3 Victim of crime? A guide to help Violence and other criminal acts pose a serious social problem. This brochure was prepared for those who are victims of various forms of crime. Everyone has the right to safety and security for his/her person and property. This is laid down in the UN Declaration of Human Rights. All those exposed to criminal actions should speak to someone about what happened. Several options are available to get help and information about victims rights. This brochure is intended as guide to a selection of such services. Help services are presented in alphabetical order with specialist services for children, adolescents and the elderly. A list of services and bodies offering free legal aid is included at the back of the brochure. In emergency situations do not hesitate call the police emergency number This brochure was prepared by Juridisk Rådgivning for Kvinner (JURK) and Rådgivningskontorene for kriminalitetsofre (RKK) with the financial support of the Ministry of Justice. 4 These organisations offer help: 4 ADAM Alternativ til vold (ATV) Barnebortføring.no Bokollektivet Dixi Ressurssenter Den uavhengige sosialrådgivningen (DUS) Advice and support for men who have been exposed to sexual assault. Tel: A service for violent offenders and their current or previous partners. Tel: A website run by the government that provides an overview of and information about the various problems associated with the kidnapping of children. A nationwide, 24/7 offer of accommodation for women that need assistance due to force, threats or violence, hereunder forced marriage. Tel: A service for men and women who have suffered rape, and their close family. Tel Dixi Oslo: Tel Dixi Stavanger: DUS is an information and advisory service run by social work students.

5 Fellesskap mot seksuelle overgrep (FMSO) Kirkens ressurssenter Kirkens SOS FMSO organises support centres nationwide. The centres offer help to women and men who have suffered sexual assault, and their close relatives. A service for women and men who have been exposed to assault. Tel: A help line for those experiencing a crisis situation. 24/7 crisis line: Text telephone for the deaf: Kontoret for voldsoffererstatning The office deals with applications for compensation for victims of violence who have suffered personal injury as a result. Tel: Krisesenter A crisis centre provides advice, support and guidance to those who have suffered maltreatment, attack or violence in the home. A crisis centre offers temporary shelter to women, men and children who are under threat. A crisis centre also offers advice and guidance, individual conversations, courses and groups for non-resident clients. Crisis centres are a low threshold alternative. It is not necessary to have a referral. 5

The emergency centre provides medical treatment and monitoring. Guidance and advice is also offered. Call your local hospital or A & E centre for the address of your nearest centre. 7 MiRA-Senteret Nadheim senter for kvinner og menn med prostitusjonserfaring Noabuse.no Politiet Pro-senteret Reform ressurssenter for menn A resource centre for all women from minority backgrounds. The centre offers amongst other services help to victims of violence and advice from trained specialists in a number of fields. Tel: A free, low threshold service centre. The centre offers dialogue and personal follow up to women and men involved in prostitution. Tel: A website with an overview of help initiatives and other information for victims of crime. The police website, with advice and information to those who been the victims of various types of criminal acts. The police service has dedicated coordinators for family violence and sexual assault. Your local police: Emergency number: 112 A government centre of expertise in the area of prostitution offering free help to women and men involved in prostitution. Tel: A service for men in difficult situations who need to talk. The service is available to men who have been victims of violence and those who have an anger-control problem. 7

Children s houses offer help to children and adolescents who have been exposed to assault or have witnessed violence. A telephone, MSN and mail service for girls between 10 and % confidential and most questions can be answered. An overview of jentevaktene (Girls Line) can be found on: A website that provides information to children and adolescents who sell or swap sexual services, or at risk of finding themselves in such a situation. A free help line where children and adolescents can speak with an adult in full anonymity. The Red Cross also has a site offering information to children and adolescents in 9
