1 University Transfer Plan for Glen Oaks Community College Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Education With a Major in Secondary Education (General Plan) College of Education The following plan is a guide for students who wish to begin their coursework at Glen Oaks Community College and transfer to the Secondary Education program offered by the College of Education at University. Not more than 6 hours from a two-year school will apply toward a University degree, but all earned hours which transfer will be listed on the University student record. Please see an academic adviser in the College of Education at University for a curriculum guide. The information contained in this transfer plan is based on the Glen Oaks Community College Catalog, and the University Undergraduate Bulletin. Note: All Education teaching major and teaching minor coursework must be passed with a minimum grade of C (2.0) to be applied toward the degree. 2 The Secondary Education Program The Secondary Education program leads to a Michigan Secondary Provisional Teaching Certificate for teaching in grades Some majors lead to K-12 certification and are attached to the Secondary Provisional Teaching Certificate. These majors include Dance Education, Physical Education (Kinesiology Pedagogy), Music Education and Visual Arts Education. The program for Secondary Education consists of University General Education Requirements (Competency Requirements, and Group Requirements), College Requirements, a teaching major, a teaching minor, and a sequence of professional education courses including one semester of prestudent teaching and one semester of student teaching. The policy of the College of Education is to provide teaching experiences in both an urban and a suburban setting. Admission to the College of Education Admission to the College of Education at University is based on two levels. If granted admission to University, students that indicated their intent to pursue a program in the College of Education on the application for undergraduate admission are admitted directly to Level 1. Students at this level are working to fulfill University General Education requirements, College of Education requirements, and any additional requirements for admission to Level 2. Students at Level 1 also begin taking courses in their teaching major and minor. Admission to Level 2 requires a separate application, available in room 69 of the College of Education or online at: A student does not complete a Level 2 application until all Level 2 requirements have been fulfilled. Admission to Level 2 is not competitive: students that meet all requirements will be admitted. 3 University General Education requirements exist in two categories: Competency Requirements and Group Requirements. Transfer credits awarded at University are equal to the number of credits awarded at the transferring institution. Unless otherwise noted, please select one course to fulfill each requirement. If two courses are listed together with a + sign, then both courses are required to fulfill the single requirement. In meeting Group Requirements, please note that a given University subject area code (eg., ANT, HIS, PS, etc.) may not be used more than twice, that a course must be at least three semester hours to meet the requirement, and that courses may not be taken on a pass/fail basis. A BS in Education degree requires completing a foreign culture course taught in English about another culture. A BA in Education degree requires completing a foreign language through the intermediate level. This transfer plan shows all available course options for transfer students. It may not be necessary or advisable to complete all of the course work outlined in this plan before transferring to Wayne State University. Doing so could result in unnecessary time and money spent repeating courses that exceed the maximum of sixty-four (6) transferable credits. It is the responsibility of the student to seek guidance from an academic advisor in the College of Education at University in order to understand the most advantageous use of transferred credit hours in fulfilling University degree requirements.
