Kohn/Witlin/Harmon STUDENT SYLLABUS COURSE DESCRIPTION This course provides the required knowledge for accountants in federal taxation and business law. The curriculum provides a working knowledge of federal taxation of individuals, corporations, partnerships, estates and trusts. It covers the concepts of business law, debtorcreditor relationships, government securities acts, employment regulations and environmental regulations. It also provides knowledge of professional and legal responsibilities including professional conduct of accountants. The course curriculum includes all of the CPA exam materials. Prerequisite: undergraduate degree and accounting courses to qualify to sit for the CPA exam. 3 semester credits Learning objectives/outcomes To provide the student with the ability to perform professional auditing and acquire current knowledge for the Certified Public Accounting exam. By the end of the course the student should be able to: A. Demonstrate knowledge of federal taxation of individuals Corporations, partnerships, estates and trusts. B. Government regulation of business including the federal securities acts, employment regulations, and environment regulations. C. Demonstrate knowledge of professional and legal responsibilities including professional conduct. Requirements to take the course: 1. Undergraduate degree in Accounting or able to meet the CPA requirements of Connecticut to sit for the CPA exam. 2. Permission by the professor and administration to take the course. As a UB policy, it is expected that each student that attends one hour of classroom instruction will require a minimum of two hours of out of class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester.
