A member of the Shin Kong Financial Group, Shin Kong is the fourth-largest life insurance company in Taiwan and, with a market share of 7%, is the leading underwriter of group life and medical plans in the country. In recognition of its commitment to providing quality service, Shin Kong was awarded ISO 9002 certification in Shin Kong employs over 15,500 people. In 2002, the Shin Kong Group officially set up Shin Kong Financial Holding Co., Ltd. 3 Social Security Government Employee Insurance (GEI): Contributions: All government employees 7.15% of insured salary amount Employee: 35% Government: 65% Key Benefits: Old-Age Benefit: An old-age benefit is based upon an employee s insured monthly salary multiplied by a factor based on number of years of contributions (up to 53 times basic monthly salary). Death Benefit: A 36-month cash benefit when performing official duty; otherwise, a 30-month cash benefit is paid. Disability Benefit (lump-sum): Eight to 36-months cash benefit when performing official duty; otherwise, six to 30-months cash benefit is paid. Dependent Funeral Allowance: Three-month cash allowance for the funeral of the insured s parents and spouse will be paid. Two-month cash allowance for the funeral of the insured s children will be paid. Labor Insurance (LI): Compulsory for all employees between the ages of 15 and 65 belonging to a group of over five employees (Companies with less than five employees may participate on a voluntary basis). Contributions: 7.5% of insured monthly salary of which 70% is paid by the employer; 20% by the employee and 10% by the government International Group Program 2
4 Key Benefits: Old-Age Benefit: The benefit is one month s average insured wage for each of the first 15 years of service and two months for each additional year, up to a maximum of 45 months. The current ceiling for contribution and benefit purposes is TWD 43,900 a month. Death Benefit: A benefit equal to 40 months wages for death caused by occupational injury or disease; otherwise, the cash benefit varies according to period of coverage (from 10 to 30 months wages plus a funeral grant of 5 months wages). Disability Benefit (lump-sum): If the disability becomes permanent, a lump sum disability allowance is paid according to the level of disability (maximum of 60 months wages). Maternity (Female Employees Only); One month s average insured salary shall be paid for expenses related to the delivery of the child. Dependent Funeral Allowance: Five to 10 months cash benefit for the funeral of the insured s parents, spouse or children will be paid. Private Benefits Employees are provided with coverage for death and health benefits after completing a probationary period. Benefits: Retirement Benefits: The Taiwan Labor Standards Law (LSL) requires employers in covered industries to provide retirement benefits. (LSL has not yet been extended to include the commercial and service sectors, but this is currently under consideration.) The retirement benefit under LSL is equal to two months wages for each of the first 15 years of service and one month s wages for each of the next 15 years, up to a maximum of 45 months. Many companies provide a discretionary leaving service benefit in addition to LSL International Group Program 3
5 Death Benefits: Group Life: A lump-sum benefit based upon annual salary or a flat specified amount. Group AD&D: This coverage is commonly attached to the life policy with the same insured amount. Usually, it provides an accidental death and disability benefit that ranges from 5% to 100% of sum insured depending on the degree of disability. Health Insurance: Daily Room and Board: Includes usual ward services, usual daily benefit from TWD 1,500 to TWD 30,000. Medication and Miscellaneous Expenses: Includes medicine and hospital services usually with a limit of 40 times the daily room and board rate. Surgical: Benefits are paid according to a schedule of surgical procedures, with the policy listing the maximum benefit for each type of operation covered and usually with a limit of 20 times the daily room and board rate. Consultation Fee: In-hospital physician's fee, limited to 50% of daily room and board rate. Out-Patient: Few employers provide a benefit for doctors' visits outside the hospital. If provided, this benefit usually pays from TWD 300 to TWD 800 per visit International Group Program 4
