Developed a successful, multi-disciplinary approach to curriculum that used a holistic approach that encompassed many aspects of a project. Implemented strong use of teams across disciplines, to target a project and creatively find solutions. Student Engagement Passionately committed to enabling hands-on, experiential learning opportunities for students, through individual and team projects, in collaboration with local businesses, non-profits, and other academic departments across campus. Efforts in this area include: Worked with students to establish a marketing campaign to encourage recycling across campus, integrated into the Marketing curriculum. Project required collaboration with student government, a student group focused on environmental efforts, and industrial engineering students engaged in designing bins and optimal location logistics. Facilitated students efforts to write and produce a sixty-second PSA promoting recycling efforts on campus, which is now playing at MSU sporting events. Collaborated with a film student to document a class project to develop a recycling campaign across campus, resulting in a six-minute documentary, available for review at Aided students in developing and presenting a comprehensive stakeholder analysis for the Rehau Sustainable House Project, in collaboration with the School or Arts and Architecture, Rehau International, and Greer Black, Inc. Worked with students on a public relations campaign, in collaboration with MSU facilities, to address a tree removal issue surrounding the new College of Business building site. Established a student task force and marketing team to address the use of recycled materials, such as fly ash for countertops, fountains, and bathrooms, in the new COB building. Facilitated a multi-disciplinary student task force, that presented research and recommendations to COB building architects and design committee for consideration. Presentation included a cost benefit analysis, as well as a marketing campaign to recycle local glass for the project. The proposal was accepted and helped with LEED certification, adding points for both an innovative approach, i.e., involving students in the process, and using local, recycled products. Teaching Experience Helped students explore general marketing concepts through real-world business projects, with an emphasis on application in the professional arena, for college students in class sizes ranging from 30 to 45. Used innovative teaching techniques to share professional selling techniques, sales partnerships, and sales management protocols using role-play, case studies, networking with business community members, and real-world business models involving community partnerships. Examined and applied successful models for professional oral and written communication, used in a professional business setting. Used cutting-edge tools, knowledge, and case studies to help students explore ways to change their work and personal environments, through sustainable business practices. Academic Service
3 Reeder-Kearns 3 Presidents task force CSAC As a Campus Sustainability Action Committee member, worked with professors and administrators across campus to develop curriculum across disciplines to support the proposed Sustainability Certificate and minor and master s degrees. Institute of Ecosystems As a task force member, worked to identify and expand the potential of the Institute; identified ways to provide educational opportunities to students. Green Threads Program As a workshop participant, learned about sustainability and how to integrate it into our course planning, throughout this three-day workshop, hosted by University of Montana. Yellowstone Business Partnership As a member of a four-person team representing MSU in a two- year program to learn sustainable business practices, processes and opportunities, and to implement sustainable change at MSU. Completed eight learning modules, four workshops and two annual conferences. Our MSU team collaborated with businesses in Wyoming, Idaho and Montana, and presented MSU progress at each workshop. Applied program knowledge to a variety of courses. Advisor As advisor to the MSU Student Toastmaster Club, was instrumental in bringing the student club to MSU and the College of Business. Worked to encourage student involvement and faculty support for this initiative. Future Service Work with administration and across disciplines to develop a Green Thread workshop for MSU faculty, to support the Climate Action Plan requirements, which requires the University to incorporate sustainability into all curriculum. Community Outreach Actively involved in networking within the business community to identify and develop student partnering opportunities. Projects include: Summit on Sustainability and the Environment collaboration with the Turner Foundation, Yellowstone Business Partnership, Network of Environmentally Conscious Organizations and MSU. Students worked to develop marketing plans and strategies, as well as gave presentations during the Summit. Call to Action Collaborated with the City of Bozeman and the MSU Extension Weatherization Training Center to develop a marketing campaign which helped the City implement its climate action initiative. The goal was to reduce the community s carbon footprint by 10% by Linx Transportation Partnered with Yellowstone Business Partnership, a non-profit organization, to create awareness of and support for a networked mass transportation system in the tri-state area and in Yellowstone Park. Board Member, Habitat for Humanity Advised the local chapter in areas of strategic planning, fundraising, and fiscal management. State Director, Montana, Global Sustainability Project Nomkhubulwane. This international effort, comprised of Africa, South America, and North America, called attention to the need to work collectively towards global sustainability efforts.
