3 Why am I watching this? You probably fall into one of these categories: You came to an orientation where no Psychology Faculty or Academic Advisor was available to give you a presentation. You signed up for orientation under another major, attended the presentation and decided to change your major to Psychology You went to orientation and wanted more information on the Psychology major.

8 How to make an Academic Advising appointment You will first need to obtain a CSUSM student account. Go to the following website: Click on the blue Appointments box Log in with your CSUSM account Enter phone number, topic, and your question Advising Scheduler will only show availability for 7 to 12 business days in advance (may cover the end of one week and the beginning of another)

9 Get to know your Degree Progress Report. This is what your Academic Advisor uses to tell you what classes you still need Learn how to run it Learn how to read it Learn how to understand it

10 Degree Progress Report (DPR) Provides academic evaluations for: Transfer Courses Test Credit (AP, IB, CLEP) Displays Graduation Requirements Monitors requirements that are MET and those that you NEED Answers the question: What courses do I need to take to graduate?

11 Accessing your DPR From the campus home page, click on mycsusm. Log in with you user ID and password. Click on Student Center. Click on Degree Progress under Academics Choose report type DEGREE PROGRESS REPORT Click GO. Instructions on how to access and read your DPR: l

13 Tips for Using the Advising Scheduler to Schedule Advising Appointments Important things to remember We do not offer walk in appointments (except for the first two weeks of each semester) Always provide a Phone number, preferably your cell Always enter a Question Check often and early in the AM, new appointments appear after midnight. Make an appointment during off peak times Registration period peak Summer break (June August) off peak Spring break off peak Winter break off peak

18 Psychology Major Worksheet in detail Lower Division Requirements PSYC 100, 220, and 230 need to be completed as soon as possible. These are pre requisites for other upper division classes and Psychology labs It is your responsibility to know about prerequisites Prerequisites are listed in the General Catalog Upper Division requirements Can only be taken at CSUSM or another four year accredited university

Do not register for a course where you have not met the pre requisite If you ve taken classes at community college or another four year university be prepared to show transcripts proving you ve completed the prerequisite on the first day of class. Course pre requisites are listed under the course description in the catalog and on the major worksheets

20 Important Information about the Psychology Major Core classes and Psychology Labs are usually held during the day. Psychology Labs are ONLY offered during Fall and Spring. Not all labs are offered every semester. Once you ve met the pre requisites, register for PSYC 332, 360 or 362. PSYC 332, 360 and 362 are pre requisites for many of the psychology labs that you will be taking your last two semesters.

21 Important Information about the Psychology Major (con t) Psychology Faculty and Psychology Academic Advisor DO NOT recommend taking two psychology Labs in one semester. Psychology Labs are typically taken your last two semesters. DO NOT take a PSYC course for your DD requirement

25 Language other than English Requirement (LOTER) Language at intermediate level Third semester / 201 level language Approved Study Abroad programs AP or CLEP exams Proficiency exam High school language will not clear this requirement unless you passed an AP language exam with a 3 or higher

26 How to Determine which Language Level to Take: In a 102 level language course, instruction will be taught strictly in the native language Professors require proof that prerequisites have been met High school or college transcripts Test scores

28 Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) You must maintain a 2.0 minimum GPA ( C average) Major coursework must be a C or higher Failure to do so may result in academic probation/disqualification
