Managed Satellite IP and TV Solutions
Managed broadband and broadcast solutions 1 Skylogic solves the last mile problem for thousands of businesses and public administrations worldwide, by offering universal broadband solutions based on its twoway satellite technology. Skylogic s main mission is to provide broadband Internet access to businesses, ISPs, and public institutions located beyond range of terrestrial broadband networks. Using new-generation satellite broadband technology, Skylogic is now equipped to deliver cost-effective broadband services to consumers located beyond terrestrial broadband infrastructure. Skylogic can also deliver a broad portfolio of ad hoc broadcast solutions from its SkyPark teleport located in Turin, Italy. Skylogic s headquarters are located in Turin. The company has commercial subsidiaries in Spain, Turkey and very soon in Greece to be closer to the Iberian, Turkish and Balkan markets. Other subsidiaries in Sardinia and Malta provide operational support for the Turin Teleport and commercialize satellite services on cruise ships and ferries. Skylogic itself is a subsidiary of Eutelsat, one of the world s leading satellite operators with capacity on 26 satellites covering Europe, the Mediterranean Basin, the Middle East, Africa, India and large parts of Asia and the Americas.
SkyPark 2 Skylogic Mediterraneo 3 SKYPARK KEY FIGURES: SKYLOGIC MEDITERRANEO SkyPark, Skylogic s teleport in Turin, is home to one of the leading satellite platforms for broadband and broadcast services. It is supported by a highly specialised team that controls the network, assigns bandwidth and ensures service quality, on a 24/7 basis. SkyPark connects Skylogic s satellite networks with fibres supplied by major operators and covering the world. An area of 10,000 m 2 15 antennas using satellite capacity on Eutelsat s fleet Full visibility of the geostationary orbital arc from 70 degrees East to 45 degrees West Redundantly connected to the terrestrial network via more than 70 POPs and Internet Exchanges An international staff of more than 40 professionals Skylogic Mediterraneo, Skylogic s brand new teleport, is located in Macchiareddu, the industrial estate of Cagliari, Sardinia. The new teleport provides broadcasting services including video contribution links, pay-tv platforms uplinking and playout services, as well as a network infrastructure for data transmission (Internet and Voice over IP) solutions. It also provide services for corporate networks and services at sea (Internet and GSM connectivity). Skylogic Mediterraneo operates a control and assistance centre for Tooway TM, the advanced consumer satellite broadband service using Ka-band frequencies. With the benefit of Eutelsat s significant in-orbit infrastructure, the teleport s reach extends across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. KEY FIGURES: 35,000 m 2 area: of which 12,000 for technologies and antenna facilities, over 1,000 for offices and 1,700 to host equipment 9 antennas use Eutelsat available satellite capacity in Ka, Ku, C and S bands
Broadband solutions 4 Broadcast solutions 5 Tooway the consumer broadband service Tooway is a bi-directional satellite solution bringing always-on high-speed Internet access to all Europe and Mediterranean Basin. The small, easy to set-up, outside satellite dish connects the pc or home network directly to the Internet via the satellite without the need for a telephone line. Today Tooway operates in Ku and Ka-band. Ka-band capacity is on Eutelsat s HOT BIRD 6 satellite at 13 East, and Ku-band capacity on EUROBIRD 3 satellite at 33 East. At the end of 2010, Eutelsat will launch a dedicated Ka-band satellite with multiple spotbeams across Europe, KA-SAT. KA-SAT is the first high throughput satellite designed specifically for Internet broadband delivery and exclusively using the Ka-band frequencies. KA-SAT will deliver a total throughput of over 70 Gigabits per second - the equivalent capacity of more than 35 current Ku-band satellites. KA-SAT will operate in conjunction with a network of eight hubs located throughout Europe and interconnected terrestrially via a European wide fibre optic ring to the Central Control Centre located in Torino. Access High speed Internet access with shared bandwidth usage 2-way modems which can be connected to a business LAN to serve a small terminal network. Different levels of subscription are available depending on capacity needs and number of PCs connected. Connect Fully-customised and dedicated bandwidth to serve corporate sites or create Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Satellite broadcasting capacity allows users to multicast content to several terminals simultaneously, thus radically reducing transmission costs. SCPC, Trunking and Meshed Skylogic provides a wide range of network solutions designed to meet the requirements of corporations and public administrations, including Single Channel Per Carrier transmissions (SCPC), trunking technology and solutions for meshed configurations. Transportable The small satellite terminal ensures rapid activation and guaranteed end-to-end service quality. This is the perfect solution for supplying communications and video surveillance in extreme and high-risk situations. In motion Skylogic technology provides on-board services for trains, planes and ships. Passengers can access , the Internet, Voice over IP (VOIP), Fax over IP (FOIP) and corporate intranets by connecting PCs through Wi-Fi hot spots. Distribution and Contribution (DVB-S, MPEG-2 and 4) Skylogic distributes both DVB-S and MPEG-2/4 signals for video contribution, Direct-to-Home (DTH) broadcasting and delivery to cable headends. Skylogic supports broadcasters with a team ensuring service quality 24/7 and delivering coverage for ground-breaking news or part time contribution links. HDTV Skylogic allows broadcasters to transmit HDTV signals which are one of the fastest growing video applications on the market. IPTV With satellite broadband, PC reception of television programmes is now a reality. In addition, Skylogic can download complete television programmes to PCs to create customised business TV an innovative solution targeted at business communications.
Some examples of Internet applications 6 Markets 7 Data exchange, VoIP, VPN, Wi-Fi Video Conferencing and Distance Learning Telemetry, Telemedicine, Video Surveillance Consumer Mobile services Public administration Skylogic supplies broadband connectivity to individual workstations or Wi-Fi networks, providing users with standard services such as Internet surfing, data exchange, VoIP and access to VPNs. Skylogic provides a satellite-based communications network on luxury cruise-ferries operated by Grandi Navi Veloci, a leading company in passenger and goods transport throughout the Mediterranean. The network extends broadband services and the GSM network to passengers and crews at sea. Passengers can access the Internet through a Wi-Fi network and VOIP from cabins and a public phone facility. Videoconferencing software allows users to converse wherever they are either in a «point-to-point» configuration or as a group videoconference that can also be used for distance training. WITAR, a voluntary organisation that supports technology education, activated a permanent satellite broadband network through the Eutelsat W3A satellite and SkyPark. The link connects a technical school in Ngozi (Burundi) and a technical school in Vicenza (Italy) for an innovative e-learning programme. TV applications for broadcasters and Business TV The integrated two-way satellite network supplied by Skylogic enables computer control systems to store statistical data, status and other relevant parameters from industrial facilities. Skylogic provided Elettromeccanica Adriatica with a satellite communications system monitoring 10 remote sites, which include hydroelectric stations and intake structures that carry water to the stations. Remote surveillance applications combined with a satellite network make it possible to oversee all remote sites simultaneously, irrespective of their location, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. During the XX Olympic Winter Games of Torino 2006, Skylogic deployed and operated a comprehensive TV network for the Olympic community with satellite delivery of 50 encrypted channels to more than 12,000 screens. In addition to this dedicated television network, Eutelsat and Skylogic provided broadcasters with services and facilities to deliver television coverage around the world. Tooway plays a significant role today in helping to bridge the broadband digital divide for up to 30m people in Europe and North Africa by offering a high-speed satellite internet service from just 1 a day. Speeds of up to 3.6Mbps are available immediately. Almost 70 times faster than traditional dial-up, Tooway is an always-on broadband service for consumers internet needs. Tooway also offers additional features such as multichannel television via the same dish, telephone calls via the Internet using VoIP. Tooway is available to everyone across Europe, with the same great quality. With the launch of KA-SAT, Tooway will be able to deliver an even faster service with up to 10 Mbps download and 4 Mbps upload speeds. Business Satellite services can meet multiple requirements from the business community including fast connectivity to remote offices and support for day-to-day communication activities such as broadband access, video/data exchange, video conferencing. Skylogic, in cooperation with Colt Telecom, has integrated sales control management to enable data transmission from Basic.net 35 retail outlets throughout Italy to sales management offices. This allows realtime monitoring of purchasing trends in all outlets as well as monitoring of warehouse movements. Satellite transmission also facilitates additional services, including video transmission in a television circuit for Basic.net outlets, multicasting, IP streaming of audio and video signals, advertising management and Internet kiosks. Skylogic supplies on-board Internet connectivity to a range of vehicles, including yachts, cruise ships, merchant and military vessels, trains and business jets. Passengers on aircraft, ships and trains can access services through their laptops via a Wi-Fi hot spot. Skylogic and ViaSat provide in-flight communications to business jets flying over Europe. The service has already been selected by ARINC, a world leader in aviation communications, which supplies passengers in over 40 business jets flying in European airspace with in-flight communications. Civil protection Skylogic terminals are highly flexible and easy to install. They provide the perfect solution for supplying communications and video surveillance in extreme and high-risk situations. Selected by the Regional Fire and Relief Services (SDIS) in the south of France, REDSAT is a turnkey service developed by Skylogic and Satxpro that enables a complete communications network to be deployed in 20 minutes for connections between regional firefighter central command and relief locations. With satellite technology, Public Administrations can extend broadband services to citizens and enterprises, independently of terrestrial infrastructure. Using a combination of satellite broadband and other technologies such as Wi-Fi, PLC, it is possible to obtain universal coverage for local distribution of high-speed Internet services as well as other innovative broadband services. Skylogic has been awarded contracts by the Regions of Tuscany and Piedmont (Italy) and the Diputacion Provincial de Zaragoza to bring full broadband amenities to 90 and 120 locations of Tuscany and Piedmont respectively, and to 110 communities in the region of Zaragoza.
