1 DENTON COUNTY REPUBLICAN PARTY 2014 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION was founded as a means to offer quality educational opportunities to deserving students who need financial support for either (a) college preparatory education in order to attend college, (b) alternative or private school, (c) community college and/or (d) vocational training. The scholarship is designed to recognize students and families who subscribe to Conservative Core Values which include; placing ideas and principles above personal desire, weaknesses, fears and regrets a never-ending quest for the truth, despite obstacles based on emotion and personal experience, and spreading such truths for the benefit of all recognizing and utilizing the benefits of competition and hard work emphasizing charity, with its unexpected benefits teaching self-help rather than dependence on government and others frugality and efficiency giving those in authority due respect, but not to the point of accepting orders or assertions that are contrary to logic or morality downplaying significance of wealth, disparities in wealth, and materialism in general emphasizing self-reliance and being able to keep the fruits of one's labor not complaining, and instead taking practical action to improve one's situation emphasizing self-restraint against hurtful activities emphasizing humility and open-mindedness recognizing the power of the free market understanding that a rising tide lifts all boats, e.g. tax cuts benefit all. self-control as opposed to a self-indulgent search for instant gratification of desires. recognizing that evil does exist in the world, and making an effort to combat this force by whatever means necessary respecting the sanctity of life following Judeo-Christian principles. Based on the eligibility criteria, the Fund will award scholarships at $500 per student. The scholarships may be used for tuition, fees, or books. The scholarships will be paid directly to the receiving institutions by the Denton County Republican Party.

Faxed applications will not be accepted. Final candidates will be determined by the end of July. Confirmation of the student s enrollment will be required, with the actual payment made directly to the educational institution. 5 Your application and the following required documents must be received at Red, White and You Scholarship Program office by May 16, STUDENT: A typed essay of no more than 500 words. Based on these two questions: How do you define your family values? What is your strategy to maintain your family s core conservative values while seeking your higher education? ALONG WITH: 1. On one sheet of paper, describe any COMMUNITY SERVICE activities in which you have participated in the past four years, including the number of hours per week spent on the activity and how many days, months, or years you participated in the activity; and WORK EXPERIENCE you have had in the past four years, including your length of employment, the number of hours you worked, and how much you earned. 2. On another sheet of paper, give examples that demonstrate your leadership abilities and accomplishments. Include leadership positions you have held with any organization. Describe what leadership means to you. 3. At least one, but no more than three, LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION written on your behalf by persons not related to you (such as teachers, counselors and supervisors). One of the recommendations must come from the supervisor of a recent work or community service experience. The letters should be delivered in sealed envelopes with the application, and the persons signing the letters should also write their signatures across the flap of the sealed envelope. Each of your references should include a telephone number where he or she can be reached during the business day. It is the responsibility of each scholarship applicant to submit all of the required items on or before the application deadline of May 16, Faxed applications will not be accepted. Due to the volume of scholarship applications, Red, White and You Scholarship Program cannot assemble items that are missing from applications.
