2 Masters in Healthcare Administration Outcomes Assessment Results For Academic Year: Section I: Student Learning Assessment Intended Student Learning Outcomes for (Program 1) : Student Learning Assessment for Masters in Health Care Administration 1. Evaluate strategies based on concepts of leadership and management theory. 2. Convey thoughts and ideas effectively and assertively. 3. Interpret, synthesize, and apply concepts to evaluate and solve a variety of health care business scenarios, through problem recognition, project management, strategic analysis and integration, and application of quantitative methods to real world business situations. 4. Demonstrate an ability to acknowledge and to recognize those differences that exist among all individuals, such as race, religion, language, values, culture, and other unique characteristics. 5. Maintain the highest ethical, professional, and legal standards of conduct 6. Demonstrate an appropriate working knowledge of basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Direct Measures of Student Learning: Performance Targets/Criteria for Direct Measures: 1. Capstone Project All MHA students will score at least 80% on their culmination experience projects. 2. Comprehensive Exam (Case-Studies) All MHA Students will score at least 80% on their comprehensive Case- Studies (Exam). Indirect Measures of Student Learning: Performance Targets/Criteria for Indirect Measures: 1. Graduate Survey At least 85% of graduates (6 months post grad) will express a high level IACBE Annual Report:

3 of satisfaction from their learning experiences. 2. Employer Survey At least 90% of employers will indicate that Clarkson MHA graduates are well equipped for employment in the healthcare business setting. Summary of Results from Implementing Direct Measures of Student Learning: 1. All student successfully completed their capstone projects with a score of 80% or higher. The average score on the capstone project was 95% % of students passed the Comprehensive Exam on the first attempt with an 80% or higher. The students who did not pass with an 80% or higher were asked to redo the case studies that were unacceptable. After the second attempt, all students were successful and passed with 80% or higher. The average score on the comprehensive exam was 91%. Summary of Results from Implementing Indirect Measures of Student Learning: graduate surveys were sent out, only 10% of students returned the survey. The one student who returned the survey was extremely satisfied with her education and learning experiences at Clarkson College. 2. Since only 1 graduate survey was returned, only 1 employer was surveyed. The employer did return the survey and was 100% satisfied with the overall quality of the student and their knowledge base. Proposed Courses of Action for Improvement in Areas for which Performance Targets Were Not Met: 2. Direct Measure 2: The performance target for this assignment needs to be adjusted. Since we allow students to redo the case studies that they did not earn an 80% or higher on, I think it is unrealistic to state ALL student will pass. The target will be revised to state that 80% of students will pass their comprehensive exam on the first attempt with an 80% or higher. After the student is allowed to redo their incorrect case-studies, we would expect the ALL students to successfully pass with an 80% or higher. 3. Indirect Measure 1: Students were informed that this survey would be coming 6 months post graduation. The Alumni Relations office sent out the survey, and I am wondering if the studetns ingnored the since it did not come directly from the program. I will continue to monitor this. If the low response rate continues, the process might need to be relooked at. IACBE Annual Report:

4 Bachelor s degree in Healthcare Business Management Outcomes Assessment Results For Academic Year: Section I: Student Learning Assessment Intended Student Learning Outcomes for (Program 1) : Student Learning Assessment for Bachelor of Science in Health Care Business Management 1. Relate and integrate the concepts of accounting, marketing, finance, management, law, economics, and global business to the health care business environment. 2. Practice awareness of cultural, ethnic, gender and lifestyle differences. Demonstrate proficiency of written and verbal communication skills necessary for the health care business environment. 3. Apply and use the appropriate technology and decision support tools in order to succeed in the health care business setting. 4. Demonstrate ethical, professional, and legal standards of conduct appropriate in health care business. Direct Measures of Student Learning: Performance Targets/Criteria for Direct Measures: 1. Internship Project All HCBM students will score at least 80% on their internship projects 2. End of Program Comprehensive Questions. All HCBM Students will score at least 80% on their internship comprehensive reports. Indirect Measures of Student Learning: Performance Targets/Criteria for Indirect Measures: 1. Graduate Survey At least 85% of graduates (6 months post grad) will express a high level of satisfaction from their learning experiences. 2. Employer Survey At least 90% of employers will indicate that Clarkson HCBM students are well equipped for employment in the healthcare business setting. Summary of Results from Implementing Direct Measures of Student Learning: IACBE Annual Report:

5 1. All students scored above an 80% on their internship projects. The lowest score on the internship project was 90%. 2. All students scored above an 80% on their comprehensive questions. The average score on the comprehensive questions was a 96%. Met Not Met Summary of Results from Implementing Indirect Measures of Student Learning: 1. A total of 4 surveys were sent out for the HCBM graduates. 0% of the surveys were returned. 2. Since 0% of the graduate surveys were returned, no employer surveys were sent out. Proposed Courses of Action for Improvement in Areas for which Performance Targets Were Not Met: 1. Indirect Measure 1 and 2: Students were informed that this survey would be coming 6 months post graduation. The Alumni Relations office sent out the survey, and I am wondering if the students ingnored the since it did not come directly from the program. Conintue to Monitor the process. If these results do not get better, the program will either need to decide whether this is an effective way to measure student success, or the process of surveying students may need to be reevaluated. 6 Associate degree in Health Information Technology Outcomes Assessment Results For Academic Year: Section I: Student Learning Assessment Intended Student Learning Outcomes for (Program 1) : Student Learning Assessment for Associate of Science in Health Information Technology 1. Ascertain the entry-level competencies of AHIMA s domains and sub-domains for a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT). 2. Practice awareness of cultural, ethnic, gender and lifestyle differences. Demonstrate proficiency of written and verbal communication skills necessary for the HIM environment. 3. Apply and use the appropriate technology and decision support tools in order to succeed in the HIM setting. 4. Demonstrate ethical, professional, and legal standards of conduct appropriate for the environment of HIM. Direct Measures of Student Learning: Performance Targets/Criteria for Direct Measures: 1. RHIT Certification Exam 95% of HIM Associate degree graduates will pass the RHIT certification exam on the first attempt. 2. RHIT Comprehensive Exam. 95% of HIM Associate degree students will successfully pass the RHIT comprehensive exam with a 70% or higher. Indirect Measures of Student Learning: Performance Targets/Criteria for Indirect Measures: 1. Graduate Survey At least 85% of graduates (6 months post grad) will express a high level of satisfaction from their learning experiences. 2. 7 Summary of Results from Implementing Direct Measures of Student Learning: % of graduates who took the RHIT certification exam passed on the first attempt. There were 4 students who graduated in : 2 students sat for and passed their certification exam, 1 student did not take the exam as they decided to go on for the Bachelor s degree, and 1 student did not take the exam at all % of students successfully passed the RHIT Comprehensive exam with a 70% or higher. The average score on the comprehensive exam was 67.5%. Summary of Results from Implementing Indirect Measures of Student Learning: 1. Of the 4 students who graduated, only 25% of students returned the survey. The one student who returned the survey was extremely satisfied with her education and learning experiences at Clarkson College. 2. Since only 1 graduate survey was returned, only 1 employer was surveyed. The employer did return the survey and was 100% satisfied with the overall quality of the student and their knowledge base. Proposed Courses of Action for Improvement in Areas for which Performance Targets Were Not Met: 1. Direct Measure 1: Students are now allowed to take the RHIT certification exam their last semester of study instead of waiting until after graduation. With this change, students are now required to sit for their RHIT certification as part of the degree program and will not graduate until they have sat for the exam. This will ensure that all students take the exam prior to graduation. 2. Direct Measure 2: Students stated that it had been so long since they had some of the classes that they felt a review was needed prior to taking the exam. An online review of the program material will now be given prior to the students taking the comprehensive exam. 3. Indirect Measure 1: Students were informed that this survey would be coming 6 months post graduation. The Alumni Relations office sent out the survey, and I am wondering if the studetns ingnored the since it did not come directly from the program. I will continue to monitor this.
