2 Baltasar Beferull Lozano - Master Advanced Sciences of Modern Telecommunications 1 Main features of the Master Official Public Master Program since 2007 Orientation: Fundamental and Applied Research + Technology Transfer Main goals: Offer a set of courses in synchrony with the state of the art in Telecommunications Offer a Postgraduate Program similar to prestigious universities of USA or Europe (Some of the courses are not offered at any other spanish institution) Why not being able to study in Spain postgraduate courses offered at MIT or Berkeley? Teaching team includes professors with a strong international experience (several professors with teaching, professional and research experience abroad having taught previously at Universities such as UCLA, Columbia University, University of Cambridge, EPFL,...) Generating scientists/technologists in new directions of research & tech. transfer: Master will push forward several research and technology transfer directions Maximizing capacities of research and innovation in: Research Institutes & Departments, Technology Parks & Tech. Companies

5 Baltasar Beferull Lozano - Master Advanced Sciences of Modern Telecommunications 4 Students have to take (at least) 60 ECTS 25 core (mandatory) ECTS = 5 modules 10 ECTS of Master Thesis (Proyecto Fin de Máster) 25 optional ECTS = 5 modules (from an offer of 50 ECTS = 10 optional modules) Division of each academic year in 3 Quarters Each module has 5 ECTS (except the Master Thesis, which is 10 ECTS) Note: Possibility of taking some courses in other institutions abroad (in the making)

15 Baltasar Beferull Lozano - Master Advanced Sciences of Modern Telecommunications 14 International Excellence in Education & Training MIT (Prof. Vivek Goyal) The choice of topics and their allocations to core and optional courses is innovative but at the same time roughly consistent with what is done at the top electrical engineering and communication systems departments in the United States and Europe. Students that complete this program will be extremely well prepared for both PhD programs and immediate contribution to engineering research and development Stanford (Prof. Andrea Goldmith) I have spent time visiting several universities in Spain, and to my knowledge there exists no Masters program of a similar quality anywhere in the country, and in fact, there are few programs in all of Europe to rival this one. The creation of this program would generate a new pool of talented students who might go on to further graduate study or create or join high-tech companies based on the fundamental knowledge obtained through the program. As such, this program could bring significant economic benefits and opportunities to Spaniards Berkeley (Prof. Kannan Ramchandran) It is clear from the proposal that this program would be a great contribution to the academia and industry of Spain. The education provided by the program can allow the opening of new research directions, can attract researchers from abroad (transnational research groups), and attract funding for research and the creation of new and competitive start-ups/spin-offs

16 Baltasar Beferull Lozano - Master Advanced Sciences of Modern Telecommunications 15 Deutsche Telekom (Dr. Vladan Velisavljevic) This Master is promising because it offers an educational program that is competitive with the top schools and Departments of Communications both in United States and Europe, thus, it could become a leading and internationally recognized Postgraduate Program Telefónica I+D (Xavier Kirschner, Director de Prospectiva) Ofrece un programa de cursos bien pensado y novedoso, que preparará a los estudiantes para la investigación tanto fundamental como aplicada, convirtiéndoles en candidatos excelentes para ser contratados por empresas clave de innovación en Telecomunicaciones, tanto en España, como en Europa o los Estados Unidos. Los contenidos de este Máster son de gran interés para nuestra empresa Me permito resaltar que varias de las asignaturas, p.e.
