A unified Meta-Model How to combine the different approaches within the Oracle BPA Suite? 4. Powerful analysis capabilities Get the most out of your content! 5. Setting up of the Oracle BPA Suite Things to keep in mind when using the Oracle BPA Suite! OPITZ CONSULTING GmbH 2010 Page 3
A few definitions (from us and OASIS) Enterprise Architecture An enterprise architecture (EA) is a conceptual blueprint that defines the structure and operation of an organization. The intent of an enterprise architecture is to determine how an organization can most effectively achieve its current and future objectives. Business Process Management Business Process Management (BPM) covers every activity to effectively structure, develop, execute and measure the processes of an organization. It is must be distinguished into Business BPM and Technical BPM. Service Oriented Architecture Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a paradigm for organizing and utilizing distributed capabilities that may be under the control of different ownership domains. (Source: OASIS) OPITZ CONSULTING GmbH 2010 Page 4

The OPITZ BPA Suite Methodology How it all fits (and belongs) together! Building Block Enterprise Architecture Delivers high level process and organizational information Building Block Business Process Specification Delivers high level Information about the IT system architecture Delivers high level information about the SOA architecture Delivers information about required IT systems Delivers information about required SOA support for the business Building Block Functional IT Specification Delivers information about service identification, domain clustering and BPEL generation Building Block SOA Specification OPITZ CONSULTING GmbH 2010 Page 13
Powerful analysis capabilities Application System Management Can you identify and name the major applications system cost driver (e.g. for maintenance)? Can you give an easy overview of the actual and future license costs? Technology Change Do you know where you can save money by switching from one technology to another? Do you have an overview how streamlined processes can save costs in the overall perspective? Can you specify the expected costs for a technology change? OPITZ CONSULTING GmbH 2010 Page 14
Powerful analysis capabilities Business Continuity Can you identify business critical data, applications, processes, hardware components or general infrastructure? Do you have a supporting model for disaster recovery that support business and IT with a single source of truth? IT Project and Portfolio Management What impact do actual and future project have on your company s IT? Do you have a centralized documentation that supports your project portfolio management? OPITZ CONSULTING GmbH 2010 Page 15
Powerful analysis capabilities Service Level Agreements Do you know whether your SLAs are coherent? Are you 100% sure that your SLAs fit to your business model? Do you have an idea how many you can save by optimizing your SLAs? and much more behind the focus of using the tool only as BPM modeler! OPITZ CONSULTING GmbH 2010 Page 16
