1 Mobile Applications CAPABILITY STATEMENT There are many challenges facing software development wishing to target mobile device users encompassing multiple operating systems and platforms such as BlackBerry, iphone/ipad, Windows Mobile, Android, and Palm. There is also the difficulty of developing compelling applications on tiny screens with varied input options (touch screen/qwerty Keyboard, low battery life, limited processor power and memory. It is critical to develop an application that blends the right criteria for success. is well versed in the mobile device space and brings to the table years of expertise and success stories enabling our clients to take full advantage of mobile devices to generate additional revenues and offer additional services to their clientele. A successful mobility project requires more than just applications. The strategy includes a complete mobility solution, mobile device management, project administration, GPS Tracking and integration. This document covers our Methodology for End to End solutions specific to Mobile Applications and devices. It explains in simple terms and diagrams the key elements that must be researched, questions answered, and approach to deliver the most robust Mobile Device application possible. Figure 1 shows how we implement the most popular design approach covering mobile device interaction. Figure 2 is the methodology that is followed to produce the best end result, application, and characteristics specific to the mobile device brand and Operating System(OS). The first two and most important questions that must answer before proceeding with a mobile application solution are: 1. What Device(s) (Manufacture/Model) will be used? Example: Tablet/iPad/Smart Phone 2. What OS(s) will be required for development? Example: ios/android/microsoft Mobile/Black Barry) Only after these two questions are answered can a timeline and associated cost(s) estimate be derived. Keep in mind that for every operating system and device iteration selected there will be a specific and detailed coding requirement to accomplish each and dollar amount(s) assigned to each. 3 1 Project Planning (Mobile Devices) Each OS and Device will have a certain dollar amount associated with it and timeline(s) to successfully design, code, implement, and test. Detailed planning for each iteration of the application(s) capabilities must be generated for each of the platforms chosen. Project plans to execute mobile devices (phones, pads, tablets) typically include the follow leading edge OS s: 1. iphone ios 2. Windows Mobile 3. Android 4. Black Berry 2 Requirements Check List Necessary Attainable Measurable and testable Allocatable Complete Consistent Does not prematurely determine solution Traceable SMART This requirement is essential to meet business goals and objectives. If the project can meet needs without it, or the requirement is not necessary. The requirement must be traceable to a goal stated in the project charter, vision document, or other initiating document. This requirement must be technically and operationally feasible and fall within the funding and timing constraints of the project. Note, that even though a requirement may be technically feasible, if it does not fall within constraints, it is not attainable. Testable requirements are designed to demonstrate the product satisfies requirements. Tests may include functional, performance, regression and stress tests. If the requirement is impossible to test or measure, it should be removed or revised. This requirement can be allocated to an element of the project design where it can be implemented. This requirement is documented and all conditions under which the requirement applies are clearly stated. The requirement must also contain all the necessary information to assist the technical team in designing, building and testing that component of the product. This requirement can be met without causing conflict with any other requirement. This requirement allows the widest possible selection of implementation options. The source of the requirement is known and can be referenced or located when needed. It should be traceable backwards to specific customers, user or stakeholder input, a use case, a business rule. It should also be traceable forward and have a unique identifier that assists in identifying, maintaining change history. Specific, measurable, achievable, results-oriented, and time bound. 4 3 Needs Assessment (Mobile) This phase will produce scenarios on how the application will be used in real life. It is not as involved to produce an application for a static device; however in the mobile world the follow questions must be answered. 1. Which user features, functions will be developed for which segment? 2. Which services will be integrated to the application? 3. How will the segmented users use the application in real time? 4. What are the usability scenarios for the application? (Walking, in the car, busy environment, working environment, etc.) 5. Define Offline/Online information 6. Which platforms will be supported as previously mentioned? 7. Decide application distribution method 8. Decide what device specific features are going to be used (SSL, Accelerator, etc.) 9. Decide which resolutions are going to be supported 4 Storyboarding (Mobile) This step determines the interface and other structural characteristics and the workflow of the application. The following questions must be answered: 1. What does the flowchart of the application look like? 2. What kind of information will be included and on which page? 3. Which model will be used for content presentation? 4. In which page will content buttons be used? 5. Will data will be configured as dynamic or static? 6. Structure of the pages in the application? 7. Navigation of the buttons and pages? 8. Flow of the pages in application scope? 9. User Experiences on different platforms as previously mentioned? 5 Server / Client UML Flow (Mobile) The operations on data resources and their usage must have the follow questions answered: 1. Define the resources that will provide the dynamic data. 2. Signature of services such as web service, rss, json that will be used in the application. 3. Decide error code messages (Network based error codes etc.) 6 Design (Mobile) Visual design of the application interface must have the following questions answered: 1. How the segments will be designed? 2. What are the visual and audio media that will be used in the application? 3. What type of mobile device will be used for this application as previously mentioned? 4. Different user experiences for different platforms should be considered. 5. Design of the objects under the criteria s of Touch screen vs. keyboard use 6. Two designs may be required if the application must support both touch screen and keyboard input. 7. 5 7 Offline / Online Development (Mobile) Flow phase from offline application to online version by integrating the dynamic data. The following must be considered: 1. What are the success criteria for application performance? 2. Which delivery method will be used for the application? (Wap-push, SMS, download, etc.) 3. Design of the objects under the criteria s of touch screen and keyboard input. 4. Multi resolution support 8 Test (Mobile) For proper testing of the developed application the following must answered: 1. What will the Test Cases look like? 2. Does the application fulfill the established performance requirements? 3. Which problems have occurred during the test? 4. Which problems can occur during application deliver? 5. What will be the backward compatibility test? 6. What will the criteria for testing: online tools or with real devices? 9 Signing Process (Mobile) Process of encoding a digital certificate into the application 1. Does the application meet the certain criteria such as functionality, visually and/or usability? 2. In which mobile platform, the signing process will be operated? 3. Do any changes in the functionality, visual, or usability in the application after the signing process? 10 Application Distribution (Mobile) Application deliver to the segmented users must have these questions met: 1. How will the application be delivered? (WAP Push, SMS Pull, wap download, etc.)? 2. How to avoid the difficulties during eh application deliver? 3. How to get reports when distributing he application over alternative channels 4. Determine distribution channels and processes about getting the application to subscriber s? 11 Regular Updates (Mobile) The organizational structure required to do the periodic content updates of the application must have the following answered: 1.
