2 Competencies of Guidance Counselors in La Union: Basis for a Training Program Mary Jane O. De Leon Pearl Natalie B. Estrada, MS This study assessed the competencies of college guidance counselors in La Union by identifying the profile of the respondents and their perceived levels of competency, the psychometric properties of the developed competency test in terms of reliability and validity, the actual level of competency of the guidance counselors; determined whether there was a significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and their level of actual competencies as measured by the developed competency test; and suggested a training plan on guidance and counseling. The descriptive-evaluative type of research was employed. The study found out that the respondents varied in terms of age, sex, baccalaureate degree, highest educational attainment, attendance to trainings and seminars, and licensure examinations taken There was a high level of perceived competency of the respondents which signifies that they have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to carry out the work of guidance and counseling. There was no significant relationship between the level of actual competencies in the five areas of guidance and counseling. The result of the developed competency test is a good basis on what training plan should be prepared for the guidance counselors. 3 Psychological and Academic Well-Being of Students in Lyceum-Northwestern University: Basis for a Wellness Program Jo Ann V. Hidalgo Remedios C. Neroza This study determined the psychological and academic well-being of the students. This descriptive-correlational study collected data through the administration of questionnaire and standardized test to 211 students from the College of Tourism, Engineering, and Criminology. T-test and ANOVA were used to test differences and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation was used to test relationships. The findings of the study showed that students have low level of psychological well-being. The study found significant differences in EPI dimensions and gender. There is also significant differences of the respondents in terms of their courses along the dyscontrol dimension; IQ level and gregariousness; income bracket and trust, dyscontrol, and gregariousness respectively. The academic well-being of students in terms of GPA is average. There were significant differences noted among the students GPA along profile variables. The GPA is significantly related with some EPI dimension such as trust, distrust, control, aggression, and gregariousness. There was no relationship noted between GPA and emotional quotient; GPA and psychological needs. Key words: psychological and academic well-being, wellness program
4 Awareness of High School Students of Sex-Related Activities: Basis for a Guidance Program Racquel C. Laroya Marcelina H. Ayson, Ed. D. This study determined the awareness of high school students on sex-related activities within the Tubao District. Specifically, it determined the respondents personal profile, psychological profile, and sex related activities profile in relation to their reasons for engaging in sex related activities. Results became the basis for the Guidance Program. Descriptive research design was employed. Findings showed that majority of the respondents were females; were 1 st -3 rd born; average in academic performance; have a family income of P5000 and below. They were in high succorance and they valued variety. Respondents were seldom aware about kissing. Their engagement in sex related activities was not influenced as a sex related activity by any of the indicated reasons. Relationships showed that there are no significant relationships between respondents profile and their personality as well as with their reasons in sex related activities engagement. However, the respondents values and sex related activities profile are significantly related with sex related activities engagement. Based from the findings, the implementation of the guidance program with the inclusion of activities related to their values and personality concerns was recommended. 5 A Case Study of Overseas Filipino Workers Wives Zenaida DC. Pascua Pearl Natalie B. Estrada This case study made use of a self-constructed questionnaire and a standardized test which collated the profile, psychological problems, and personality of the respondents which served as the basis for the proposed wellness activities. There were six (6) OFW wives taken as respondents. Majority of them are college graduates with seafarers husbands. Most of the respondents are housekeepers and are receiving above 40,000 pesos monthly family income. The study found out that all of the respondents experience deep longing for their husbands and some encounter gossips on common issues of money and of being linked with the opposite sex. Generally, either they never or seldom experience any of the dimensions of the psychological problems. However, all of them do not experience problems about their husbands and do not have doubts about their husbands and do not have problems concerning their relationships. All of them are active in the church where they belong and claim that they do not have psychological problems as a result of their trust in God. Key words: case study, Overseas Filipino Workers
6 Non-Cognitive Predictors of Academic Performance of School Children at Sto. Tomas Central School, Sto. Tomas, La Union: Basis for a Proposed Parent s Personality Enhancement Program Marilyn V. Eslabra Ester U. Ugay, MA The study determined the effects of non-cognitive predictors of academic performance of school children at Sto. Tomas Central School, Sto.Tomas, La Union which served as a basis for a proposed parent s personality enhancement program. It determined the profile of the parent-respondents; the level of academic performance of the grade 2 school children (pupil-respondents); and established whether there was a significant relationship between the parents profile and the non-cognitive predictors of academic performance; and between the non-cognitive predictors and the academic performance of the grade 2 school children. The study made use of the descriptive method. The study found out that majority of the parent-respondents were female and in the early-adulthood stage, married with 1-3 numbers of children only and earning an estimated monthly income of 5000 pesos and below and follow the democratic parenting style. There was a significant relationship between the parents personality and the academic performance of the pupils; and parents motivation had a significant relationship with the academic performance of the children. 7 Resiliency Traits of High School Students: Basis for a Guidance and Counseling Program Katejah M. Purisima Remedios C. Neroza, Ed. D. This study identified the resiliency traits and the extent of influence of the external factors to resiliency of high school students which served as basis for a guidance and counseling program. This descriptive study collected data using questionnaire and standardized test administered to 160 students. All variables were compared in relation to the internal resiliency traits and external factors. The external factors highly influenced the students to be resilient. There were positive and inverse significant correlations between internal resiliency traits and external factors. Based on the findings, there is a need to extend the use of the present Guidance and Counseling but there is an absence of a program that focuses on the resiliency of the students, thus, the development of Guidance and Counseling Program is a very important tool for the development of the students totality while sustaining and strengthening their resiliency traits. 8 Guidance Intervention Practices of Saint Louis College: Basis for Guidance Action Plan Maureen C. Rivera Remedios C. Neroza, Ed. D. The study determined the guidance practices of Saint Louis College, particularly in assisting the probationary students to improve and regain their academic status. The intent was to assess the intervention practices given to academic probationary students as a basis for a proposed enhancement plan to help the students pursue academic excellence as well as in other interrelated aspects of their college life. The study found out that the profiles of the academic probationary students varied according to their personal profile, academic profile, and psychological profile. Moreover, there was significant difference in the respondent s awareness particularly along monitoring. A Guidance Action Plan on intervention practices was designed for the academic probationary program of Saint Louis College for their students to regain regular student status. The study aimed to prepare a personality development program for children of OFWs at the Christ the King College based on the personal profile of the respondents which includes psychological status, intelligence, personality and problems, academic performance and; relationship between the psychological profile and the academic performance. The descriptive normative survey research design was used. The study found out that the varied characteristics of the children of OFWs in CKC adhere to the principle on uniqueness of an individual. Psychological profile along intelligence, personality, and problems are greatly associated with academic performance of the OFWs children. The formulated personality development program is designed to address the needs and concerns of the OFWs children. Key words: overseas Filipino workers, personality development program
10 Stress Level of Working Women of City of San Fernando, La Union: Basis for a Wellness Sustainability Program Prixies R. Sambrano Remedios C. Neroza, Ed. D. The study determined the stress level and coping mechanisms of working women of Barangays Poro and Ilocanos Sur, City of San Fernando, La Union. It identified and analyzed the profile of the respondents, stress level related factors; and coping mechanisms. This descriptive study found out that stress level of the working women were all average. The degree of utilization of coping mechanism of the working women was all moderately utilized. Significant differences were noted between the occupation of the working women and their coping mechanisms; between the occupation of husband of the working women and their mechanisms; between the number of children and their coping mechanisms; between the educational attainment and all of the coping mechanisms; and between the monthly income and all of the coping mechanisms. There was no significant difference between the occupation of the working women and the emotional coping mechanism; between the occupation of the husband and their social and the emotional coping mechanism; between the number of children and the emotional and spiritual coping mechanisms. A wellness sustainability program was developed based on the significance of related variables. Key words: stress, stress level, working women, wellness sustainability program
11 Needs, Problems, and Personality Characteristics of Students from Broken Families Enrolled at DMMMSU-SLUC: An Input to a Guidance and Counseling Program Christine Joy U. Ugay Remedios C. Neroza, Ed. D. The study determined the needs, problems, and personality characteristics of students belonging to broken families enrolled at DMMMSU-SLUC as basis for Guidance and Counseling Program. It identified and analyzed the personal profile of the respondents as to age, gender, birth order, and course, and family profile of the respondents as to socio-economic status and living arrangements. The study made use of two sets of questionnaire. The first determined the home conditions of the respondents specifically as to whether they were living with both parents or not and the reasons for such a condition. The second tool was the cumulative records of students which are filed at the guidance office and were used to gather the information on the profile of the respondents. Psychological tests were administered to the respondents to determine the needs, problems, and personality characteristics. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to determine if there was significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and the needs, problems, and their personality characteristics. A guidance program was developed to address the needs and problems of the respondents based on the results of this study. 12 Needs and Aspirations, Work and Personal Values of Single Midlife Secondary School Teachers in Pangasinan II: Bases for Values Enhancement Program Ofelia P. Dumo Eligio B. Sacayanan, Ed. D. This study determined the needs and aspirations, work and personal values of single midlife secondary school teachers in Pangasinan II by identifying the demographic profile of the respondents; work and personal values; level of teaching performance; and establishing the significant relationship between the teachers teaching performance and their work values. Comparative descriptive method of investigation was employed. The study found out that there were more female single midlife teachers than male, within years of age, earning , 000 pesos monthly, with MA/MS academic requirements, 15 to 20 years teaching experience, Teacher I and III academic ranks, and very satisfactory performance rating. Single midlife teachers value creativity, management, way of life, associates, aesthetics, independence, variety, economic return, altruism and prestige and achievement, surroundings, relationship with the supervisor, intellectual growth and security. Majority of the single midlife teachers are very high in orderliness and variety and low in goal orientation. They perceived social, psychological - emotional, spiritual-moral needs, and career and character building needs as general needs while educational attainment and position held are significantly related to the teacher s performance rating. 13 Job Motivation of Faculty Members of DMMMSU-SLUC: Basis for Values Re-orientation Program Joji Ann F. Regacho Manuel T. Libao, Ed. D. This study pinpointed the factors that best predict the level of job motivation of the faculty members of DMMMSU-SLUC for SY Specifically, it determined the socio-economic profile of the faculty members, the level of job motivation and whether there is a significant relationship between the level of job motivation and the socioeconomic profile of the faculty; between personal values of faculty and their level of job motivation. Furthermore, the study proposed a values re-orientation program. The study used the descriptive method. The study found out that the faculty members were within the age bracket of years old; female dominated, master s degree or unit holders, tenured holding instructor positions with P 17,999-23,999 salary range. Furthermore, most of the faculty attended local seminars/trainings. The respondents job motivators were compensation, achievement, professional growth and interpersonal relationship, responsibility, recognition, job security and working conditions. Majority of the faculty upholds values of variety, decisiveness and orderliness but low in goal-orientation. Key words: job motivation, values re-orientation program, faculty members
