1 General Education Course Recommendations for Selected Kinesiology Careers Congratulations on your decision to follow the Kinesiology Pathway. Kinesiology is a dynamic field with many different career, university, and graduate school options. You may wish to refer to the Careers page on this site to obtain ideas about the many rewarding careers in the field of kinesiology. A Kinesiology Degree will need to include both General Education and major course requirements. Depending on your degree objective your General Education program will consist of courses from either Plan A, B, or C. The General Education Pattern designed for students planning to obtain an Associate Degree is called Plan A at LBCC. Remember that these general education requirements are only one component of the Associate Degree. You will need to fulfill all area and proficiency requirements in this plan to graduate. The General Education Pattern designed for students planning to transfer to the California State University (CSU) is called Plan B at LBCC. Courses on this pattern are lower-division general education breadth requirements specific to the California State University System (CSU GE-Breadth) and are used to obtain full or partial certification. Certification is the process whereby Long Beach City College approves lower-division general education course work for CSU transfer. Only courses taken from approved lists are eligible for certification for CSU GE-Breadth. Certification requirements include a minimum of 12 General Education Units that must be completed in residence at LBCC in order to qualify for this certification. Students planning to transfer to the University of California or a private college/university should refer to the IGETC General Education Pattern (identified as Plan C at LBCC). Here you will find a set of recommended General Education class options that the department deems appropriate for a kinesiology major s selected educational and career goals. These classes are for LBCC Plan A (Associates Degree) and Plan B (CSU GE-Breadth) only, and are not necessarily suitable for Plan C (IGETC). In other words, these classes will assist you in your Associates Degree and/or California State University Transfer Plan. These identified classes only fulfill some of the requirements for your chosen Associates Degree and/or Transfer Plan. Additionally, please note that some of these classes may require a prerequisite before you can enroll in them. Make sure to use this information in consultation with your academic counselor/department advisor while you are planning how you will meet your goals. Remember, the classes identified on this list are only recommendations. If a counselor/advisor doesn t suggest a certain class from a particular area in Plan A or Plan B, then you may want to choose from the classes listed here. However, if you are specifically advised to take certain classes other than these, please enroll in the specific classes that you are advised to complete by your counselor/advisor. April
