1 Class Scheduler and Course Section Finder The Class Scheduler allows students to create a list of potential class schedules. The Advanced Options mode allows you to customize your list of schedules by excluding days/times that you cannot attend classes and provides the ability to exclude specific sections from the schedule creation process, e.g. restricted classes. The Course Section Finder allows a student to find sections of an additional course that will fit into an existing schedule. The Class Scheduler and Course Section Finder can be accessed from the my.uic Web Portal and UIC Web for Student. Students should be directed to access theses tools from my.uic as this mode features deep linking to the Student Self Service main menu page. NOTE: Creating schedules with the Class Scheduler and Course Section Finder do not automatically register you for those courses. You must register for them by logging into the Student Self Service > Registration > Add/Drop Classes page and enter the applicable CRNs. 3 Select the Subject. Select the individual Course. Highlight the desired Course Click the Add Course button to add it to the shopping cart. Click the Add Course button 3

4 Add additional courses to the shopping cart and click the Build Schedules With Open Sections button to produce potential schedules of open sections only. You cannot filter days, times or individual sections using this mode. Click the Remove button to remove a course from the cart. Remove a course from the list by clicking the Remove button Click here to create schedules of open sections only The following error message will display if no schedule can be created. Click here to return to the main menu 43

5 Up to 1500 potential schedules are displayed and are listed along with a summary of the total number of open and closed sections. Click here to return to main menu Click buttons to see additional pages of schedules 5

6 Roll cursor over Seats Available for info on seat availability. Hold cursor here to display Seats Available explanation Seats Available Indicates space availability based on update of enrollment counts. Yes more than five seats available. 5 or less One to five seats available. No Zero seats available. Roll cursor over Section Restrictions for info regarding section restrictions. Hold cursor here to display Section Restrictions explanation "View" appears in this column if a section has specific restrictions (Honors College, etc) or requires special permission. Click on "View" to see the specific course/section information. Basic course restrictions, such as required majors or course pre-requisites are not indicated here. Click on View for Section Restriction message. Click here to view Section Restriction message 6

7 Select the appropriate schedule and click the Calendar View/Register for Schedule button. Click here to display Week at a Glance and login to Student Self Service Two windows will open Week at a Glance and Student Self Service Main Menu. Go to the Registration > Add/Drop Classes page to register. Go to the Registration > Add/Drop Classes page and register for your classes 7

8 View the Week at a Glance. Click the print button to print a copy of Week at a Glance. NOTE: you are not yet registered for these sections. You must enter the CRNs on the Registration > Add/Drop Classes page of Student Self Service. 9 Click Return to Main Menu to return to the shopping cart. Click buttons to see additional pages of schedules Click here to return to main menu Use the Advanced Options features to customize the schedule creation process exclude specific sections, days, times from schedules and include closed sections in schedules. Click here to include closed sections when creating schedules Click here for Advanced Options exclude specific sections, days or times from schedules 9

10 Review available sections for each course. Click the Review/Close button to view all sections to be included in the schedules Remove specific sections from schedule. Uncheck sections to exclude from the schedules 10

11 Additional Options check off times/days to exclude from the schedule creation process. Click on the checkbox to exclude the time period or day for the entire week. Click Submit to generate schedules Click here to open Day/Times Options Check any combination of days or times to exclude from your schedule. Be aware that you may not be able to create a schedule depending on the times you exclude. 11

12 The times/days excluded are summarized before the list of schedules. Click the +/ box to display or close the day/time summary. Click here to close/open times excluded 12

13 The following error message will display if you cannot create a schedule based on the times/days you excluded. 13

14 Course Section Finder fit an additional course into your schedule Click here to access the Course Section Finder Select a Term. Note You will need a list of the CRNs for which you are currently registered. See your class schedule on the My Classes under Academics in my.uic. 14

15 Select the number of CRNs for which you have already registered. Select number of CRNs currently registered Enter your CRNs, select the new course and click the Submit button. Enter registered CRNs Select new course and click Submit 15
