4 Account executives Maarten Lobker Principal Anna Martirosian Resourcing & Operations Maarten is a senior marketing professional with extensive experience in building global brands and developing integrated campaigns. Born and educated in The Netherlands, Maarten is fluent in English, Dutch, German and Spanish. His international experience spans markets in North & South America, Europe and Asia. Anna is an accomplished HR professional with experience in virtually every aspect of running an effective personnel department. She has worked across many industries for both start-up and Fortune 500 organizations. Her specialty is sourcing, recruiting and managing talent. Maarten founded Branded Translations to combine his international marketing expertise with his passion for languages. Having localized many branded communications, he found that very few language agencies specialize in advertising content (virtually none that offer it exclusively). His goal is to fill this void by delivering quality translations of creative content where the localized version is as effective as the original. At Branded Translations, Anna personally screens, tests and works with every linguist before they are placed on assignment. It is her resourcefulness and attention to detail that allow us to provide the highest level of quality. Anna has lived in the United States, Armenia and Spain, and she speaks three languages.

5 Example of transcreation with options Option 1 Refréscate. Option 2 Fresquiiito. Option 3 Cere -nate Refresh yourself or Cool down. The Spanish for refreshing = refrescante, which is used to describe something that is cold, pleasant and soothing. Fresco = cool or fresh. In Spanish (as we do sometimes in English) we add letters to a word to give it more emphasis. The diminutive version tends to be used frequently when something is liked. We added ii s to the word fresquito to make it more fun and emphasize that the drink is very cool. This also makes it match the register and tone of the original ad. This option plays with the meaning of chill out or calm down, which in Spanish is synonymous with serénate (to calm or soothe) and cereza (cherry). If we join both words, we get cere-nate : calm down and get cherried. The quotation marks and hyphen are added to make clear that this made up word is meant to be playful. This play-of-words matches the register and tone of the original ad and is the most layout-friendly version.
