HEC Journal List The HEC Journal List is the result of a completely transparent process that combined input from external experts, existing rankings, impact factors, and an inspection of the journals to be ranked. The entire process is summarized in appendix and described in a publicly available method note and is therefore replicable by anyone who disposes of the same input. This list includes most journals in business and economics that are relevant for HEC s mission as academic institution. In addition it includes examples of journals from other disciplines, like psychology or sociology, to signal that publications in these disciplines are also valued at HEC. Similarly, research published in books and research books are evidently relevant for HEC s mission. 2

Appendix 2. Method The overall approach consisted of searching for an algorithm to combine the different sources of information in a standardized way across all journals of all fields. These sources were expert opinions (solicited from outside of HEC), existing rankings, and journal impact factors. Borderline cases were then discussed and some corrections made. All corrections were based on additional factual information (e.g. acceptance rates, evolution of impact factors).
