Please note there are several Youth Camp Leader positions (18-25 years of age) available as well as two Camp Mentor positions (open age range members with youth program management experience or parents with an understanding of youth developmental needs). Being a Camp Leader or Mentor will provide you with an opportunity to extend your own leadership potential, develop valuable facilitating skills, network with likeminded members and to assist in establishing the next generation of young leaders. U15 Leadership Development Camp U13 Development Camp Friday, 19 February to Sunday, 21 February 2016 Friday, 15 April to Sunday, 17 April 2016 Stringybark Lodge, Gembrook Wombat Corner, Emerald All 2016 Camp Leaders / Mentors must be available to attend the following compulsory training sessions: Camp Leader Training Session - Thursday, 28 January 2016 at 6:00pm at Life Saving Victoria, 200 The Boulevard Port Melbourne. This professional development session will concentrate on group facilitation techniques being facilitated by experiential trainer and adventure specialist Mark Collard of playmeo.com.au Camp Briefing Session This session will provide a detailed overview of the camp program, clarify roles and agree on leadership approach for each camp. Those leaders attending the U15 Camp will be asked to stay back after the above Thursday, 28 January 2016 Camp Leader training session to have a briefing with others leader prior to camp. U13 briefing session will take place at a date to be advised. 2 Position Summary Position Title: Youth Camp Leader Position Category: Area Of Operation: Reporting / Responsible General Role Description: Volunteer appointed position Member & Leadership Development (M&LD) M&LD Executive - Camp Development Coordinator Manager - Member & Leadership Development Supervise, mentor and instruct participants in a range of Life Saving Victoria (LSV) youth leadership camps/programs, facilitating a friendly, safe and youthcentred environment and ensuring key messages are understood and delivered in an enthusiastic, professional and safe manner, representing Life Saving Victoria. To provide leadership, counsel and support to participants and Junior Camp Leaders. Key Responsibilities Program/Service Delivery Develop, implement and facilitate group activities as required that assist: (i) (ii) (iii) leadership and skill development; enhance participants lifesaving skills and knowledge; build team qualities and attributes Be proactive in identifying and addressing camper needs and managing individual and group behaviour. Communication Communicate courteously, professionally and regularly with participants and LSV staff/coordinators. Provide feedback on resources, content, equipment, opportunities to improve and any concerns on programs. Appropriate use of media, as per policies and procedures. Professional Development Administration Meetings Participate actively in all training programs as required. Be responsible for maintaining relevant qualifications as specified as prerequisites by LSV. Responsible for providing all relevant paperwork in a timely and accurate manner, within LSV s requirements. Assist with completing reports for the Camp Development Coordinator where required. Attend relevant meetings as required.

3 Key Responsibilities OH & S Ensure all leader to participant ratios are followed on programs as directed by the Camp Development Coordinator and/or LSV Staff. Ensure behaviour on programs is conducted in line with the risk assessment methodologies inclusive of occupational health and safety and emergency procedures. Report all incidents or potential hazards to the Camp Development Coordinator and/or relevant LSV staff member. Ensure the safety of both the team and community; Ensure the compliance of OHS guidelines and procedures, using protective clothing or equipment provided at all required times Identify hazards, monitor and assess risk, and immediately report any injury, near miss and damaged equipment or any other hazard observed in the workplace Demonstrates duty of care, consider own safety and the safety of others at all times. Monitor and promote the Member Protection, Equal Opportunity, Harassment and Bullying policy by treating fellow staff and others fairly and equitably and without discrimination, harassment or bullying.
