2 2 DENTAL ASSISTING PROGRAM ABOUT THE PROGRAM The Short Term Certificate in Dental Assisting offers students instruction in the basics of dental assisting. The program courses include fundamentals in chairside assisting, radiology, dental office management, oral structures and practical experience. Classes meet Monday through Thursday and offered via Distance Learning, and Blended Learning formats. The program is considered full time. Upon completion of the program, graduates have the option to sit for the Ohio Certification for Dental Assistants Examination. Graduates are also eligible to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Examination following the NELDA Certification Pathway I ( Successful completion of the DANB examination provides national certification as a dental assistant by conferring the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential to the candidate. Certification is NOT mandatory for employment as a dental assistant. However, most dentists prefer dental assistants to possess the Ohio Dental Assisting Radiographer Certificate.
