2 How to Earn Your Business and Information Systems (BIS) Degree The BIS concentration offered by MJI is geared to support business and industry technologies. The term Information Systems supports essential business functions. These include: accounting, finance, business law, billing, payroll, financial transactions, scheduling of manufacturing activities, creating client databases and more. Computers play a key role in critical processes. Within the BIS Program, students may elect to graduate with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree by completing 120 credits. Students may also earn an Associates degree which requires the completion of 60 credits. About the Business and Information Systems Program (BIS) The Business and Information Systems (BIS) degree at MJI is designed to provide students with an essential understanding of how business works. The BIS degree focuses on a broad range of activities that can support critical business functions as well as contribute to technological needs in a company.

3 Frequently Asked Questions: How long will it take to complete my MJI degree? The time necessary to complete the program varies by student. Time spent at seminary/yeshiva may allow students to earn up to 30 transferable credits (per year with a maximum of 60 credits) toward their degree which greatly accelerates program completion. How do the online classes work? Online students are provided with the ability to access their classrooms and course content from anywhere in the world at any time. Class lectures are recorded for learning convenience. In addition, instructors may hold live classes allowing students immediate contact for lectures, questions or feedback. Students will have access to instructors, classmates and all other resources by and phone. Will I learn as much in an online class as in a traditional classroom? The online environment supports a student s desire to learn combined with the convenience of the student s personal schedule. Students still need to do the work and complete the assignments as in a traditional classroom. Will I have the opportunity to work directly with my professor or other classmates? Absolutely! In fact, many students have already spent time together in seminary or yeshiva. How do my transferred credits impact my curriculum? Depending on the number of accepted transfer credits, a student may be able to reduce the number of semesters necessary to complete their degree. Student transcripts are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Students will speak with an MJI Advisor to maximize transferred credits. How many credits do I have to take? Can I go part time? Students may take 3, 6, 9, 12 or more credits per semester. It s up to the student! Some students start with just 1 or 2 classes while others go full-time.

4 Business Information Systems 120 Credits Core Requirements Students choose a total of 12 classes from the following topics: Accounting Business Computers Economics Communications Finance BIS Electives 36 Credits 24 Credits Students may select any 24 credits from a wide variety of Business Computer and Math courses or apply credits transferred from another institution, including Study Abroad to meet the 24 credit BIS Electives requirement. Classes may be 3 or 4 credits. General Education General Electives 36 Credits 24 Credits Students choose a total of 12 classes from the following topics: Communications Math Science Intro to Computer Science Social Sciences & Studies Humanities Ethics/Philosophy/Religion Students may select any MJI course or apply credits transferred from another institution, including Study Abroad to meet the 24 credit General Electives requirement.

We strongly suggest that applicants speak to an MJI Advisor to develop their academic goals. For those students continuing their education from the MJI Study Abroad Program, MJI Online is the next stage of the MJI degree. Students are already accepted into the MJI degree program and are on an accelerated path to completion. MJI will verify proper transfer of credit as each study abroad semester concludes. Students outside of the MJI Study Abroad Program will need to request official transcripts and apply for admission to MJI in the BIS program. How to Apply for Financial Aid All financial aid eligibility is determined by completing the FAFSA form found at To ensure proper processing and timely receipt of financial awards, students applying for financial aid should complete and provide all necessary documentation concerning financial aid no later than June 1 prior to the academic year desired. 6 Michigan Jewish Institute (MJI) was founded in 1994 to serve the intellectual and academic needs of the Jewish community with particular emphasis on those who desire to study in a Jewish collegial environment. MJI is recognized as a 4-year, senior college accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award Associate and Bachelor degrees and certificates. Students are able to complete their degrees in several ways online, the traditional classroom or a blend of both methodologies. Working closely with host schools in Israel, students who participate in the MJI Study Abroad Program may earn up to 30 credits per year toward their bachelor degree.
