9 1.1 SIZE AND GRAMMAGE OF THE SUPPORTED BARCODE DOCUMENTS The accepted boarding pass media sizes are as follows: ATB1 or ATB2 paper, weighing either gsm, - or thin paper weighing 80 gsm, or even 60 gsm. ATB1 or ATB2 wallet type boarding passes with fold-back pocket. A4 (21 cm by 29.7 cm) size paper weighing 80 gsm. IMPORTANT : Thin paper: - When using thin paper boarding passes, the print on the reverse side of the pass can interfere with the scanning process, even more so if the reader is located in a brightly lit area (translucency effect). - Therefore, IER recommends the use of documents that are blank on the reverse side or having a blank area on the back side of the area dedicated to the barcode Reading On-Screen Barcodes The barcode media can also be the screen of a mobile phone, a PDA or any other portable multi-media appliance equipped with a screen (see page 4). 10 1.2 ACCEPTED BARCODE FORMATS Barcode Types that Can be Used with the Reader 1D Barcode: Code 128 Code 39 Interleaved 2 of 5 2D Barcode: Aztec Datamatrix PDF 417 QR Code Figure 1.1 Sample barcodes supported by the reader IMPORTANT : The barcodes must not exceed the following dimensions: 80 x 52mm (3.15in by 2.05in). Note: The barcode reader module accepts certain barcodes of the formats listed, depending on the software configuration required by your application. To enhance the capabilities of your reader, contact IER Reading On-Screen Barcodes The reader will recognize 2D barcodes displayed on the screens of mobile phones, PDAs etc. IMPORTANT : For on-screen barcodes, IER recommends the following 2D barcode formats: Aztec Datamatrix QR Code Page 4

13 2.1 ACCESSING THE READER CONFIGURATION INTERFACE Preliminary Steps: - Reader configuration is carried out using any recent internet browser. - Beforehand, connect the reader to the Ethernet port of a computer using a crossover cable. - Deactivate the automatic network addressing function of the computer. - To be able to connect yourself to the reader, it is necessary to assign a static IP address to the computer. See a summary of the procedure below Change the IP Address of the Computer The default IP address of the reader is: with subnetwork mask: Access the Local Area Connection Properties window on your computer: a) Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), b) Select Properties. In the Internet Protocol Properties (TCP/IP) window: a) Select the Use following IP address option b) Type the IP address (e.g ) and supply the subnetwork mask ( ) Note: The specified IP address must belong to the same segment as the one of the reader. c) Select OK Connect Yourself to the Reader a) Power up the reader and wait for the initialization sequence to be completed. b) Type the IP address of the reader into the address field of your internet browser and confirm. This causes the user identification page to be displayed. Page 7
14 Note: If this is not a valid address, it is due to one of the following reasons: - Your reader has a specific address required by your application. In this case, contact the department concerned of your company or your IER representative to obtain the specific address. - The address of the reader has been changed for an unknown reason. In this case, send the IP command over the RS232 link to the reader in order to obtain the new fixed IP address. Figure 2.1 Identification Page Identify Yourself Figure 2.2 User Identification Window Page 8
15 The configuration interface is customized for the user ID of the user connecting to the reader. There are three access levels corresponding to specific access rights: Level 1: read rights only for standard reader parameters. Level 2: read rights for standard reader parameters and configuration of data connection (IP, USB, RS232) characteristics. Level 3: read and modification rights for all reader parameters. Figure 2.3 Complete configuration interface (Level 3) Icons Found Throughout the Configuration Pages Log out from the configuration interface. If you exit the application you will have to identify yourself again to be able to access the home page. Go back to the Home page. You do not have to identify yourself again. Apply all modifications. Clicking this icon means that all modifications made will be confirmed. Upload configuration files. Clicking this icon transfers the configuration files to the server and saves them. Reset maintenance counters. Reset general counters. Page 9

32 2.13 CONFIGURATION AND ADJUSTMENT INTERFACE General Description The main purpose of the configuration and adjustment interface is to allow the user to display the events occurring on the reader, to filter them and to be able to isolate the "regions" of specific events. This functionality is mainly used by programming specialists but may also help a trained user to diagnose the causes of dysfunctions that may occur on the reader. From this interface, the user can also access the configuration menus for the reader functions and the RS232 serial port. These menus are identical to those present on the reader configuration interface home page Access to the Events (Log) File a) On the home page, select Configuration & adjustments icon. the Displaying the Events Having Occurred on the Reader a) In the interface table, select the Display traces link. b) The events resulting from execution of the operating system, communications exchanges and activation of reader functions are displayed on the screen. This function can display a maximum of 2000 lines Filtering the Events a) In the interface table, select the Syst trace configuration link. b) On the next page, select the Syst trace link. c) The displayed table shows the possible options for filtering the events. After selecting one of these options, modifying its parameters allows for a more precise display of the events or specific "regions" of events. - Opposite, there is an example of changing the parameter to permit displaying of events occurring in a specific region of the events.
