2 History and Overview The Warrington College of Business Administration is named in honor of Alfred C. Warrington IV. A 958 University of Florida graduate with a BSBA in accounting, Mr. Warrington is the founding chairman and former co-ceo of Sanifill, Inc. His 996 gift of $ million continues to allow business faculty to help students meet the needs of the st century. The business world is changing and the Warrington College of Business Administration is changing with it. Programs are continually evaluated for their relevance to business conditions in the state, the nation and the world. There is new emphasis on interpersonal skills the ability to communicate and work well with others and on globalization, business ethics and cultural diversity. Since the College of Business Administration was founded in 96, more than 44,000 students have earned business or accounting degrees, creating a national and international network providing information, advice and encouragement to today s students. There are three undergraduate degree programs offered by the college: a Bachelor of Science in Accounting (BSAc) from the Fisher School of Accounting; a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with a major in computer and information sciences, decision and information sciences, economics, finance, general business (online only), management or marketing; and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (BABA) with an area of specialization in any one of more than 70 academic disciplines. The college s educational objectives are to provide a formal instructional foundation for responsible participation in business, the professions and government; to stimulate interest in social, economic and civic responsibilities; to develop competence in making business decisions and in evaluating policy; and to encourage the intellectual inquiry of all students. To meet these objectives, the college s undergraduate degree programs are based on a broad foundation of study outside of the college that includes the university s general education, communication and computation requirements. This educational foundation helps prepare students for the college s preprofessional and business core requirements that cover the functional areas of business. Finally, students must select an area of specialization, either through a major within the college (BSAc and BSBA degrees) or an approved area of specialization outside the college (BABA degree). The studio facilities allow for the advanced taping and broadcasting of those selected preprofessional and core courses that are taught live and then replayed via Electronic Platforms (e.g., Internet and TV). Students have the ability to watch lectures online at It is this effective use of technology that allows the college to serve such a large number of students while maintaining the resources to keep junior - and senior-level classes at a reasonable size for a greater degree of student/faculty interaction. Students can access the university s Integrated Student Information System (ISIS) through the college s computer lab, which is run by the university s Center for Instructional and Research Computing Activities (CIRCA). The college also maintains a separate graduate computer center for instructional and research purposes. Professional Associations The Warrington College of Business Administration is an accredited member of AACSB International: The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Other organizations that have recognized the college s programs for their excellence include the Southern Economic Association and the National Retail Merchant s Association. Additionally, based on its excellence in international endeavors in teaching, research and service, the Warrington College of Business Administration was the first college of business in the United States to be accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). International Programs & Study Abroad The Warrington College of Business Administration faculty believes that knowledge of the global marketplace is vital for effective corporate leadership. An excellent way to obtain such knowledge is to study abroad for a semester or a full academic year. Students in good standing with the college who have a UF GPA of at least.5 are eligible to study abroad. The college has established exchange agreements with numerous foreign universities that allow UF students to count the credits earned abroad toward their UF degree. Programs include the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration in Mikkeli, Finland; the Norwegian School of Management in Oslo; INHOLLAND University - Haarlem, in the Netherlands; the MBAI in Paris; ESC Rouen in Rouen, France; ESC Grenoble in Grenoble, France; Carlos III University in Madrid, Spain; University of Glamorgan in Treforest, Wales; University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in Manchester, UK; Denmark s International Study Program in Copenhagen; and Luigi Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. Summer programs also are available at the Finnish and Danish schools. The college sponsors a summer study tour that includes stays in London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Warsaw and Prague. Internships in England are available through Richmond College in London. Finally, the Warrington College of Business Administration is a member of several international consortia that further expand the range of opportunities for foreign study. 3 COLLEGES for informal arrangements for transferable overseas study are virtually unlimited. Participants in approved study abroad programs are eligible for financial aid packages similar to students studying in Gainesville. Summer courses taken abroad count toward UF s residency requirement. With careful planning and prior approval, these courses can count toward major and/or business core requirements. Further information about international study opportunities is available from the Undergraduate Programs Office in 00 Stuzin Hall as well as the following Web site: Academic Policies and Procedures Admission Requirements Admission for freshmen and lowerdivision transfer students is administered through the university s Office of Admissions. For information on admission guidelines, refer to the General Requirements for Admission section in this catalog and/or the Office of Admissions Web site: Upper-division Transfer Admission Requirements for Online and Oncampus Programs The Office of Admissions determines the transferability of credit earned at other institutions. Students may transfer no more than 60 credit hours from community colleges as part of the hours required for a UF degree. The 60-credit hour transfer limit does not apply to course work taken at four-year institutions. Students who have achieved advanced upperdivision status, 90 credits or more, at a four-year institution are rarely admitted. Students with 90 or more credits are encouraged to complete their degree at their current institution and consider the University of Florida for graduate degree programs (See Graduate Programs in Business at The application deadlines listed in this catalog are strictly enforced (also listed on the Web at Transfer students who do not have a completed application on file, including all required documentation, transcripts, etc., will not be considered for admission and must apply for a subsequent term. Upper-division transfer students (defined as applicants with at least 60 credit hours) are admitted to the college for the fall, spring or summer A/C term, provided they fulfill the following requirements:. An Associate of Arts Degree (Florida community college transfers only). Completion of the CLAST Exam (State of Florida transfers only). Completion of all preprofessional courses with the required GPA. See table on previous page. 4. Submission of equivalency forms to the Warrington College of Business Administration Undergraduate Programs Office is necessary for preprofessional courses taken at private, out-of-state, and/or international institutions. A current equivalency table can be found at: quivalency.asp Please note that the Undergraduate Programs Office must have grades for at least three of the seven preprofessional courses before a tentative admission decision can be made. Applicants must also provide proof that any remaining preprofessional courses will be completed before enrolling at UF. The seven required preprofessional courses are as follows: ACG 0C Financial Accounting ACG 07 Managerial Accounting CGS 5 Problem Solving Using Computer Software ECO 0 Macroeconomics ECO 0 Microeconomics STA 0 Introduction to Statistics *MAC Survey of Calculus * CIS majors only: Must take MAC Analytical Geometry & Calculus in lieu of MAC. In addition, MAC Analytical Geometry & Calculus must be completed before enrolling at UF. Transfer students are required to take an 8 th course, specific to each major (except CIS and BABA) during their first term of enrollment at UF. See Programs of Study section for each major specific course. Students who complete preprofessional courses outside the state common course numbering system (students who attend out-of-state, private, and/or international institutions) must submit preprofessional equivalency forms if no active equivalency is on file. These forms should be submitted to the staff in 00 Stuzin Hall as early in the application process as possible. Course equivalency forms can be downloaded from the Internet at It is important to note that an academic catalog guarantees students graduation requirements, not admission requirements. Admission and tracking requirements are subject to change without notice for students not enrolled in the college. Preprofessional and General Education Requirements Courses used to meet preprofessional and general education requirements may not be taken by correspondence or pass/fail (known as S-U at the University of Florida). Students who wish to use a course from another institution to fulfill preprofessional and/or general education requirements should first consult with an adviser in the Undergraduate Programs Office. Postbaccalaureate Students Application procedures for postbaccalaureate status are the same for all students regardless of where they received their undergraduate degree, with the exception that former University of Florida students must apply for readmission, while non- University of Florida students apply for admission. Application forms are available from the Office of Admissions in Criser Hall. Depending on resource and enrollment constraints, students who have received a baccalaureate degree may be admitted for the following purposes: Students who have not received an undergraduate business or accounting degree may be admitted only if they wish to receive a BSBA or BABA degree. With permission of the Undergraduate Committee, students who have received their BSBA or BABA degree from the University of Florida, and who are not applying for graduate programs within the college, may be admitted for one term to complete courses for informational purposes only. Any student applying for a graduate program within the college may, at the discretion of the graduate program, be admitted to take courses in preparation for admission to the graduate program. With the exception of the third scenario, admission is selective and subject to the college s resource and enrollment constraints. Meeting the minimum requirements for admission does not ensure admission as a postbaccalaureate student. Students admitted to postbaccalaureate status are required to see an academic adviser to develop an academic plan. Nondegree Students Depending on resource constraints, students may be allowed to register in a nondegree status (i.e., transient student) provided they: Are State of Florida employees who have not previously attended the University of Florida as degree-seeking students, Have never applied to the University of Florida as degree-seeking students, -58 University of Florida

4 Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate business or accounting program at another university/college AND intend to transfer course work back to their home institution. Applicants for nondegree status are also required to submit a letter from their home institution requesting that they be given nondegree status and stating the specific courses that they are authorized to take. Students approved for nondegree status are only allowed to register for courses on the last day of drop/add. Nondegree registration is done on a space-available basis. Therefore, depending on course availability, students who must take a specific course for transfer back to their home institution may wish to explore other academic alternatives. It is important to note that the University of Florida does not allow courses taken as a nondegree student to be used to meet the requirements for a University of Florida degree. Financial Aid & Scholarships Information on scholarships designated exclusively for business students is available in the Undergraduate Programs office in 00 Stuzin Hall or online at hips.asp. College Requirements Students admitted to the college are expected to assume full responsibility for registering for the proper courses, fulfilling all requirements for degrees, and completing all courses. Academic advisers are available at the Undergraduate Programs Office in 00 Stuzin Hall. Students are encouraged to meet with an academic adviser during their first term in the college to establish an academic plan. Computer Requirement Computing needs will change as students progress through their undergraduate degree program. The functional needs of the first two years will be less than those of the junior and senior years. Refer to the university s homepage at or to the CIRCA Web page at for general computer information, as well as a link to the college s Web page and specific requirements for each program. Software Requirements (all students) Uniformity of software applications is critical. Group collaboration on projects is the norm; students can easily share documents and help each other if all use the same software. Since students and instructors may exchange data electronically, it is important that students and instructors use the same software products. The following software is necessary for a business degree program: WARRINGTON COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Microsoft Windows 000 OR XP Professional Edition Microsoft Office 000 Professional OR XP Professional with Access Microsoft Internet Explorer Microsoft Outlook Express Students should be competent in these basic products before beginning the program.
