Dean, Graduate Studies, Continuing Education and Community Relations (Interim) Mirroring Cheyney University s commitment to access, opportunity and excellence, the Center City location builds upon those principals at its convenient downtown Philadelphia site. Courses and programs offered at this location provide the opportunity for persons of all ages to participate in education as a life long learning process. Cheyney University is developing new programs for pre-college, undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, nontraditional, and continuing education students. In addition, because the University is a Microsoft IT Academy, computer courses from basics to computer certifications at the highest level are available at this location. Persons should feel free to contact the office to suggest additional course offerings. Whether one is pursuing a degree or just an interest in a particular topic, Cheyney University Center City (CUCC) has much to offer. Persons who have college credits and life experience will want to consider obtaining a degree in Liberal Studies. Many of the Liberal Studies courses will be offered at this location. IT related occupations and Healthcare related occupations have the fastest and highest projected growth through 2018 (Source: US Bureau of Labor Statistics). IT workers must continually update and acquire new skills to remain qualified in this dynamic field. Completion of vocational training also is an asset. Many employers regard these certifications as the industry standard, and some require their employees to be certified. 5 Health Professional Related Courses Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) combines as one program. At the completion of this course, each student will be eligible to take the national certification exam as, Medical Administrative Assistant, a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist and also a Microsoft Certified Application Specialist. 6 What do they do? Pharmacy Technicians work in pharmacies under the direction of a pharmacist. Their main responsibility is filling prescriptions according to doctors orders. The Phlebotomist is a vital member of the clinical laboratory team, whose main function is to obtain patient s blood specimens by venipuncture and microcollection. The field of Phlebotomy has greatly expanded in the pat several years, and the role of this integral member of the health care team has recently been brought into much sharper focus. 7 Real Estate Related Courses Real Estate Fundamentals This course provides basic knowledge to serve as a foundation for additional courses. Real Estate Fundamentals is a 30 hr. course focusing on the fundamentals of real estate law and terminology. The student shall be exposed to the basic concepts of real estate ownership, land usage, contracts, sales, and taxation. Course will also serve as an introduction to the methods of financing real estate transactions throughout the country. This course provides one half of the necessary credit hours to sit for the Pennsylvania State Licensing Exam. Pennsylvania Real Estate Practices: 30hr. course which designed to familiarize the student with the laws and customs of real estate transactions in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Special attention is placed on agency relationships, Fair Housing Law, Appraising, and property management. The course is designed to prepare the student for a career as a Pennsylvania Real Estate Salesperson.
