1 Global Tiger Initiative - Conservation and Development Network Tigers Online November 4, 2010 This is a selection of websites and blogs that purport to be concerned about tiger conservation. It is not exhaustive - you will likely find additional links within some of these sites. New sites appear regularly. These listings range from the large and elaborate websites of large governmental agencies and international NGOs to modest blog efforts by individuals. T he sites also range greatly in sophistication and quality. Whatever size or level of sophistication, all of the sites presented here purport some level of interest in tiger conservation. The thumbnail descriptions provided are taken from the websites themselves and are presented with minimal editing to preserve, as much as possible, the authors own wording. By presenting these website links we do not in any way vouch for the accuracy of the information contained in them or necessarily endorse the organizations or individuals sponsoring them or the programs they describe. We leave those judgements to the reader. 21 st Century Tiger 21 st Century Tiger is a wild tiger conservation partnership between the Zoological Society of London and Global Tiger Patrol, which raises funds for tiger conservation projects in the field. Established in 1997, it has since become one of the top seven tiger funding agencies globally and has contributed over 1.4 million to over 50 tiger projects in seven countries worldwide. Aaranyak Aaranyak is a registered society working in the field of biodiversity conservation in North East India since Its strength lies in applied research in biological and social field and its thrust area of work is the North Eastern India and Eastern Himalayas. Amur AMUR is a Russo British charity, registered in both the UK and Russia that contributes to conservation activities to save the Amur tigers and leopards from extinction. Animals Asia Founded by Jill Robinson in 1998, Animals Asia Foundation is devoted to the welfare of wild, domesticated and endangered species across the region. Animals Asia is an Asia-based government-registered organization with headquarters in Hong Kong, and offices in the UK, USA, Germany, Italy and Australia and Moon Bear Rescue Centres in China and Vietnam. ATREE ATREE s mission is to promote socially just environmental conservation and sustainable development by generating rigorous interdisciplinary knowledge that engages actively with academia, policy makers, practitioners, activists, students and wider public audiences. Bandhavgarh Tiger Trust The Tiger Corridor Protection Program focuses on the area which covers Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve (448 sq.km.) and Sanjay National Park (1938 sq.km.) and the vast forested blanket that lies besides them.

2 Big Cat News (Blog) Big Cat Rescue Big Cat Rescue, a non profit educational sanctuary, is devoted to rescuing and providing a permanent home for exotic (i.e. wild, not domestic) cats who have been abused, abandoned, bred to be pets, retired from performing acts, or saved from being slaughtered for fur coats, and to educating the public about these animals and the issues facing them in captivity and in the wild. Biodiversity India The India Biodiversity Portal is a map-based wiki focused on gathering, aggregating and serving biodiversity information on the Indian subcontinent. Bombay Natural History Society The Bombay Natural History Society is today the largest non-government organization (NGO) in the Indian sub-continent engaged in nature conservation research. Born Free Foundation Our work to prevent individual animal suffering, protect threatened species and keep wildlife in the wild sets us apart from the rest. Together we reach out to the public, the media and our business friends, who actively support and fund our projects and campaigns, helping hundreds of thousands of animals worldwide. Botanical Survey of India Exploration, inventorying and documentation of phytodiversity (including non-flowering plants) in general and protected areas, hotspots, fragile ecosystems and sacred groves in particular; publication of National, State and District Floras. Identification of Red list species and species rich areas needing conservation; ex situ conservation of critically threatened taxa in botanical gardens. Survey and documentation of traditional knowledge (ethno-botany) associated with plants. Develop a National database of Indian plants, including herbarium specimens, live specimens, botanical paintings illustrations etc. Care for the Wild International Care for the Wild International is a charity dedicated to the conservation and welfare of wildlife around the world. Working with our partners, we aim to protect wildlife and its habitat, rescue and rehabilitate displaced wild animals, and act as a global voice for wildlife protection through campaigns, research and education. Cat Action Treasury CAT works closely with the IUCN SSC Cat Specialist Group, an international network of over 200 experts on wild cats. By harnessing their knowledge, CAT is able to focus on the most urgent conservation needs and ensure best practices. Cat Specialist Group (IUCN) The IUCN/SSC Cat Specialist Group brings together more than 200 of the world s leading cat experts, including scientists, wildlife managers and conservationists from 50 countries who are dedicated to advancing the understanding and conservation of the world s 36 wild living cat species. Center for Coastal Environmental Conservation (Bangladesh) The Centre for Coastal Environmental Conservation (CCEC) is a non-profit, grassroots, local environmental non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Khulna, Bangladesh, that works toward the protection and sustainable management of coastal ecosystems in Bangladesh through local initiatives and participation. Centre for Ecological Sciences (India) The Centre for Ecological Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science offers exciting opportunities for research in a variety of areas in ecology. These include animal behaviour, evolutionary biology and sociobiology, community and habitat ecology, molecular genetics

3 and conservation biology, large mammal and forest ecology, and climate change. Research is being carried out on a number of taxa, ranging from ants to elephants, and including wasps, crickets, spiders, herpetofauna, birds and mammals. The projects range from theoretical to laboratory to field-based research with the different approaches being used in a complementary manner. Center for Environment Education (India) Centre for Environment Education, CEE was created in recognition of the importance of environmental education in India s overall environment and development strategy. Center for Wildlife Studies (Bangalore) Centre for Wildlife Studies (CWS), is a non-profit trust based in Bangalore (Bengaluru), Karnataka, India. Inspired by the pioneering tiger studies of Dr. George Schaller of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), New York, founder-trustee Ullas Karanth established CWS in The CWS has since then blossomed into an internationally recognized centre of excellence in the arenas of wildlife research, training, formal education and conservation. Collectives for Integrated Livelihood Initiatives The CInI would conceive and incubate innovative ideas and practices for improving livelihood of the poorest. The ideas would be piloted through different players active in different states. Our Vision is to see the tribal communities of India enjoy a lifestyle comparable to that of developed communities. David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation is a small, effective charity funding key projects in Africa and Asia working to save critically endangered mammals in the wild. Defenders of Wildlife Proactive Carnivore Conservation Fund The Defenders of Wildlife Proactive Carnivore Conservation Fund helps prevent conflict between imperiled predators and humans by supporting the use of nonlethal deterrents and best management practices. Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia Ecology Asia To raise awareness of the threats facing the region s wildlife and environment, this website has an archive of news articles from regional and global online news sources. End Tiger Trade We are an alliance of 38 organizations representing more than 100 organizations across the globe, united under the common aim to bring back wild tigers by stopping trade in tiger parts and products from all sources. Endangered Species International Endangered Species International is strongly committed to reversing the trend of human-induced species extinction, saving endangered animals, and preserving wild places. Environmental Investigation Agency The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) is an independent campaigning organization committed to bringing about change that protects the natural world from environmental crime and abuse. For twenty-five years EIA has been protecting the environment with intelligence - developing innovative and effective investigative methods for defending the environment and seeking lasting solutions. ENVIS Center on Faunal Diversity (Zoological Survey of India) Objectives: To build up storage, retrieval and dissemination capabilities, with ultimate objective of dissemination of information speedily to the users in the field of animal biodiversity. To promote national and international co-operation and liaison for exchange of

4 information relating to animal biodiversity. To promote, support and assist education and personal training programmes designed to exchange animal biodiversity related information processing and utilizing capabilities. Foundation for Ecological Security The Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) is committed to strengthening, reviving or restoring, where necessary, the process of ecological succession and the conservation of land, forest and water resources in the country. Freeland Foundation for Human Rights and Wildlife Freeland is dedicated to making the world free of human slavery and wildlife trafficking by increasing law enforcement capacity, supporting vulnerable communities and raising awareness. French Institute of Pondicherry IFP, research center of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs carries out research expertise and training missions in South and South- East Asia in the fields of Indology, Social Sciences and Ecology. Global Environmental Facility An independent financial organization, the GEF provides grants to developing countries and countries with economies in transition for projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants. These projects benefit the global environment, linking local, national, and global environmental challenges and promoting sustainable livelihoods. Global Tiger Forum The Global Tiger Forum (GTF) is an inter-governmental and international body established with members from willing countries to embark on a worldwide campaign, common approach, promotion of appropriate programmes and controls to save the remaining five sub-species of tigers in the wild distributed over 14 tiger range countries of the world. Global Tiger Initiative GTI aims to enhance habitat management practices by building capacity in human resources at all management levels through exposure to global knowledge and best practices in conservation. Global Tiger Patrol Global Tiger Patrol (GTP) is a conservation agency prioritizing protection of the tiger in the field. GTP concentrates its work in India, as the subcontinent is home to about 50% of the world s remaining wild tigers. Human-Wildlife Conflict Collaboration The Human-Wildlife Conflict Collaboration (HWCC) is the only organization working with conflict prevention and reconciliation specialists to adapt conflict resolution practices and processes to the field of conservation. Through a practical training program for its members, conservation professionals, often skilled in the science of wildlife, but less so in the art of the human dimensions of their work, will be empowered to be more effective in achieving their conservation goals. Human Wildlife Interactions Journal Human Wildlife Interactions publishes manuscripts on all aspects of human wildlife conflicts, particularly research articles in the areas of wildlife ecology, animal behavior, management applications, economics, and human dimensions. Indian Jungles Purpose: To help spread awareness of the need for wildlife conservation in India; to influence decision-makers in the Indian government on wildlife conservation; to encourage and influence innovative debate, constructive discussion, and consensus-building; to fight misinformation, and through advocacy to build a wider consensus against exploitation and destruction of India s wilderness and wildlife.

5 Indian Tiger Welfare Society (Ranthambore Foundation) Indian Tiger Welfare Society is an independent conservation organization that is dedicated to the cause of tigers particularly Indian tiger. The organization was founded to address the problems that are posing dangers to the survival of tigers. International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) IFAW seeks to engage communities, government leaders, and like-minded organizations around the world and achieve lasting solutions to pressing animal welfare and conservation challenges-solutions that benefit both animals and people. Over the years, our approach has been as varied as the species we protect, but our mission has remained constant and simple: to create a better world for animals. Internet Center for Wildlife Damage Management The Internet Center for Wildlife Damage Management is a non-profit, grant funded site that provides research-based information on how to responsibly handle wildlife damage problems. INTERPOL Environmental Crime The mission of INTERPOL s Environmental Crime Programme is to assist its member countries in the effective enforcement of national and international environmental laws and treaties. The Environmental Crime Programme also works towards enhancing and developing the abilities of INTERPOL member countries at a national level, for example concerning the deterrence, apprehension, investigation and prosecution of environmental criminals, and it helps co-ordinate the actions of multiple countries in cases with international implications. Junglecraft (Blog) JV and the Big Cats To create free ranging self-sustaining populations of tigers in the hands of private enterprise in and out of the Asian Continent Kalpavriksh Kalpavriksh is a non-profit organization working on environmental and social issues. Kalpavriksh believes that a country can develop meaningfully only when ecological sustainability and social equity are guaranteed, and a sense of respect for, and oneness with nature, and fellow humans is achieved. Kids for Tigers The programme aims to bring out the vital connection between the survival of the tiger and the ecological security of the Indian subcontinent. Through edutainment workshops, tiger fests, nature walks, film shows and tiger information kits, Kids for Tigers seeks to increase awareness among children about India s biodiversity and sensitize them to the fact that saving tigers and their forests will also secure our water supply and help save ourselves. Liz Claiborne Art Ortenberg Foundation The Liz Claiborne and Art Ortenberg Foundation is a private body devoted to the conservation of nature and the amelioration of human distress. The Foundation seeks to redress the breakdown in the processes linking nature and humanity. It concerns itself particularly with matters of species extinction, habitat destruction and fragmentation, resource depletion and resource waste. Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (Royal Government of Bhutan) Our mission is to ensure sustainable social and economic well-being of the Bhutanese people through adequate access to food and natural resources. Ministry of Environment (Cambodia) Ministry of Environment and Forests (Bangladesh)

6 The Ministry of Environment & Forests is the nodal agency in the administrative structure of the Central Government, for the planning, promotion, co-ordination and overseeing the implementation of environmental and forestry programmes. Ministry of Environment and Forests (India) The primary concerns of the Ministry are implementation of policies and programmes relating to conservation of the country s natural resources including its lakes and rivers, its biodiversity, forests and wildlife, ensuring the welfare of animals, and the prevention and abatement of pollution. National Centre for Biological Sciences (Bangalore) The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), located in Bangalore, is part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. The mandate of NCBS is fundamental research in the frontier areas of biology. Our research interests range from the study of single molecules to ecology and evolution. National Geographic: Inside the Tiger Trade Inside The Tiger Trade goes undercover with the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) - an international charitable organization dedicated to exposing international environmental crime. This hard-hitting documentary is at the frontline of the battle, following people with extraordinary stories who try to protect our endangered species from illegal exploitation. With skins, organs and bones fetching tens of thousands of U.S. dollars on the black market, tigers have little defense against organized crime, corruption and poaching. National Tiger Conservation Authority (Project Tiger) The main objective of Project Tiger is to ensure a viable population of tiger in India for scientific, economic, aesthetic, cultural and ecological values and to preserve for all time, areas of biological importance as a natural heritage for the benefit, education and enjoyment of the people. Main objectives under the scheme include wildlife management, protection measures and site specific ecodevelopment to reduce the dependency of local communities on tiger reserve resources. National Trust for Nature Conservation (Nepal) The National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) was established in 1982 to work in the field of nature conservation in Nepal. For over two decades, the Trust has successfully undertaken over 200 small and large projects on nature conservation, biodiversity as well as cultural heritage protection, ecotourism, and sustainable development. Nature Conservation Foundation At the Nature Conservation Foundation, our goal is to contribute to the knowledge and conservation of India s unique wildlife heritage with innovative research and imaginative solutions. Our highly-qualified and motivated conservation scientists work in a range of wildlife habitats, from coral reefs and tropical rainforests to the high mountains of the Himalaya. Our research also addresses human resource-use and its impacts on wild species and ecosystems. Operation Charm Operation Charm was launched by the (London) Metropolitan Police in It is the only current police initiative against the illegal trade in endangered species in the UK and uses a combination of law enforcement and publicity in London. Orissa Wildlife Orissa Wildlife covers Information on National Parks & Wildlife Sanctuaries in the state of Orissa. Panthera We seek a future in which the world s 36 wild cat species have the necessary and ongoing protection from human and environmental threats to persist and thrive in the wild. Our vision sees endangered wild cat populations rebounded, critical habitats and core populations connected by genetic and biological corridors, and a global commitment to protect these iconic species through near and distant futures.

7 People & Wildlife Since 2004 P&W provides a forum for human-wildlife conflict issues, promoting non-lethal, innovative solutions, information exchange, and a network to bring together experts, managers, institutions and the communities affected by conflict. Phoenix Fund Our mission is to conserve the exceptionally rich fauna and flora of the Russian Far East, the only region where Amur tigers and leopards survive in the wild. Phoenix is a member of the Amur leopard and Tiger Alliance (ALTA). Prakratik Society (Ranthambore) Our mission is to help improve the lives of local people and to encourage them to find alternatives that would help them become less dependent on the natural resources of the Park (Ranthambore) and at the same time increase their appreciation of the Tiger and its habitat as an important precursor to their own future. Ranthambore Bagh (Aditya Dicky Singh s Blog) Ranthambore Diary (Blog) Samrakshan Trust Samrakshan is a registered non-profit organization working in India for sustainable livelihoods for forest dependent communities and ensuring a kinder world for non-human animals. Save China s Tigers Save China s Tigers has been established to protect and conserve the tiger and other endangered cat species in China, in the knowledge that these are essential for the maintenance of a balanced co-existence with nature. Save Our Tigers (Blog) Save the Stripes An NGO from Jabalphur that works in and around the Bandhavgarh area. Objectives: Preparation & implementation of schemes & projects related to Wildlife Conservation & Preservation; To request support and co-operation from people for conservation of wildlife and its habitat; Conducting awareness camps, to spread the message of nature conservation for the general masses; Assisting in conducting research, field studies and preparing data bank to help Forest Department and other NGOs; Organizing seminars, lectures, conferences, etc to encourage people s participation in the conservation effort of the Society; To create funds through donations, membership fee, grants, etc for the implementation of the Society s projects and plans; To organize camps for cattle compensation; To provide educational and financial support to the educational institutions in the adjoining areas of the national parks Save the Tiger Fund Save The Tiger Fund (STF) is a partnership program between the ExxonMobil Foundation and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) established in 1995 focused on the conservation of wild tigers. ExxonMobil Foundation provides major funding for STF and NFWF administers the program. This year, STF is pleased to be partnering with Panthera to increase critical support necessary to stem the loss of tigers in several key landscapes through a co-funding mechanism. STF provides support to projects that clearly demonstrate measurable outcomes in terms of protecting wild tigers and their population recovery. Saving Wild Tigers (Sierra Club) We raise money for the immediate needs of the wild tigers: Protecting the tiger, its habitat, its prey and its protectors; Supporting the surrounding villages (Community-based conservation), if appropriate; Scientific studies to understand the needs of the tigers; Control of poaching and international trade of tiger parts.

8 Siberian Tiger Project The Russian Far East is home to some of the world s rarest and most unique species, including Amur tigers, Far Eastern leopards, Kamchatka brown bears, and Blakiston s fish owls. The Wildlife Conservation Society focuses on these key species as a means to achieve biodiversity conservation and protect critical habitats throughout this region. We use science as a foundation for designing and implementing effective conservation plans. Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute The SCBI facilitates and promotes research programs based at Front Royal, at the National Zoo in Washington, and at field-research and training sites around the world. Its efforts support one of the four main goals of the Smithsonian s new strategic plan, which advances understanding and sustaining a biodiverse planet. Society for Conservation Biology The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) is an international professional organization dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity. The Society s membership comprises a wide range of people interested in the conservation and study of biological diversity: resource managers, educators, government and private conservation workers, and students make up the more than 10,000 members worldwide. Sundarbans Tiger Project The Sundarban Tiger project is a Bangladesh Forest Department initiative administered by the Forest Department. It utilizes wildlife consultants from the University of Minnesota and the Zoological Society of London to advise on project strategies and train staff. At the field level, there is a small core team made up of Forest Department personnel and Sundarbans Tiger Project staff. Species Survival Network The Species Survival Network (SSN) coordinates the activities of conservation, environmental and animal protection organizations around the world to secure CITES protection for plants and animals affected by international trade. SSN s educational and outreach efforts provides organizations from around the world with the information they need to participate in the CITES process. Terra Viva Grants Terra Viva Grants is an information directory of international grant funding for agriculture, energy, environment, and natural resources in the developing world. The Corbett Foundation The Corbett Foundation, named after the legendary Jim Corbett, is a registered public charitable trust. The Corbett Foundation activities are conducted at present under four divisions Corbett, Bandhavgarh, Kanha and Kutch. The Fund for the Tiger In 1996 we began grants to assist tiger conservation efforts in India and Nepal through the Wildlife Protection Society of India and the International Trust for Nature Conservation in Nepal. The Rufford Small Grants Foundation The Rufford Small Grants Foundation is a new charity established specifically for the development of Rufford Small Grants for Nature Conservation (RSGs). The Sumatran Tiger Trust STT is a charity with its administration costs donated fully by and based in the UK at South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria, UK The Tiger Foundation Our goal is to make a major contribution to the long-term conservation of wild tigers and their habitat. We seek to achieve our objectives through innovative fund-raising; by applying the highest standards of excellence and ethics in our programs; by optimizing

9 our valuable resources; and by forming practical alliances with governments, organizations and top professionals in the field of tiger conservation. The Truth About Tigers This site, as well as the film that it accompanies, is a non-profit, non-commercial effort. Its objective is to answer the many fundamental questions that people have regarding tigers and their conservation, and provide some direction to those who want to get involved. The World Bank The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. Our mission is to fight poverty with passion and professionalism for lasting results and to help people help themselves and their environment by providing resources, sharing knowledge, building capacity and forging partnerships in the public and private sectors. Tiger Awareness Tiger Awareness was formed in 1998 to give the public more awareness on the plight of the tiger. We are a voluntary non-profit making charity and give free talks to schools, the public, and other organizations. All donations and funds raised go towards tiger projects. Tigernet The Official Database of the National Tiger Conservation Authority Tigers for Tigers Clemson University, the University of Missouri and Auburn University have joined forces to help support WWF and its work on protecting the endangered tiger, one of the most magnificent and threatened species on the planet. The tiger mascot schools will compete to raise $75,000 to help end the illegal tiger trade in China and the Eastern Himalayas. Tigers.RU A site about the Sikhote-Alin Biosphere State Reserve in the Russian Far East. Tigers in Crisis This site offers news articles summarizing the endangered status of tigers, along with possible solutions to the problem. It highlights the problems, which have led to declining numbers of tigers, and discusses conservation efforts. Tiger Trust Tiger Trust is mainly involved in capacity building programmes for imparting legal/technical training for the frontline staff in all the important tiger reserves. It has been working in association with the forest departments, IGNFA, Wildlife Institute of India, police departments, judicial officers, stakeholders and corporate sector. Tigers in the Forest A non-affiliated site maintained by Michael J Vickers, a wildlife conservationist and photographer who has a particular passion for tigers and travels regularly to India to search and photograph them in their natural environment. Some of Vickers photographs have appeared in The BBC Wildlife Magazine and in literature produced by The Born Free Foundation, Care for the Wild International, The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and The Environmental Investigation Agency. Tigris Foundation Tigris Foundation is a member of the Amur Leopard and Tiger Alliance. ALTA is an initiative of Russian and western conservation organizations to conserve the highly endangered Amur Leopard and Siberian, or Amur Tiger. ALTA works across Northeast Asia under the guiding principle that only cooperative, coordinated conservation actions from all interested parties can save these endangered species from extinction. As an alliance of organizations with varying skills and expertise, ALTA works in close cooperation with local, regional, and federal governmental and non-governmental organizations, to protect the region s biological wealth through conservation, sustainable development and local community involvement.

10 Travel Operators for Tigers Founded by a group of concerned Tour Operators, TOFT has now expanded to become a pioneering International collective action campaign, run by Travel Professionals, aimed at those within the nature travel industry and all visitors to India s wildlife parks, to advocate, endorse and support more responsible use of wilderness areas in India, and the Indian sub continent. Vunraksha Vunraksha is a non-government conservation organization for the care of forests & wildlife. Being in close proximity to the Bandhavgarh & Kanha national parks, Vanraksha is focusing on conservation activities in and around these parks. The society presently has a very small core constituted of a few individuals committed to the cause of conservation, but welcomes networking & collaborations with other organizations / individuals. Whitley Fund for Nature The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) is a UK registered charity offering awards and grants to outstanding nature conservationists around the world. We locate and recognize some of the world s most dynamic conservation leaders and support projects founded on good science, community involvement and pragmatism. Above all, we champion passionate individuals who are committed to precipitating long-lasting conservation benefits on the ground. Wild Stripes Foundation Wild Stripes Foundation is a young non-profit organization based in the Netherlands that wants to contribute to wildlife conservation, particularly of big cats like the tiger in India. We focus on the man-animal relationship in and around vulnerable natural habitats, by informing tourists about sustainable tourism and writing about environmental philosophy and sociology. WildAid WildAid s mission is to reduce consumer demand for endangered wildlife products and to encourage responsible energy consumption behavior. We do this through global public awareness campaigns, field conservation programs and enforcement of marine protected areas. WildCru Part of the University of Oxford s Department of Zoology, WildCRU is a pioneering, inter-disciplinary research unit in a world-class academic centre. We underpin solutions to conservation problems through primary scientific research of the highest caliber. Wildlife Alliance Wildlife Alliance s mission is to protect and preserve forests and wildlife for future generations. We work directly with communities and governments to improve forest management and institute good governance to comprehensively address the devastation of ecosystems and combat the illegal wildlife trade. Our programs in Southeast Asia and the Russian Far East fight forest crime in high biodiversity areas, and actively promote diversified agriculture, community-based ecotourism, and reforestation. We create economic incentives and build political will within communities to preserve the environment. Wildlife Conservation Network WCN fosters the entrepreneurial spirit in the field of conservation. We partner with independent, community-based conservationists around the world and provide them with the capital and tools they need to develop solutions for human-wildlife coexistence. To magnify the effectiveness of their work, we sustain a strong network of wildlife supporters though which these courageous conservationists may learn from each other and communicate directly with passionate donors. Wildlife Conservation Society India The Wildlife Conservation Society saves wildlife and wild lands through careful science, international conservation, education, and the management of the world s largest system of urban wildlife parks. These activities change attitudes toward nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in sustainable interaction on both a local and a global scale. WCS works in cooperation with local and national governments and conservation organizations by providing information based on its long-term field studies to decisionmakers involved in conservation policy and action. It does this by providing support and information to government authorities to combat poaching and the escalating illegal wildlife trade - particularly in wild tigers. It has now broadened its focus to deal with human-animal conflicts and provide support for research projects. Wildlife Society of Orissa Our objectives are to: Collect poaching and trade intelligence regarding wildlife products like skins, ivory, body parts and live animals; lobby with the state government for changes in the forest and wildlife laws and to ensure their strict implementation; carry out mass awareness and education campaigns among local communities for habitat and wildlife protection; provide legal protection to various forest staff who face false complaint cases Wildlife SOS Wildlife SOS was established in 1995 by a small group of individuals inspired to start a movement and make lasting change to protect and conserve India s natural heritage, forests and wildlife wealth. Today, the organization has evolved to actively work towards protecting the Indian wildlife, conserving habitat, studying biodiversity, conducting research and creating alternative and sustainable livelihoods for erstwhile poacher communities. Wildlife Trust of India Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), is a non-profit conservation organization, committed to urgent action that works towards the protection of India s wildlife. Its mission is to conserve nature, especially endangered species and threatened habitats, in partnership with communities and governments. WTI has made significant innovative and pioneering contributions in wildlife conservation, making it one of India s key wildlife NGOs. Wildlife Vets International We provide veterinary services for conservation projects, training for staff working hands-on with endangered species, and a rapid response to conservation emergencies. We work with field projects on saving rare and endangered animals. An important part of the work carried out by Wildlife Vets International is the education and training of people who live and work in the animals natural range. This training provides people with extra skills, and contributes to sustainable, long-term solutions for preserving endangered species. We hope to improve the relationship between wild animals and the people with whom they share their world. Wildlife Watch Group The Wildlife Watch Group, better known as WWG was established by group of journalists and wildlife experts in October 1993 as informal group who wished to study and monitor issues regarding illegal wildlife trade. In May 2002 it became a full fledge registered NGO in Nepal and is associated with Social Welfare Council (SWC) that focus mainly on wildlife trade related issues in nation and region. Since its inception, WWG has been instrumental in alerting and educating the public on various wildlife issues. It has also been active in urging and reminding the concerned authorities of their responsibilities towards the protection and conservation of wildlife by implementing CITES regulations.
