4 Proceeds of Crime We are usually instructed by a Solicitor whose client has been convicted of a crime and served with a confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Defendants are often left astounded at the amounts claimed by the Prosecution as being a benefit arising from criminal activities. As forensic accountants, we will examine the Prosecution s report and identify any legitimate income that has been incorrectly included as a benefit from crime. We will also review the available evidence in regard to the Defendant s assets and make any adjustments that are needed. The reports we prepare include a detailed examination of the Defendant s financial records in a clear and precise layout.
