2 1. The kinds of special educational needs for which provision is made at Brooksby Melton College school/college Brooksby Melton College is a college of further education specialising in Landbased Courses (Animals, Horticulture, Countryside, Equine, Agriculture) and Independent Living and Learning courses. BMC is committed to working with students to identify their learning needs and goals. 2. Information about insert name of college/setting policies for the identification and assessment of pupils with special educational needs. The college has an Additional Support Manager who oversees the additional needs of students, the college also has a team of specialist tutors and learning support assistants that provide different types of support. Students at all levels may require learning support at some stage of their course of study. The aim of learning support staff is to work in partnership with tutors to ensure that students receive the necessary support to complete their chosen course. The college works closely with the students school/setting by attending transition meetings/reviews to identify and discuss support needs. Students can be referred for ALS at any time during their Course.

Information about insert name of college/setting policies for making provision for pupils with special educational needs whether or not pupils have Education Health and Care (EHC) Plans, including: (a) How Brooksby Melton College evaluates the effectiveness of its provision for such pupils college/setting The college has a rigorous quality assurance framework and was assessed by OFSTED as a Good college The additional support was highlighted as a key strength by OFSTED The students participate in regular surveys and student voice meetings on the effectiveness of support they receive. Students receiving support have a high achievement rate. The additional learning support team support students to help to remove barriers to learning and aid students in their studies. Brooksby Melton College college/setting The setting s (b) arrangements for assessing and reviewing the progress of pupils with special educational needs The college makes regular contact with parents via reports and parents evenings throughout the year. Each student is allocated a personal tutor and course tutor. Students are set personal targets with their tutors which are reviewed on a regular basis. A college/home communication book is put in place for students where appropriate. Students/Parents/Carers are invited into College to discuss with tutors and support staff progression opportunities within the College environment from Entry level to Level 1, 2, 3 and HE Courses.
4 Brooksby Melton College (c) teaching pupils with special educational needs college/setting approach to Students at all levels may require learning support at some stage during their course of study. Learning support staff in partnership with tutors, aim to ensure that students receive the necessary support to complete their chosen course. All students will have an individual learning plan which is reviewed regularly to support progression. Students can be supported by Learning Support Assistants, Learning Development Tutors or the Learning Mentor according to their needs. (d) How Brooksby Melton College college/setting will adapt the curriculum and learning environment for pupils with special educational needs BMC is committed to working with student's to identify and meet their learning needs and goals. Learning support staff work with tutors to ensure that the students receive the necessary support to complete their chosen course, by implementing any reasonable adjustments and adaptations to the curriculum that are required in or out of the classroom setting, exam support where necessary and small groups.
5 (e) How Brooksby Melton College college/setting will provide additional support for learning that is available to pupils with special educational needs We offer a range of support services including, basic skills learning support, personal care, communication and interpreting support, emotional and behavioural support, support for students with visual impairment, mental health support, support for moderate and general learning difficulties, ASD. Support for all types of disabilities and dyslexia. Where necessary students are access screened by specialist tutors to assess their exam support needs. All support needs will be discussed at interview, enrolment and at any time on programme. (f) Activities that are available for pupils with special educational needs in addition to those available in accordance with the curriculum All extra-curricular activities are available to all students at all levels. This includes trips, supported lunch clubs, workshops and during breaks. Support is available at the beginning and the end of the day for those students that need support accessing transport/taxis. Further advice can be obtained from our Transport Administrator.
6 (g) Support that is available for improving the emotional and social development of pupils with special educational needs. The college takes the safety of students very seriously. It strives to ensure a safe and welcoming environment and also has comprehensive safeguarding procedures detailing the actions that will be taken if a student discloses or is suspected to be suffering from any form of abuse. The Additional Learning Support Manager oversees the support arrangements for personal care, administration of medicines, social support and medical support, as per College policy. All students are actively encouraged to contribute to the college forums and student voice campaigns. 4. The name of and contact details of SEN co-ordinator / Manager of Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) / Additional Learning Support Department Any concerns can be raised with your Course Tutor or Learning Support Co-ordinators.
7 5. Information about the expertise and training of staff in relation to children and young people with special educational needs and about how specialist expertise will be secured. The additional learning support manager oversees a team of highly qualified and experienced specialist teachers and support staff and works closely with external agencies to provide specialist services e.g. Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy. Our Advice and Guidance Team can refer students to outside agencies such as Mental Health and Counselling. All staff participate in an extensive staff training programme available to them throughout each year. This includes and not limited to Supporting teaching and learning at level 2 and level 3, Autism training, Epilepsy, ADHD, First Aid, Dyslexia Awareness, Access Screening, Equality and Diversity, Challenging Behaviour, Study Skills. 6. Information about how equipment and facilities to support children and young people with special educational needs will be secured. Brooksby Melton College is committed to ensuring we comply with the SEN Code of practice and Equality Act which requires that students with disabilities or learning difficulties have equal access to our facilities and courses. The college has a lift at each campus, disabled parking bays, disabled changing and toilet facilities with wheelchair access. Staff liaise with parents to discuss equal access and the appropriate provision for individual students. Assistive technology is available to all students dependent upon their need i.e. Read Write Gold, Dragon, VADO and Dictaphones.
8 7. The arrangements for consulting parents/carers of children with special educational needs about, and involving such parents/carers in, the education of their child. Brooksby Melton College welcomes working with the parents/carer for a student with special needs from the earliest opportunity. This is usually when transition arrangements are being planned and discussed with their current education provider. The college offers various open/taster days and welcomes everyone to attend, curriculum staff and support staff will be available to discuss courses on offer and support needs of students. 8. The arrangements for consulting young people with special educational needs about, and involving them in, their education. The students' views are really important to us and involving them from the earliest point of the transition process is important. Regular tutorials with their personal tutor and course tutor take place each week. Students are encouraged to take part in college forums and student voice meetings.

Any arrangements made by the governing body or the proprietor relating to the treatment of complaints from parents and carers of pupils with special educational needs concerning the provision made at the setting. Brooksby Melton College have a full complaints policy for parents/carers. This is available on request. 10. How the governing body involves other bodies, including health and social services bodies, local authority support services and voluntary organisations, in meeting the needs of pupils with special educational needs and in supporting the families of such pupils The college works closely with a variety of external agencies including speech therapy, occupational therapist, autism outreach, social services to support students and families with needs.

The setting s arrangements for supporting pupils with special educational needs in transferring between phases of education or in preparing for adulthood and independent living. To help us meet the needs of each student and complete a smooth transition, taster days are arranged to aid this process during their final year at school/college, as well as observations of students in their settings by Brooksby Melton College Staff. Transition forms are sent to schools to gather information on the current support arrangements of those students to aid a smooth transition. Students participate in work experience to gain knowledge, experience and aid progression.
