2 ITpreneurs conducted a research to assist IT Managers and IT professionals in their decisions to invest in ITIL training and certification Why should I invest in getting my team ITIL certified? What will ITIL certification do for my career? IT Leader (eg: CIO) IT Professional Will training and certification help to boost on-the-job performance and to increase the success of implementations? Will training and certification help me to advance my career, increase my salary and build my network? 2

This can be analyzed by looking at the following aspects: Career development On-the-job performance Building a network Improved credibility / status Increased salary 4

5 The primary driver for IT professionals to invest in ITIL training / certification is to become better at implementing or managing ITIL/ITSM in an organization 5

6 Achieving ITIL v3 Expert of v2 Service Manager certification resulted in the following career and performance improvements: On-the-job performance Greater job productivity (for >79% of Experts) better and more well rounded managers (> 65%) Increased ability to lead implementations (>80%) Building a network Better connected with colleagues (> 50%) Better connected with industry peers (68%) Improved credibility / status Expertise highly valued by colleagues (75%) Stand out against noncertified professionals (69%) Increased Salary Increase in salary (57%) Career development Key enabler to achieve ambitions (74%) 6

10 Credibility ITIL Expert / Service Manager certification gives IT professionals a competitive advantage and makes them stand out amongst the rest. The certification surely helps you to gain confidence and makes you to stand out amongst the rest who haven't got it.. 9% Does not make me stand out 91% Certification makes me stand out amongst those without certification 10

11 Credibility ITIL v3 Experts / v2 Service Managers feel that certification makes them feel more valued as a professional.i have become the de-facto subject matter expert and am consulted by different divisions within my organization for input or review into many different projects 83 % say their expertise is more valued by management 87 % say their expertise is more valued by peers in and outside the company 11

12 Salary Certification will result in a higher salary for most IT professionals, but this is seen as a by-product, not a main driver The certification itself doesn't lead to a salary increase, but it's one of the development pieces that enables you to do a better job, which then leads to increases, especially when you get new employment (which I did four years ago). It s an in-demand skillset so it opened up more employment opportunities for me.. It has helped me find a better position 39% No or Not yet.
