4 ATL knows that not everything in your career runs smoothly. Whether it s advice about your employment or help with problems such as accidents at work or false allegations, we will provide you with a high level of support, advice, representation and professional cover, including confidential legal assistance and personal injury protection. You will have access to a support network that includes workplace reps and local branch officers, for any queries or concerns that you may have. Plus our member advisers and regional officials are on hand to provide you with confidential support if you are faced with an employment-related issue after you join us. And you can always find answers to many of your queries via our online help and advice pages and publications by visiting us at For financial assistance in times of illness or hardship, most ATL members can apply to the ATL Trust Fund; visit for further information. We also have an in-house team of lawyers to support you, should the need arise, and an out-of-hours helpline for you to talk about work problems outside the normal working day.

Over the past 12 months * ATL has won more than 3.75 million for its members in compromise agreements, whilst nearly 400,000 was recovered for injured members and their families. ATL dealt with more than 17,000 contacts seeking advice, help, support and representation. *From June 2014 to June We represent members in the most difficult circumstances ATL recovered 200,000 in employment tribunal cases, including disability discrimination, unfair dismissal and equal pay. Of the cases issued in the employment tribunal, 80% resulted in settlement prior to the hearing or were successful at the hearing. The website provides several in-depth video case studies demonstrating how these schools have transformed curriculum. Whether you are a teacher, support staff member or leader, you can watch and read how education staff at every level have responded to changes to curriculum and assessment, and how they ve approached planning, implementation and evaluation. Outlining a range of pedagogical approaches, the website provides curriculum audit tools, CPD materials and lesson planning resources. 9 ATL has a well-respected voice in the education debate because we provide considered analysis and alternatives on issues such as assessment, curriculum, and inspection. ATL listens to you, our members, and represents your views on the issues that matter most. Responding to the ongoing challenges facing the profession, we continue to campaign: against high-stakes testing and the impact on young people to protect the pay and working conditions of our members including an end to excessive workload against cuts to education funding in all sectors, particularly in FE for a different approach to school inspection which works with teachers not against them to get Government to address the accelerating crisis in recruiting and retaining teachers and heads against forced academisation of schools and the expansion of the free schools programme because we know that excellent teaching and learning, not continued structural change, has the biggest impact on education standards. It is vital that our schools and colleges offer the highest quality education, led by the best and most experienced education professionals. 13 ATL members automatically receive insurance protection and cover, including the following: Personal accident cover members are automatically insured for 10,000 against accidental death, permanent total disablement and loss of limbs or eyesight, that occur at or en route to or from work. A further maximum of 5,000 can be claimed for funeral expenses after a member s accidental death under the above circumstances. Loss or damage to property or cash within work premises (maximum benefit payable 300). An excess of 25 applies, ie the first 25 will not be paid. Malicious damage to motor vehicles within the boundaries of the work establishment (maximum benefit payable 500). An excess of 25 applies, ie the first 25 will not be paid. Damage caused by another vehicle is not covered, nor is theft of property from the vehicle. Assault members are covered against absence from work after injury following physical assault by any person whether at work or elsewhere. 200 a week is payable for four weeks after the first seven days of absence. Dental treatment if you require dental treatment as a result of assault or an accident, at or en route to or from work, a maximum benefit of 200 is payable. An excess of 25 applies, ie the first 25 will not be paid. Hospitalisation members hospitalised due to accidental bodily injury, at or en route to or from work, are eligible for a payment of 50 per day in hospital after the first 24 hours. Coma any member hospitalised due to accidental bodily injury which results in a continuous unconscious state is eligible for a further 50 per day after the first 24 hours in addition to the hospitalisation benefit above.
