2 Funding Your Education The Florida Department of Education (FDOE), Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) offers a variety of student financial aid. APPLY NOW for state of Florida scholarships and grants for the school year. IT S EASY! 1. Complete the Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application online at Select State Grants, Scholarships & Applications, and then Apply Here from the menu bar. Apply one time to be considered for all state-funded scholarships and grants. 2. Check your personal inbox for an application acknowledgement notification within 24 hours of submission. Thereafter, all communications sent from OSFA will be listed and viewable online on your Financial Aid Recipient History Screen (History Screen). Instructions for obtaining the User ID and PIN for History Screen access are issued to applicants in the application acknowledgement correspondence notification and also provided below (#4). Upon History Screen access, the applicant may view the application notification under Section VII: Correspondence History. Keep your address up to date on your History Screen. We cannot notify you of a recent scholarship or grant award update if we cannot contact you. You may always view program updates on OSFA s homepage. Visit and then select State Grants, Scholarships & Applications. 4. View your History Screen regularly. Check your application status online and keep OSFA informed of institutional or demographic changes. Go to Select State Grants, Scholarships & Applications, Application Status & Award History, and then the appropriate option. To obtain your User ID and PIN, if necessary, select Get My User ID and PIN. Activate your User ID and PIN - Know it, Use it, Be Responsible for your state financial aid! 3 Additional Financial Aid Sources of Information State Florida Academic Counseling & Tracking for Students: Federal Free Application for Federal Student Aid: Federal Student Aid Information Center: U.S. Department of Education Portal for Student Aid: Remember also to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All federal financial aid programs, Florida s need-based programs, the Access to Better Learning and Education Grant, the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, and the William L. Boyd, IV, Florida Resident Access Grant require students to complete this federal application. Student Scholarship s Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Provides scholarships based on high school academic achievement and is Florida s largest merit-based scholarship program. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) during their senior year of high school (after December 1 st and prior to graduation). Students graduating mid-year must submit the completed FFAA by August 31 st of their graduation year (prior to the spring term enrolled). Additionally, eligible students must submit a completed (error free) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to their first disbursement each academic year. José Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund Provides scholarship assistance to Hispanic-American students who meet scholastic requirements and demonstrate financial need. Applicants for undergraduate study must apply during their senior year of high school. Graduate students may apply; however, priority for the scholarship is given to graduating high school seniors. To be considered, high school seniors must submit a completed (error free) FFAA and provide supporting documentation by April 1 st. Each student must also submit a completed (error free) FAFSA in time to be processed by the U.S. Department of Education by the May 15 th deadline.

4 Student Scholarship s Rosewood Family Scholarship Fund Provides scholarship assistance to a maximum of 25 direct descendants of Rosewood families affected by the incidents of January 1923 to attend full-time at eligible state universities, Florida Colleges (public community colleges), or public postsecondary vocational technical schools. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FFAA by April 1 st and submit a completed (error free) FAFSA in time to be processed by the U.S. Department of Education, by the May 15 th deadline. Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans Provides scholarship assistance for dependent children and spouses of Florida veterans or service members who: died as a result of service-connected injuries, diseases, or disabilities sustained while on active duty, or have been verified by the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs as having service-connected 100% total and permanent disabilities, and dependent children whose parent is classified as a prisoner of war or missing in action by the Armed Forces of the U.S. or in the capacity of civilian personnel captured while serving with the consent or authorization of the U.S. Government during wartime service are also eligible. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FFAA by April 1 st. The Florida Department of Veterans Affairs will certify a veteran s eligibility. Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship Provides scholarship assistance to undergraduate students who meet academic requirements, demonstrate financial need, and attend Bethune- Cookman University, Edward Waters College, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, or Florida Memorial University. 5 Student Scholarship s Minority Teacher Education Scholarship / Florida Fund for Minority Teachers Provides scholarship funding for African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, and Native-American students who indicate the potential to become good teachers. Eligible initial students must have met United States citizenship and Florida residency requirements, have earned 60 credit hours or an Associate of Arts degree, have not exceeded 18 hours of upper division educational courses, be juniors, not have received a baccalaureate degree in education, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and be newly admitted into a teacher education program at any of the program s participating postsecondary institutions. To be considered, students must apply via the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers website at Student Grant s Florida Student Assistance Grant Florida s largest need-based grant program provides assistance to degreeseeking, resident, undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and are enrolled in eligible public or private postsecondary institutions. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA by the deadline specified by the participating postsecondary institutions. Visit to complete the online application. Florida Public Postsecondary Career Education Student Assistance Grant Provides assistance to eligible Florida residents who demonstrate financial need and enroll in certificate programs of 450 or more clock hours or 15 semester hours at participating Florida Colleges (public community colleges) or career centers operated by district school boards. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA by the deadline specified by the participating postsecondary institutions. Boyd, IV, Florida Resident Access Grant Provides tuition assistance to full-time Florida undergraduate students who attend eligible private, non-profit Florida colleges or universities. Eligible students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA prior to their first disbursement each academic year. For participation and application deadline information, students should check with the postsecondary institutions they plan to attend. Access to Better Learning and Education Grant Provides tuition assistance to full-time Florida undergraduate students enrolled in degree programs at eligible private Florida colleges or universities. Eligible students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA prior to their first disbursement each academic year. For participation and application deadline information, students should check with the postsecondary institutions they plan to attend. Florida Work Experience Provides eligible Florida resident, undergraduate students the opportunity to secure work experiences that complement and reinforce their educational programs and career goals. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA by the deadline specified by the participating college, university, Florida College (public community college), career center operated by a district school board, or educator preparation institute. For information on participating employers and institutional application deadlines, students should check with the postsecondary institutions they plan to attend. First Generation Matching Grant Provides grant funding to Florida resident, undergraduate students enrolled at state universities or Florida Colleges (public community colleges), who demonstrate financial need, and whose parents have not earned baccalaureate degrees. To be considered, students must submit a completed (error free) FAFSA by the deadline specified by the participating postsecondary institutions.
