Data gain higher transparency and the degree of system integration increases. The solutions consist of harmonized hardware components, customized software modules and comprehensive consultation expertise for project execution. The demands and requirements for information in production, logistics, maintenance and service continue to rise as well as the needs for integrated processes and intelligent objects in factories. These requirements can be met with Auto-ID systems: objects are identified automatically and virtually carry the necessary information for further logistical processing and handling. The HARTING IT System Integration portfolio provides mobile and stationary readers with powerful antennas and various RFID transponders, including those suitable for use in harsh environments and on rough surfaces. These are developed, for example, especially for use on metal or in damp environments and can be supplied in chemical-resistant housings. HARTING Middleware operates according to the ALE EPCglobal standard and controls data processing, as well as reading and writing on RFID transponders. The events recorded are transferred from the reader to the Middleware, where they are collected and filtered and afterwards forwarded to the Business Application Framework. The Business Application Framework is used for graphic modeling and customizing of business processes. For further processing, the service calls included in the workflows are sent to the backend systems, such as ERP or MES via the integrated Enterprise Service Bus. Alternatively, these business processes can be mapped using the SAP components, SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure (SAP AII) and SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (SAP PI). Auto-ID offers considerable potential for companies of all sizes and from all industries. With the help of Auto-ID components, real objects are mapped to their virtual representation in IT systems. The physical and IT networking collaborates with intelligent objects to enable integrated automation processes. The use of the OPC-UA service-oriented architecture facilitates standardized field data collection and processing. The openness of OPC-UA enables bidirectional communication between automation units and the Suite. In an integrated Auto-ID process, this can be used to process data read from individual objects and sensors. In addition, HARTING smart Power Network Units can be used to access the energy values of machinery, collect the relevant data and then to control plants using, for example, capacity data. Via workflows, the information obtained is used to determine the optimum path for further processing in the production and logistics process. 4 HARTING success stories ekanban solution Whereas, in the past, paper cards were pinned to Kanban boards, information is displayed electronically today. Goods that are placed in storage and production orders are no longer booked manually, which is timeconsuming. Instead processing is paperless thanks to the Auto-ID solution. The previous different information sources for users have been replaced by a screen that clearly displays all the data regarding the current status of machinery and containers. Metal containers and machinery are fitted with RFID tags. The employee uses a handheld to log on to a machine and register a container for filling and further processing. Via the connection to an MES system, the production status is displayed directly on the ekanban board. Once production is complete, the goods are automatically booked into the warehouse. Consequently, production has access to complete and clearly presented information with reliable data. Access control Until now, any vehicles that entered the works premises were monitored, day and night, by an employee. Access rights were checked individually and arrivals registered. Today, company employees carry an RFID transponder card. When a vehicle moves over the induction loop embedded in the ground, the RFID reader is activated and automatically identifies the cardholder. After successful identification, access authorization for the respective checkpoint is checked and access granted. In addition, a traffic light notifies the driver whether the automatic authorization check is activated or whether the driver has to identify him/herself in person. This procedure is supported by Middleware and a RF-R500-p reader that directly control the opening and closing of the barrier via an electrical signal. HARTING Auto-ID System Integration
