2 IVC Programs Food to Go Grades K-1 Start looking at healthy food options and ways to keep physically fit. Learn how to use the Food Guide Pyramid, choose healthy snack options, and discover easy and fun exercise options that can be applied to everyday lives. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 Safe and Sound All Around Grade 2 Activities display the importance of staying aware and attentive when in public places. Children develop streetsavvy skills through role playing. Safe and appropriate responses to potentially dangerous situations. National Health Education Standards: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 BFF: Body Friendly Foods Grades 2-3 Jump into fitness with interactive activities including Plate Pizzazz which encourages students to color their plates with healthy food as recommended by the Food Guide Pyramid. 3 Something to Chew On Grades 2-3 Children will see the use for which teeth are designed and how their own teeth work based on the shape of the tooth. They will learn how fluoride protects the teeth along with a practice brushing during the program. National Health Education Standards: 1, 3, 5, 7 Don t Give Me Any Bull Grades 3-4 Youth will learn how to stop bullying, shield themselves from being the target of a bully, and how to be an active bystander. Role play to practice basic skills and learning they have choices about behaviors. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 Stay Drug Free Grades 4-5 Learn facts about alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and inhalants. An emphasis on the effects of these drugs on the brain and body, along with role-playing. Stages of HIV infection and modes of transmission are discussed. Students will learn the benefits of abstinence. Plastinated human organs and other activities are used to show effects of drugs on the body. 5 Meth Mess Grades 6-8 Learn the consequences associated with meth abuse. Discuss how meth is manufactured along with the effects on the body and the users life. National Health Education Standards: 1, 5, 6, 7 Pharm Crisis Grades 6-8 The myth of pharmaceutical abuse being a safe alternative to illegal drugs will be destroyed during this program. Interactive activities will empower youth with knowledge about the devastating effects of drugs on teen s lives. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Wired & Routed: Cyber Bullying Grades 6-8 Students learn the most cutting-edge information about cyber bullying, the effects it has, intervention plans, and ways to use technology positively. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 Stand Against Bullying Grades 7-8 Students will be educated about all types of bullying including: cyber bullying, sexual orientation bullying, special needs or disabilities bullying, and conduct problems bullying while learning what role they should take in a bullying situation. 6 IVC Programs Avoid Roids Grades 8-12 The unintentional side effects of using anabolic steroids are shown through before and after photos of famous athletes and former users. Discover that steroid use can lead to devastating long term problems and how to develop a realistic body image. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Balance Your Act Grades 8-12 Learn to decrease caloric intake and plan a basic exercise program. Plastinated human organs are used to illustrate results of poor daily food choices and lack of exercise. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 STDs Not for Me Grades 8-12 Youth are taught the consequences of sexual activity. Students are given accurate information concerning signs and symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases and will be able to identify diseases according to the specific symptoms. Medical photographs and the Safe Haven Law are part of this program. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 The News About Booze Grades 8-12 Students will be provided information about the dangers of alcohol abuse in a myths versus facts discussion. 7 Tobacco: Coughin to Coffin Grades 8-12 Students will discover the hidden costs of smoking in a monetary sense as well as see the effects of smoking on physical health through the use of plastinated human organs. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 Dating: Avoiding the Danger Zone Grades 9-10 This program allows students to identify dating abuse, find means to help themselves or friends who may have experienced it, and recognize a caring relationship. This program supports Indiana s Heather Law which requires schools to identify model dating violence curriculum for use with students. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 Bullying: Imbalance of Power Grades 9-12 This program is designed for students to look at the effects of sexual harassment, stereotyping, and bullying within their school community and their place of employment. Students learn to communicate and handle these situations. National Health Education Standards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 Breast Self Exam Grades 9-12 Young women will learn about early detection of breast cancer through self-exams and mammograms. Selfexaminations are explained and simulated with the use of anatomical models.
