2 PREPARING FOR YOUR PERFORMANE OF A LIFETIME This packet has been designed to assist you with your trip and performance preparation. Please read this information thoroughly and share it with your group. Disney Performance Standards A great show is the most important objective for your performers and their Disney audiences. Please use this information in preparing for your performance. All participants are expected to adhere to the Walt Disney World Performance Standards to ensure a safe and successful show experience. A Show ontent Our Disney audiences expect your very best performance. Your performance should be consistent with the style and quality reflected in your audition. All music, lyrics, and show content must be suitable for a family environment. No identifiable character artwork or any other copyrighted or trademarked material may be used on props, banners, instruments, or costumes. ostuming and Appearance ostumes or uniforms are required for all performers, directors, and assistants appearing with the group. Mascots or identifiable characters are not allowed. All costumes and uniforms must be well maintained. Shoes, socks, jewelry, and accessories should be uniform in style and color. Jeans, T-shirts, tank tops, shorts, and athletic attire must be pre-approved by the Disney Magic Music Days office. hewing gum, food, and drinks are not allowed during your performance. If you have any questions about your group s costumes or uniforms, please contact a Disney Magic Music Days Guest Talent oordinator prior to your departure at option 4. Disney Magic Music Days reserves the right to determine costuming and appearance compliance. General Information All shows must be thoroughly rehearsed prior to your arrival. Rehearsal facilities are not available. All performances must begin and end on time (20 25 minutes maximum depending on location). Showtime should account for all music, transitions between songs and time for applause. Friends and family members may not enter any Pre-Show or backstage areas. ostumed performers may not enter guest areas before, during, or after their performance. The distribution or sale of printed material or merchandise is not permitted. Photography and video taping in backstage and Pre-Show areas is strictly prohibited. Performances may be re-scheduled if possible, or cancelled due to inclement weather or other scheduled events. Performance dates, times, and locations are subject to change.
3 SHOW PREPARATION A onfirmation Approximately two (2) weeks prior to your performance date, a Disney Magic Music Days representative and/or a Technical oordinator will contact you regarding: The final number of performers, directors, and designated chaperones in your group, The technical requirements for your performance (stage performances only), The number and type(s) of busses transporting your group to the Pre-Show area, performance venue, and/or Disney Performing Arts Workshop location. Your event details, arrival times, and locations. D E Show Transportation is your Responsibility You must arrange your own bus transportation to our behind-the-scenes Pre-Show area and then to your specific performance venue. The Walt Disney World Transportation System and local hotels DO NOT provide transportation to the Pre-Show area or between the Pre-Show area and performance venues. Personal vehicles are no longer permitted in the Pre-Show area. Please arrive in as few buses as possible. Your buses will be the only locked storage available to you during your performance and must remain until the completion of your performance. Arriving at your Pre-Show Area A Guest Talent oordinator will greet your group at the location agreed upon during your confirmation call. All members of the group must arrive together. Included in these materials is a map to your designated Pre-Show area. haperones & Non-Performing Guests Only designated chaperones with specific duties necessary to your show are permitted in the Pre-Show area. Your Guest Talent oordinator may request their assistance in the production of your event. haperones must be at least 18 years of age. All other non-performing guests/parents should be dropped off at the Main Entrance of the Theme Park or at the Downtown Disney Marketplace performance venue prior to your group reporting to the Pre-Show area. Photography and video taping is not permitted backstage. No children under 12 are allowed backstage. Following your Performance If your group is planning to visit any of the Theme Parks after their performance, all performers must first change out of their costumes following their performance. hanging is not permitted in Park restrooms. After everyone in your group has changed out of their costumes and all of your equipment has been loaded, you must move all buses from the Pre-Show area. At this time your group may depart, or return to the Theme Park and exit through the Main Entrance turnstiles to your buses.
4 STAGE PERFORMANE GUIDELINES A General Information Please plan a maximum 25-minute performance including time for announcements, transitions, and applause. Set-up and strike time is very limited. Please avoid programming selections with extensive technical, prop, or costume requirements. The stages do not have curtains. Please prepare an organized entrance to, and exit from, the stage. Most stages do not have wings, so performers must always remain in character and focused on the show, since they will be in constant view of the audience. If the stage has wings, costumed performers must remain backstage when not performing. ayonets, sabers, knives, fire batons, confetti, fog, or pyrotechnics are not permitted under any circumstances. PROPS: All props must be pre-approved by Disney Magic Music Days or they may not be used. ackdrops or set pieces are not permitted at any stage. DANERS: The types of stage floor surfaces vary. Unitards or body suits are required for groups making any costume changes since some venues do not have a protected changing facility. Performers must wear full soled shoes at all times. Dance paws, lyrical sandals, foot thongs, and other shoes of this type are not permitted. After your performance, your group must make an immediate, formal, and organized exit from the venue. Performers may not stop to visit with audience members. Please note that you will have to carry all performance equipment that is not provided by Disney Magic Music Days from the pre-show location to your venue through a guest area. Indoor, or covered rehearsal space is not available for your group. The group will have an opportunity to warm-up, but it will be outside near your parked bus transportation. Technical Support Please check your Stage Plot for a list of equipment that may be available for your performance. Only Walt Disney Entertainment technicians operate the sound system. Someone from your group may sit in the booth to assist with your show. The final placement, number of, and type of microphones used will be at the sole discretion of Walt Disney Entertainment. The Walt Disney ompany will provide all sound equipment. Accompaniment Track Preparation If you are planning to use recorded musical accompaniment, please follow these guidelines to ensure the highest quality recording: Work with an experienced audio technician Use D format only and label each with group name and selection title If music includes instrumental and vocal lines, record them on separate tracks (i.e., instrumental = right channel, vocal = left channel) ombine all music on one D; if this is not possible, have each D clearly labeled Review your final recording prior to your trip ring a back-up copy of your recording All music and lyrics must be suitable for a family audience Disney Magic Music Days reserves the right to adjust or eliminate performance music based on these criteria.
5 DISNEY PERFORMING ARTS WORKSHOPS An outstanding ackstage Learning Opportunity available only to Disney Magic Music Days performers. Disney Magic Music Days offers nine exciting and fun workshops taught by Disney Entertainment Professionals. Each workshop is specially created to teach performance fundamentals with a twist of Disney time-honored show business magic. The workshops noted by an asterisk (*) have been recognized by MEN: The National Association for Music Education for meeting specific content standards as established in the National Standards for Arts Education. For registration information call A D E F G H I You re Instrumental* You re Instrumental immerses your students into the world of the professional musician. In moments, your students will sight read and prepare a polished performance of special Disney musical selections in a studio recording environment. A professional Disney clinician will examine the skills, attitudes and priorities that are essential to musical excellence. This workshop culminates with a special recording of your ensemble performing music along with a portion of a Disney Animated Feature Film. For middle/junior high and high school concert bands and orchestras. You re Instumental - Young Performer Edition* Designed for band and orchestra students with 1 to 2 years playing experience, this 90 minute workshop uses Disney music to explore the fundamentals of performing. Your professional Disney clinician will delve into several musical concepts to reinforce your teaching. Finally, your group puts all of these elements together as they perform a short musical segment along with a portion of a Disney Animated Feature Film. For elementary and middle/junior high school bands and orchestras. Jazz It Up Give your jazz ensemble the experience of performing various styles of the jazz idiom - Swing, Rock, and Latin while focusing on the importance of the rhythm section and the essential tools for better improvisation. For middle/junior high and high school jazz ensembles. Disney s Show hoir Magic* This workshop teaches the fundamentals of vocal technique, combined with the basics of stage movement to enhance your group s individual and ensemble performance level. Performers 11 and up. Disney Sings* Disney Sings immerses your group into the world of the professional vocalist. Students will learn audition skills, warm up and voice-over techniques as they experience a fast paced recording environment. Students will examine the skills, attitudes and high expectations required for performance excellence. Your students will record an excerpt from a Disney animated feature film s soundtrack led by a professional Disney vocalist. Your students will experience the demands and exhilaration of live performance as they quickly prepare music and choreography for a simulated Disney show. For middle/ junior high and high school choirs. Disney Sings- Young Performer Edition Designed for singers age 6-11, this 90 minute version of the Disney Sings workshop introduces your group to elements of professional vocal performance. Your students will record an excerpt from a Disney animated film s soundtrack led by a professional Disney vocalist. They will also experience the demands and exhilaration of live performance as they quickly prepare music and choreography for a simulated Disney show. For elementary and middle/junior high school choirs. Disney Dancin Allows your students to experience the life of a professional Disney dancer in a fun and upbeat atmosphere. They will participate in a simulated Disney audition and a professional rehearsal, followed by: Places Please a once-in-a-lifetime backstage performance of a production number from a Disney show. roaden your dancer s knowledge by focusing on audition skills, professionalism, on-stage presence, facial expression, and the polish needed to be successful. This workshop includes the rehearsal of a Disney production number. For intermediate-level dance studios and drill teams (ages 11 and older). Disney Dancin - Young Performer Edition Designed for dancers age 6-11, this 90 minute workshop starts with students examining memorable Disney dancing on film before moving into a quick warm up utilizing current skills. Now it s time to learn how the magic is created as your clinician leads the group through a simulated rehearsal of a Disney show. The workshop culminates in a very special mock performance incorporating all the necessary elements of creating a Disney Magical Moment! For beginner-level dance studios and drill teams (ages 6-10). Disney s Auxiliration Gives your auxiliary/color guard the unique opportunity to rehearse and perform a simulated Disney special event production. Following a high-energy warm-up, your students will learn valuable flag and movement basics. Next, they will be led through a fun-filled and magical routine with exciting choreography on tall flag and swing flag, complete with show props. When your Disney Show Producer gets a call for a last minute special event, your students are put through an audition and cast into roles for the show. After a simulated Disney rehearsal, the clinic culminates in an exhilarating simulated performance incorporating all of the equipment and prop routines the students have learned. For auxiliary units, pom squads, and color guards (ages 11 and older).
6 Additional Information Workshops are a great way to maximize your Disney educational experience. Due to space limitations, only Directors and necessary chaperones will be allowed into the workshop session. Your workshop may be scheduled at any time. Once your workshop is confirmed, do not plan travel or activities during this time. The music for the instrumental workshops is scored for standard concert band or standard orchestra instrumentation. Students playing instruments not included in the score may participate by reading any existing music. Photography, video and audio taping of the workshop(s) is not permitted. Some workshops contain elements that will be recorded by the facilitator. These recordings are used for documentation purposes and will not be available to your group.
7 IMPORTANT: REQUIRED FORMS 1 Event Itinerary Page Your Event Itinerary Sheet provides you with the date(s) and location(s) of your Disney Magic Music Days event(s). Please review the information carefully and share it with all of your performers, staff, chaperones, and your travel planner, if applicable. Your performance time will not be set until approximately four weeks prior to your performance date. Your performance could be scheduled at any time during the operating hours of your designated venue. 2 Performance Package Order Forms Your Disney Magic Music Days Magic Your Way Package Ticket Order and Group Dining Forms can be found online at Please complete this order online or by downloading the form at least six (6) weeks prior to your arrival. Date I purchased my Performance package tickets: 3 Stage Plots for Stage Performances The Stage Plot lists the specific dimensions of your venue. It is very important that you keep these limitations (i.e., stage size) in mind when planning your choreography or stage set-up. Please complete and fax the Stage Plot to at least six (6) weeks prior to your arrival. 8 MOUSE ELLANEOUS A Transportation To and From The Walt Disney World Theme Parks on Non-Performance Days If your group is staying in a Walt Disney World Resort, you may use the Walt Disney World Transportation System for transportation to the Theme Parks and to Downtown Disney. This service runs from early in the morning until late at night and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please allow ample time when traveling. Due to limited capacity on the buses, large groups must arrange their own transportation in order to move the entire group at one time. If your group is NOT staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, you should check with the hotel where you are staying or with your travel planner, if applicable, to ensure you have pre-arranged transportation. Preparing for the Florida Weather WEAR SUNSREEN! A high SPF is strongly recommended. We suggest planning a visit to the beach, pool, or water park, after your performance to avoid any potential discomfort during your performance. DRINK LOTS OF WATER before and after your performance. Avoid caffeinated beverages and sugary drinks. Please check the weather forecast before you leave for the Walt Disney World Resort. The weather can be very unpredictable, especially in the winter. First Aid Each morning, have a chaperone register your group in person at First Aid in the Theme Park(s) your group is visiting that day. Please have a chaperone call our automated number ( ) at least once an hour. If a minor has checked in, the message will state that an adult from your group must proceed immediately to the indicated First Aid station.
