2 What is Course Choice?
3 COURSE CHOICE PROGRAM GOALS Students enter the next, age-appropriate grade on time and on level Students successfully complete rigorous and advanced K through 12 and post-secondary course work Students successfully complete industry-based certification courses, programs, internships and/or apprenticeships Students graduate on time or early Students graduate with the skills to enter post-secondary programs or workforce-ready 3
4 TYPES OF COURSES OFFERED Approved course providers include five public school districts, every public college and university in Louisiana, Louisiana-based course providers and virtual schools. Course options include, but are not limited to, Advanced Placement, gifted, CTE, IBC, remediation, and traditional areas of high need. Attendance options include face-to-face, online, and hybrid opportunities. 4
5 PARTICIPANTS Eligible Funded Student: Public school students can enroll in Course Choice courses at no cost if they attend a C, D or F school, or if the A or B school they attend does not offer the course they are interested in taking. *Note the school grade determining eligibility is the most recent one issued when registration begins. Eligible Participating Student: Non-public school students or students attending A or B schools where a course is currently offered but opts into Course Choice to meet the needs of the student may enroll in Course Choice as self-paying. Students are enrolled on a first come, first served basis until all funds are encumbered. They are then placed on a wait list and accommodated as enrollments change and/or funding becomes available. 5

7 DURING REGISTRATION PERIOD Registration for students March 7-August 27, 2013 Check the registration portal regularly Determine student eligibility Approve or deny individual student enrollments via the Course Choice portal Identify students with exceptionalities approved for enrollment 7
