At a predetermined time, Boardroom Solutions TM DataVault s client remote backup system "activates", determines which files need backing up, and what kind of backup (Full or Incremental) is scheduled for that night. 2. It then compresses those files into archives 65% to 85% of the original file sizes. These archives are then encrypted using an encryption key known only to you. 3. After your files are compressed and encrypted, Boardroom Solutions TM DataVault s client remote backup software activates your modem or network connection and sends your encrypted files offsite to our storage facility. 4. Your critical data files are verified for integrity before sending, while being sent and again after reaching our data storage network. This ensures that the data sent and the data stored on our server network are an exact match. 5. After your backup is sent to our server and verified, your computer system returns to Idling state, once again "hiding" until the next backup time. What type of Internet connection is required? Any type of connection, high speed LAN, Cable, DSL or dialup modem. The faster your connection, the better. 11. How long does the backup take? Depending on the speed of your connection and the size of your backup, your initial backup over the Internet will take the longest amount of time. After the initial full backup, Incremental nightly backups are significantly smaller along with data compression resulting in a much more efficient and faster backup.

11 12. Do I need to backup my entire computer? In general, you can avoid backing up any programs that you can reinstall from a purchased CD, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
