2 NOMINATIONS FOR ELECTION OF BENCHER FOR WHICH A POLL IS REQUIRED New Lawyer Bencher Electoral Division BERRA, Loreley - Loreley graduated with an LLB (Honours) from the University of Canberra (Australia) in 2002 after completing her third year of law at the University of Saskatchewan. She articled and practiced at Balfour Moss for almost 3 years before moving to the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General to be a Crown Prosecutor. Loreley has been an active member of the Canadian Bar Association with a particular focus on young lawyer issues. She was the chair of the CBA Young Lawyers South section from before becoming the Prairie Provinces representative on the National CBA Young Lawyers executive. She is also the current chair of the Criminal Justice Section as well as being a member of the Regina Bar Association. In 2008 Loreley traveled to Nepal to lecture at a CLE for young lawyers on Engaging Civil Society in Democratic Development and continues to be a panel member of the Canadian Rapid Response Team. Loreley has been an active PLEA volunteer over the past several years as well as a volunteer for various community events and activities including; a coach for high school criminal law moot teams and a member of the YWCA Women of Distinction Awards nomination committee. She has also been a director on the Regina Soccer Association Board and the University of Regina Rams Football Club Board for several years before taking a step back to welcome a new addition to her family this past year. Reasons for seeking office: Loreley has let her name stand in this election as she believes young lawyers should get involved in their profession. She has actively advocated on young lawyer issues for several years and believes it is time to bring those issues to the Law Society. She believes it is important that the young lawyer voice be present in the regulation and development of our profession.

3 CANN, Nicholas I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and obtained my Bachelor of Arts (History) in 2000 from the University of British Columbia. I attended the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan, meeting my future wife and obtaining my Bachelor of Laws with Distinction. After graduating in 2004, I moved to Regina and articled with McKercher McKercher & Whitmore. I am currently an associate with McKercher LLP, specializing in insurance defence litigation. I volunteer with the Regina Free Legal Clinic and have done so since it opened in I am involved with the Regina Bar Association, having served as a Director and Vice-President, as well as President from I am a member of the CBA and am on the 2010 Mid-Winter Meeting Planning Committee. Reasons for seeking office: I see the new Bencher position as the opportunity to add the perspective of young lawyers to the continuing regulation of our profession and I believe that I would be able to do so in a manner that would benefit all members of the Bar in our Province. 4 DOUCETTE, Amanda Amanda Doucette was raised in Saskatchewan and attended Bishop James Mahoney High School in Saskatoon. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan in 2004, graduating with Great Distinction. Amanda entered the University of Saskatchewan, College of Law in 2004, having been awarded the William Elliot Scholarship. During her time at the College of Law, Amanda served as an Editor of the Saskatchewan Law Review in , and as Managing Editor in She was also a part of the College of Law Pro Bono Students Society, the College of Law Grading Analysis Committee, and a Student Representative on the College of Law Studies Committee. Amanda graduated with Great Distinction in 2007, and was awarded the Law Society of Saskatchewan Silver Medal, the Ron Fritz Prize in Law, and the Donald Alexander McNiven Prize. Amanda completed her articles as a law clerk to Chief Justice Klebuc, Justice Vancise, and Justice Lane of the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, and spent some time working at the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board. She was admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar in May Amanda is currently an associate with Stevenson Hood Thornton Beaubier LLP in Saskatoon, where she maintains a general practice with an emphasis on tax litigation and estate planning. Amanda has written several articles for Bar Notes, and recently co-authored, Resignation, Removal and Replacement of Executors and Trustees a Saskatchewan Perspective, which was published in the July 2009 issue of the Estates Trusts & Pensions Journal. Amanda has been a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyer s Association since her time as a law student. She is also a member of the Public Legal Education Association and volunteers as a mentor for the Canadian Bar Association student mentorship program. Outside of the legal community, Amanda has been an active member of the University of Saskatchewan Ballroom Dancing Club for last eight years, and enjoys cooking and cake decorating. Reasons for seeking office: I am so excited that the Law Society has opened up this opportunity to new lawyers in Saskatchewan! I chose to build a legal career in the Province of Saskatchewan in order to be close to family, friends and community ties I have established over the past 24 years. I would like to have the chance to give back to a community that has provided me with so many resources and opportunities. Benchers have a unique role to play in the community as a liaison between the public and members of the Bar. I am proud to be a lawyer in Saskatchewan and believe that our Law Society should continue to set high standards for conduct and practice in this Province. In particular, I would like to have the opportunity to become involved in assisting with the implementation and maintenance of the Continuing Professional Development Policy.

5 HILL, Kevin - I was born in 1967 and raised in Saskatoon and have continued to live here throughout my life. I received all my education in Saskatoon including my Undergrad degree and Law Degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1995 and 1998 respectively. I have been actively involved in family businesses all through this time period holding many different roles and titles. I articled with McDougall Ready and Merchant Law and was called to the bar July I joined my current firm, Cuelenaere Kendall Katzman and Watson in I mainly practice criminal defence with extensive experience in the area of youth criminal justice. I also have an active real estate and civil practice. I have written and presented a number of articles to members of the public and the Saskatoon Bar and SKLESI and am the Legal Aid liaison for the Saskatchewan Bar Association to the national committee of the Canadian Bar Association and a member of the Saskatoon Criminal Defence Lawyers Association. In addition to being a member of the Saskatchewan Bar, I am also an active member of the Alberta, North West Territory and British Columbia Bars. I am married with a young daughter and a grown daughter pursuing her chartered accounting designation. I am also step father and step grandfather to my two step daughters and their daughters. My wife is a Youth Worker the Department of Corrections Public Safety and Policing. Reasons for seeking office: I am interested in providing a perspective and participating in the self regulatory aspect of the profession. A perspective that has its formative roots in 21 st century practice in an urban setting with an individual oriented client base.

6 Johnson, Eric Eric Johnson was born and raised in Regina where he attended Campbell Collegiate High School and graduated with an International Baccalaureate Diploma. He obtained his Bachelor of Administration with Distinction, majoring in Finance, from the University of Regina in After a semester of study at Charles Stuart University in Australia, he studied law at the University of Saskatchewan, graduating in Eric articled with Balfour Moss LLP where he now practices, having been admitted to the Bar in Eric would describe his general practice as a veritable smorgasbord, but with some emphasis on litigation. He practices in both English and French. Over the past year, Eric has been a district governor for the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association. He volunteers for Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan, has presented to the Public Legal Education Association, and has lectured at the University of Regina. In law school Eric volunteered on the Building of our Future Committee, which oversaw the construction of the new College of Law building, and also volunteered for Campus Legal Services. In 2002 Eric was a member of the three-person team that finished 3 rd in Canada and 9 th in North America in the e-strat Business Competition which featured over 150 teams in North America and thousands of participants world-wide. In 2003 Eric s team placed 1 st in an international marketing competition which involved teams from across North America and Europe. During the academic year, Eric served as President of the Administration Students Society at the University of Regina. Reasons for seeking office: I applaud two recent Law Society decisions. These are the commencement of mandatory legal education and the implementation of the New Lawyer Bencher position. On behalf of all new lawyers, I seek office to take part in the realization of these two initiatives and to see that their aims are furthered with a perspective from the younger demographic. In my opinion, the public s perception of the legal profession is of paramount importance. I therefore believe that the Law Society s role as regulator of the profession must maintain the public s confidence in the profession and in the administration of justice. To this end, I think mandatory legal education will help ensure all lawyers are equipped with best practices as the profession evolves. Much literature has already been published on the shifting demographics within workplaces generally, and more specifically, in the legal realm. From a professional governance standpoint, I feel very strongly that a perspective from a junior member of the Bar will help us strengthen our profession into the future. It would be a privilege to serve in this capacity.

7 Seiferling, Steven - Steve was born and raised in Saskatoon. He completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts (English) in 2001 at the University of Saskatchewan, and went on to complete an LL.B. at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in Steve also completed an Intellectual Property Law and Emerging Technology course at Oxford University in Following his convocation from the College of Law, Steve moved to Ottawa to commence a clerkship at the Federal Court. In the course of his work at the Federal Court, Steve was exposed to a number of legal areas, including Intellectual Property, Immigration, Labour and Employment, Privacy, and Administrative Law. The Federal Court also allowed Steve to learn about the governance of the legal profession, from a top-down perspective, learning from the Justices of the Federal Court. Following his clerkship, Steve completed a Master of Laws at the University of Ottawa, with a concentration in Law and Technology. Steve also worked as a consultant for the Chief Umpire of Employment Insurance Canada while he was completing his Master of Laws program. After receiving his LL.M., Steve spent two years working in the Intellectual Property department of a national law firm, appearing before the Federal Court, the Copyright Board of Canada, and the Federal Court of Appeal. Steve enjoyed his time in Ottawa, but has always been a Saskatchewanian (and a Rider fan) at heart. In 2008, Steve returned to Saskatchewan, and accepted a position with McDougall Gauley LLP in Saskatoon. He currently practices in the areas of Intellectual Property Law, Privacy Law, Labour and Employment and Technology Law. Steve has appeared before the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board, the Saskatchewan Provincial Court, and the Saskatchewan Court of Queen s Bench, since his return to Saskatchewan. Steve is a registered Trade-mark Agent, and is the present Chair of two Canadian Bar Association sections in Saskatoon. He is also on the CBA National Executive Committees for Intellectual Property Law and Privacy and Access to Information Law, and is helping to organize a Privacy and Access to Information conference for Steve is also an active member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, and regularly speaks, writes, and consults on Intellectual Property, Technology, and Privacy issues in Canada. Steve has also recently worked with a number of organizations on submissions with respect to the consultation process being undertaken by the federal government with respect to Canada s Copyright Act. Steve was also a presenter at the 2009 Canadian Bar Association (Saskatchewan) Mid-Winter Meeting, presenting on the basics of Intellectual Property Law for lawyers. Steve is very happy to be back in Saskatchewan, and believes that he would be a good representative of the Saskatchewan Bar to fill the New Lawyer Bencher position. He believes he would be a good representative of Saskatchewan s New Lawyer Benchers to put forward their perspectives with respect to the governance of the legal profession in Saskatchewan. Reasons for seeking office: I am seeking a nomination as a new lawyer bencher because I believe that the creation of the position of New Lawyer Bencher was a very positive move by the Law Society, and believe that I am well suited to fill the position. I believe that I am able to represent the young lawyers of Saskatchewan as a bencher for a number of reasons. First of all, I believe that I am a capable leader - I am the current chair of two Canadian Bar Association Sections in Saskatoon (Technology Law and Privacy and Access Law). Second, I am an associate at McDougall Gauley LLP, which enjoys an upstanding reputation as a Saskatchewan

8 firm. Third, I have a significant amount of experience working with, and advancing the perspectives of young lawyers, both in Saskatchewan, and in Ontario (where I practiced prior to my return to Saskatchewan). Finally, I believe that I am a good all-around representative of the category that the Law Society classifies as New Lawyer Benchers.
