Coordinates with the College Deans and approve the assigning of courses and non-instructional assignments to full and part-time faculty. Encourages and supports research, grant writing, publishing and other scholarly activities of the faculty. Works closely with the Presiding Officer of the Faculty Senate to promote quality and shared faculty governance and ensure communication with faculty. Provides leadership for all academic programs; works with the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Nursing and Allied Health, and University College deans and faculty to facilitate appropriate program development. Ensures systematic review of programs (majors) to ensure quality and current course content. Formulate, maintain and implement a high-quality curriculum appropriate to the mission of the university. Provides leadership for academic program review and development. Supervises College Deans, Associate VPAA and Academic Affairs office staff and works with academic department chairs as needed.

Sierra Nevada College, Incline Village, Nevada 9/ /2014 President 11/ /2014 Developed and successfully executed our strategy to transform the college and establish financial sustainability. Eliminated historic operating deficits of $3.5 million annually, created positive operating surpluses, and increased net equity year-over-year. Increased retention and graduation rates, doubled undergraduate net tuition revenue, and achieved the highest undergraduate enrollment in the history of the College. Received reaffirmation of accreditation by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Received five commendations including campus-wide commitment to mission, unified vison, and positive faculty and staff morale in the wake of measures necessary to ensure financial stability. Continued to increase academic excellence. Expanded and enhanced the use of high-impact educational practices, active and experiential learning, and faculty scholarship. Developed a First Year Experience course and expanded study abroad programs. Created writing, oral communication, and critical thinking intensive courses across the curriculum. Raised $2.5M to establish the Holman Arts & Media Center and raised $1.5M to $2M annually in support of scholarships, faculty, and new academic programs. Established strategic partnerships, most notably with Middlebury College and Vail Resorts, Inc., that increased academic quality, net revenue, and our regional and national profile. Lynn G. 3 Added new academic programs, including a low-residency MFA in Creative Writing, a low-residency MFA in Art, and an online Master of Arts in Administration. Launched a new marketing and branding campaign that emphasized our active and experiential learning environment and our location at Lake Tahoe. Determined major strategies and supervised the planning process for the new strategic plan. Expanded athletic programs and initiated successful application to the NAIA for further expansion. Achieved regional and national rankings, including: Colleges of Distinction, Highest Graduation Rate in Nevada, and Greenest College in Nevada. Executive Vice President and Provost 2/ /2011 Provost 5/2008 2/2009 Transformed the academic experience by embracing active and experiential learning, and high-impact educational practices. Implemented active learning in every class, service learning for all interdisciplinary majors, undergraduate research and capstone courses in every major, student academic competitions, student symposiums, flipped classrooms, and high expectations of students. Increased the amount of faculty scholarship. Encouraged and supported scholarship in a faculty member s discipline, in teaching, and with students in undergraduate research. Led and managed the development of student outcomes assessment in each academic unit and assessment in each administrative unit. Completed two Focused Interim Reports for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Had all pre-existing recommendations removed and received a commendation for student outcomes assessment. Worked closely with the faculty to add new academic programs, including a BFA in Creative Writing, an Outdoor Adventure Leadership major, numerous interdisciplinary majors, online adult degree completion programs in Business Administration and Psychology, a Master of Education in Advanced Teaching and Leadership with on ground and online delivery options, and an online Master of Arts in Teaching. Increased undergraduate enrollment, while lowering the discount rate. Significantly increased retention and graduation rates. Doubled the percentage of academically at-risk students moving into Good Standing by creating an innovative academic support program that utilized peer mentoring, tutoring, and faculty engagement. Chair, Department of Business and Professor of Economics 9/2007 5/2008 Added a major in Ski Business and Resort Management. Added an additional required writing course and capstone courses to the business core curriculum. Co-authored and received a $300,000 grant for our faculty to teach entrepreneurship to young adults from South Africa. Planned and managed the process of reaffirmation of accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and approval of the QEP. Co-authored the 922- page SACS Compliance Certification. Received reaffirmation of accreditation with compliance in every area. Received commendations for student outcomes assessment and general education assessment. Led and managed the development of student outcomes assessment for all academic units and assessment for all administrative units. Developed the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional Research. Created an Academic Support Center to assist retention efforts. Established a faculty development program focused on active learning. Raised undergraduate business enrollment by 63%. Established the first undergraduate business study abroad program, and led three study abroad trips. Created a consulting group of business faculty to increase funding for the college. Placed at top 2% nationwide in student survey of my teaching effectiveness. Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas Dean of the School of Business and Professor of Economics Developed a student learning centered culture. Increased the number of students majoring in Business programs by 97%. Established internship and career placement programs; and created four 1-credit Dean s Seminars for freshmen- through senior-level students, focused on active learning, retention, internships, and career placement.
