4 Key Generation ssh-keygen -t rsa please store key to the directory /home/user/public Use specific filename for yourself Download your public key (extension.pub) from Point webbrowser to Login (user / summerschoolmalaga) go to Access & Security / Keypairs / Import Keypair name keypair and copy content of.pub file into Public Key field

5 Starting an Instance Go to Instances / Launch Instance Details / Image / Debian 6.0 Squeeze Set Instance Name Go to Access & Security Select your imported keypair select sshacess (only) Lauch Associate floating IP Wait for status active and login with ssh -i /home/user/public/<your filename here> root@ip-adress

6 Snapshots Create snapshot of the current state of a running instance Instances / Create Snapshot (next to instance) Start from snapshot Select Snapshot as source at Launch Instance Terminate Instance See instance menu If it s terminated, it s gone

7 Attachment of an Volume Volumes / Create Volume Volumes / Edit attachments attach as /dev/vdx (e.g. /dev/vdb) next free letter is taken for X within the instance reboot instance from webpage or reboot within instance e.g. partition with cfdisk /dev/vdb e.g. format with mkfs.ext4 /dev/vdb1 mount /dev/vdb1 /mnt Such a volume can be reused for other machines

8 Using euca2ools Commandline client source ~/euca2ools/ec2rc.sh e.g. euca-describe-instances locate yours based on ip adress and then you could use the i-... instance number to terminate it euca-terminate-instances i-... please only terminate yours Also check

13 Accessing the OpenStack Container Debian mounter package has been recently developed, Will be provided and documented after the summerschool root has to execute /usr/bin/cloudfuse-start create an container and then login to (same "user" credentials) containers will be visible under ~/swift/summerschool/

25 Data Transfer Using Globus Online Check under Technical Documentation and Links Using the CloudBurst SwiftObject Store with GlobusOnline The endpoint activation is described in the Redmine Wiki Use your username / password from the OpenStack login For transferring local files a computer can be configured as a GlobusOnline endpoint using the GlobusConnect software GlobusConnect can be downloaded from the GlobusOnline webpage Within GlobusOnline the containers are represented as directories: ~/swift/mrsymbiomath/<containername>
