10 204.0 DefiniBons B Bo#le Filling Sta.on. A plumbing fixture that is connected to the potable water distribubon and building drainage system that is designed and intended for filling personal use drinking water bofles or containers not less than 10 inches (250 mm) in height. Such fixtures can be separate from or integral to a drinking fountain and can incorporate a water filter and a cooling system for chilling the drinking water. 10
11 209.0 DefiniBons G Gang Showers (Non- Residen.al). Shower compartments designed and intended for use by mulbple persons simultaneously in non- residenbal occupancies. 11
12 214.0 DefiniBons L Lavatory. 1) a basin or vessel, for washing. 2) a plumbing fixture, as above defined in (1), especially placed for use in personal hygiene. Principally not used for laundry purposes and never used for food preparabon, or utensils, in food services. 3) a fixture designed for the washing of the hands and face. SomeBmes called a wash basin. 12
13 307.0 Food Waste Devices Food Waste Devices. Where food waste devices exist they shall meet the following requirements: Pulpers and Mechanical Strainers. Pulpers and mechanical strainers shall automabcally discharge food waste. The water use for the pulpers or mechanical strainers shall not exceed 2 gpm. A flow restrictor shall be installed on the water supply to limit the water flow Food Waste Disposers. The water use for the food waste grinder shall not exceed the 8 gpm under full load condibon and 1 gpm under no- load condibon. Flow restrictors shall be installed on the water supply to limit the water flow rate to a maximum of 8 gpm. A load sensing device shall be installed to monitor current demand and regulate water flow. 13
14 307.0 Food Waste Devices con t Time Out and Shut Off. Pulpers, mechanical strainers, and food waste disposers shall have a Bme out system with push bufon to reacbvate. The maximum allowable run Bme cycle shall be 10 minutes Sink Drain Outlets. Where a strainer or basket is installed they shall be readily removable for disposing food waste Strainer Baskets. Strainer (scrapper) baskets shall either fit over a sink compartment or be afached to a drain system. The strainer basket shall be readily removable for emptying. 14
15 402.6 Showers Add EPA WaterSense specificabon Where provided, accessible shower compartments required for persons with disabilibes in accordance with Table shall not be permifed to have more than 4.0 gpm (15.14 L/m) total flow, where one outlet is the hand shower. The hand shower shall have a control with a nonposibve shutoff feature 15
16 402.7 Commercial Pre- Rinse Spray Valves Commercial Pre- Rinse Spray Valves. The flow rate for a pre- rinse spray valve installed in a commercial kitchen to remove food waste from cookware and dishes prior to cleaning shall not be more than gpm (0.08 L/s 4.85 L/m) at 60 psi (414 kpa). Where pre- rinse spray valves with maximum flow rates of 1.0 gpm (0.06 L/s) or less are installed, the stabc pressure shall be not less than 30 psi (207 kpa). Commercial kitchen pre- rinse spray valves shall be equipped with an integral automabc shutoff. 16
17 402.9 Drinking Fountains Drinking Fountains and Bo#le Filling Sta.ons. Drinking fountains shall be self- closing. BoFle filling stabons shall be included on or used as a subsbtute to meet the requirements of drinking fountains in at least 50 percent of the requirements for drinking fountains. BoFle filling stabons and drinking fountains shall be self closing. 17

22 PERC Phase 2 Focus Areas Pipe Size Reduc.on Long a topic of debate at code hearings, the potenbal for reduced pipe size to improve drainline transport distances will be studied A 3- inch test apparatus will be used in addibon to the 4- inch diameter apparatus employed in Phase 1 to determine impact of reducing pipe size relabve to the other variables ranked in Phase 1. Addi.onal Flush Volume Level Phase 1 results indicated a behavioral shin and a chaobc drainline performance condibon resulted at the 3.0 Lpf / 0.8 gpf consumpbon level. Phase 2 will invesbgate drainline transport performance at the 3.8 Lpf (1.0 gpf) volume level. Many U.S. manufacturers are already producing toilets that flush at or near this consumpbon level for both commercial and residenbal applicabons.
23 Phase 2 Focus Areas Toilet Paper Characteris.cs Phase 1 indicated a very strong significance for the wet tensile strength of toilet paper to impact drainline transport performance We cannot assume the results achieved related to toilet paper when using the 3- inch diameter pipe. Toilet Flush Characteris.cs Phase 1 results indicated non- significance of the toilet flush characterisbcs Percent Trailing Water and Flush Rate Before these characterisbcs can be dismissed, results must be confirmed in Phase 2 It will be cri.cal to study these variables at the 3- inch diameter pipe size
24 PERC Phase 2 - Deliverables Deliverable 1 Pipe Size Reduc.on Phase 2 of the PERC study will show how a commonly suggested pipe size reducbon (going from 4- inch diameter pipe to 3- inch pipe) will impact drainline transport in a long horizontal run. Further, it will rank the significance of reducing pipe diameter to flush consumpbon level reducbons, slope, toilet paper wet tensile strength, and toilet discharge characterisbcs of flush rate and percent trailing water. The results from Phase 2 will provide needed data in understanding the implicabons of pipe size reducbons and may advise future considerabons of pipe sizing requirements.
25 Phase 2 - Deliverables Deliverable 2 Added 1.0 gpf discharge level EvaluaBng a new flush discharge level at 3.8 Lpf (1.0 gpf) will provide for a befer understanding of how the drainline performs at the cribcal consumpbon level between 4.8 Lpf (1.28 gpf) and 3.0 Lpf (0.8 gpf), where drainline performance in Phase 1 became chaobc. This will provide addibonal insight into the Bpping point flush volume level, below which chronic blockage problems are more likely to occur.
26 Phase 2 - Deliverables Considering the two deliverables together, Phase 2 will evaluate how pipe size reducbon in a building drain might allow for the successful use of lower consumpbon toilets in new installabons that employ smaller diameter drains. Phase 2 will also provide data to help illustrate if we are indeed reaching a Bpping point where further toilet consumpbon level reducbons are risky in installabons that do not provide for significant addibonal flows into the building drain.
27 Phase 2 - Budget Phase 2 of this research study will cost approximately $170, A significant increase over the approximately $70, used to complete Phase 1. ~90% of the cost is related to labor. Phase 2 will be a 35 week tesbng program We thank all the PMI members who have chipped in to support this cri.cal research!
