15 Cloud gateways accelerate data access Cloud gateways: Allow customers to move unstructured and application data to clouds without forcing a rewrite to support object storage Are physical or virtual devices that sit on-premises and look like NAS or block storage systems Can export ingested data to public or private clouds Are useful for reducing WAN bandwidth and typically include deduplication and compression capabilities Provide a cache of recently accessed data to minimize data movement over WANs. 15

20 Cost Control Matters! Be mindful of the cloud storage services charges: Capacity: usually metered as $ per GB per month for object and NAS cloud storage, but some hourly charges are emerging! Bandwidth: ingress bandwidth charges are usually waived but there are egress charges to pull data back or move it. Performance/IOPS: high performance block and application storage often have more expensive tiers that guarantee performance levels for sensitive use cases.
