2 Methodology 2 WHO? 53 Irish HR Leaders WHEN? 27 th February 26 th March 2015 WHERE? Republic of Ireland HOW? Online Quantitative Survey
3 SUMMARY
4 Key Take Outs I Over half (57%) of Irish HR leaders citied their workplace currently has a formal wellness / employee health programme in place. Somewhat unsurprisingly, this was significantly higher among larger workplaces with almost 3 out of 4 (71%) workplaces with 100+ employees having an employee health programme in place compared to only 20% of workplaces with less than 100 employees. 1 in 10 workplaces with no current employee health programme in place plan to introduce one in the next 12 to 18 months. While a further 22% indicated that this is something their workplace is open to implementing in the next months. Half of Irish HR leaders citied employee health and wellbeing is something they are more concerned about compared to 12 months ago. This was highest amongst workplaces with 500+ employees (67%). A third of Irish HR leaders feel that their employees work/life balance has improved compared to 12 months ago. Those with no formal wellness programme in place are more likely to say there has been no improvement in their employees work/life balance (43% vs. 17%) while those with a current employee health programme are more likely to say there has been no change compared to last year (40% vs. 13%). Although most employees work hours appear to have remained the same compared to 12 months ago (60%), over a quarter (28%) of Irish HR leaders reported their employees work hours have increased compared to 12 months ago. 4
5 Key Take Outs II Almost a third (30%) of Irish HR leaders think their employees have become more resilient to stress/pressure compared to 12 months ago. Interestingly, this was highest amongst workforces with less than 100 employees (40%) and over 500 employees (43%). 5 The majority (92%) of Irish HR leaders feel that employee wellness has had a direct or indirect impact on a company s overall performance over the past 12 months. However, less than half (47%) say their company is doing more to support employees in managing wellness compared to 12 months ago. With only 55% of Irish HR leaders citing employee wellbeing/resilience has become a priority issue for within their business in the last 12 months, it appears that employees are taking it upon themselves to manage their wellness with 6 out of 10 Irish HR leaders citing their employees are adopting a more proactive approach to healthcare than they did 12 months ago. If we look at this by workplaces with a formal wellness programme in place we see that those with an employee health programme currently in place are significantly more likely to have made employee wellbeing / resilience a priority issue compared to 12 months ago. Less than two-fifths (38%) of Irish HR leaders think the senior managers within their organisation are good at identifying employee health issues. This is predominantly driven by those with an employee wellness programme currently in place while those workplaces without one are more likely to not be concerned with identifying employee health issues.
