and focus on firms that most fit their profile. This anonymous survey collected personal information and high-level recruiting related data from 21 Ivey Management Consulting Club members who were extended consulting interviews invites. Only consulting firms that participated in the core recruiting season (2010 September 2010 November) were analyzed. Data collected include: Gender and Age Years of professional experience Professional Experience - industry Undergraduate major Undergraduate grade point average GMAT score Ivey grade point average Degree of involvement in Pre-Ivey extracurricular activities Degree of involvement in Ivey extracurricular activities Number of practice cases completed Number of consulting applications submitted Key observations from data collect: A low GMAT score does not automatically disqualify your candidacy from top consulting firms. The quality of your working experience matters much more than the quantity. Grades matter. The average Ivey grade of surveyed members was 83%, which is approximately the cut off for the top quartile of the class. The average member practiced 40 cases before going into an interview. 2010-2011 Ivey MBA Management Consulting Club Executives Razy Farook Paul von Martels Imran Khan Joe Ma January 2011
