1 PROGRAMME SPECIFICATION KEY FACTS Programme name Master of European Business Award MEB School Cass Business School Department or equivalent UG Programme (Cass Business School) Programme code USEBST Type of study Full Time Total UK credits 120 Total ECTS 60 PROGRAMME SUMMARY The Master of European Business (MEB) acts as an extension to your three-year degree and is only available to Cass undergraduate students (with the exception of those who have studied BSc Actuarial Science). It is defined as an integrated Masters programme. The MEB year of study can improve your chances of acquiring an interesting job, either in the UK or abroad. You will study at Masters level and you will show that you are capable of functioning in another country and often in another language. You will be a much more experienced person with an international outlook on business. Once you complete your BSc, you spend the first half of the MEB extension year at one of our European partner institutions studying in either the native language, or in English, depending on your language ability. Whilst abroad, you may also opt to organise a nonassessed work internship, after completing your modules. Cass has currently five Exchange partner schools, ESCP in Paris, France, Solvay University in Brussels, Belgium, LUISS in Rome, Italy, the Technical University in Berlin, Germany, and the University of Vienna, Austria. Each of these has been chosen as they offer a range of modules at Masters level comparable with those taken in Cass. In so far as possible, the range of courses selected as suitable for students to take at our partner schools, facilitate the study of business in a European context. The second half of the year is spent at Cass taking Masters elective modules and writing a dissertation. On successful completion of the MEB, you will be awarded both your BSc and MEB degrees. Aims The aim of the Master of European Business is to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to operate in business in more than one European country. 1

2 WHAT WILL I BE EXPECTED TO ACHIEVE? On successful completion of this programme, you will be expected to be able to: Knowledge and understanding: Display advanced knowledge and understanding of business and management in European countries Skills: Undertake independent research, to formulate a research question, analyse it, and present the results in a coherent manner Communicate effectively orally and in writing using a wide range of media Work in a different cultural environment, with people from other countries in a language other than English where sufficiently fluent. Values and attitudes: Manifest an international understanding and the ability to work and thrive in different countries HOW WILL I LEARN? Teaching and Learning methods, at both the host institution and Cass, are designed to foster your knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subject and stimulate engagement and participation in the learning process. They encourage learning in depth and encourage you to reflect on and take responsibility for your own learning and to develop your academic self-confidence. Lectures provide knowledge and should stimulate enthusiasm. Tutorials are opportunities to apply the knowledge and to participate in the discussion of the subject area. Learning in depth is a consequence of self- directed learning, often performed in conjunction with coursework assessments or revision for examinations. WHAT TYPES OF ASSESSMENT AND FEEDBACK CAN I EXPECT? Assessment and Assessment Criteria Assessment, at both the host institution and Cass, is carried out according to context and purpose and recognises that you may exhibit different aptitudes in different forms of assessment. In addition to assessing subject knowledge and understanding with a specific focus on management, the programme also assesses the ability to use business ideas/problem solving in the context of applications, the ability to carry out a substantial piece of independent work and the ability to communicate effectively. 2

3 Assessment at Partner University You will be required to abide by the Assessment Regulations of the Partner University whilst you are studying there. In order to receive the full 30 ECTS credits, you must take and pass all of the required assessments for each module at the Partner University. You are required to pass the modules according to the host institution s assessment regulations. Resit assessments must be taken for any failed modules. Module grades from Partner Universities are converted back to Cass equivalents (a Grade Conversion table is included in the Student Handbook) and then averaged. You are then provided with an overall mark for the study abroad period. Assessment at Cass Business School The two Masters modules taken at Cass Business School are assessed by coursework only and apply standard MSc grade related criteria. Assessment Criteria are descriptions, based on the intended learning outcomes, of the skills, knowledge or attitudes that you need to demonstrate in order to complete an assessment successfully, providing a mechanism by which the quality of an assessment can be measured. Grade- Related Criteria are descriptions of the level of skills, knowledge or attributes that you need to demonstrate in order achieve a certain grade or mark in an assessment, providing a mechanism by which the quality of an assessment can be measured and placed within the overall set of marks. Assessment Criteria and Grade-Related Criteria will be made available to you to support you in completing assessments. These may be provided in programme handbooks, module specifications, on the virtual learning environment or attached to a specific assessment task. Feedback on assessment Feedback will be provided in line with our Assessment and Feedback Policy and will be provided in a variety of ways throughout your course, both formally and informally, in order to support your learning. You will normally be provided with coursework feedback within three weeks of the submission deadline or assessment date. This would normally include a provisional grade or mark. The timescale for feedback on final projects or dissertations may be longer. Examination grades will be provided once they have been agreed by an Assessment Board. 4 Assessment Regulations In order to pass your Programme, you should complete successfully the required number of credits. The Pass mark for each module is 50%. If you fail an assessment component or a module, the following will apply: Resit: you will normally be offered one resit attempt. However, if you did not participate in the first assessment and have no extenuating circumstances, you may not be offered a resit. If you are successful in the resit, you shall be awarded the credit for that module. The mark used for the purpose of calculation towards your Award shall be calculated from the original marks for the component(s) that you passed at first attempt and the minimum pass mark for the component(s) for which you took a resit. If you fail to meet the requirements for the Programme and are not eligible for the award of a lower level qualification, the Assessment Board shall require that you withdraw from the Programme. Guidelines are provided for choosing Masters level modules at the partner university. The modules can be taken in either English or the host language (depending on confirmation of your language level), or a combination of both and must be related to European business and management. Languages are not acceptable for credit. However, these can be taken as additional modules, if you wish. 4

5 Following completion of your credit bearing modules, you may want to continue studying additional non credit bearing modules at the partner university or to undertake an optional, non-assessed work internship, before you return to Cass. Stage 2 (May - July) - one semester at Cass studying one core module and one Specialist Masters elective ( 20 credits). Plus, a dissertation on an international topic (40 credits).
