2 II. MISSION STATEMENT and VISION STATEMENT MISSION The Master of Science in Sport Studies and Athletic Administration provides a strong foundation in research methodology, sports administration, management, and finances. Through quality instruction and educational experiences, graduates of this program will be able to move into positions in athletic administration; facilities management; sports event planning; and coaching. VISION The Master of Science in Sport Studies and Athletic Administration will provide qualified, knowledgeable graduates to serve in Oklahoma and northern Texas as coaches and/or athletic administrators in the school setting or as leaders in the athletic profession.

3 III. OBJECTIVES/LEARNING OUTCOMES The Master of Science in Sport Studies and Athletic Administration will: 1. prepare candidates for administrative responsibilities in athletics, including sports management, finances, and fund raising; 2. introduce candidates to research methodology in athletics and sport science; 3. enhance the understanding of facilities management and event planning; 4. familiarize candidates with contemporary issues and legal aspects of physical education and sports management; 5. enhance understanding of coaching theory and strategies; 6. provide the candidate with the most current knowledge of strength training, sports conditioning, and sports nutrition. A. Students Program completers will be used to assess the program goals and objectives. B. Artifacts and Assessment Protocols Data are collected on various artifacts. These assessments are aligned with the program goals and objectives. The table below reflects the artifacts and protocol as well as the course or time the assessment is given. 4 C. Analyses Most data are summarized using means. An alignment table is presented that aligns objectives/goals with the assessment. A descriptive analysis is used to compare current and historical data.

5 IV. PROGRAM MODIFICATIONS The need to modify the program will be determined after consideration of the assessment results, certification changes that require program modifications, and/or discussions among faculty members. Program modifications will be noted in the annual reports and changes will be evaluated on upcoming assessments relative to the modifications.

6 V. DISTANCE EDUCATION The Master of Science in Sport Studies and Athletic Administration offers many webbased courses without a face-to-face comparison. Data are gathered using rubrics on artifacts submitted in these courses and mean scores are calculated. Some artifacts are not course imbedded. These are the writing sample and the comprehensive exams.

7 VI. FACULTY INVOLVEMENT All graduate faculty members are involved in the decision-making process and have a voice in any and all changes made in the program. These faculty members have input and the opportunity for feedback at any time. Each faculty member is responsible for assessing student s performance, recording assessment results, and reporting the data pertinent to the required assessment instrument in his/her respective class/es. The faculty assessment of students in the respective classes is based on performance as well as the quality of assigned presentations and the quality of other required work. Data are collected from the faculty members involved with the respective assessment instruments. The graduate faculty meets for formal and informal discussions regarding the assessment of student outcomes. A three member departmental committee works together to create the report. All graduate faculty members receive a copy of the report and input for change is requested. In order to enhance the evaluation of students work, most faculty members have created and incorporated rubrics into their assessments.

8 VII. TRANSPARENCY Constituents are faculty members and student-majors in the department as well as athletic staff members. Departmental faculty members have access to every report filed as well as all feedback received. Additionally, the public school personnel are our constituents. Efforts are made in a variety of ways to share the positive news about our program. Professional sports teams and other public sports organizations are also constituents. Information will be sent to the various organizations to promote our program and public relation articles about our student-majors will help to advertise their accomplishments.
