17 Suggestions for the way forward Use the outline of the Eastern- Svalbard report from the workgroup on research and educations 1. Describe current research 2. Future research and infrastructure 3. Reference area Make sure all relevant institutions are contacted Formulate a set of questions to pose to relevant institutions to map out current and future plans for research Reference areas- needs and definitions Needs Definitions Locations, restrictions etc. Responsible persons for tasks Next meeting

19 Questions from the Eastern-Svalbard report Current research: How many, where, when (season), types (climate, biology etc.) Logistics and transport (boat, helicopter, other) Interference with the environment, permanent alterations including the storage of fuel? Are any projects dependent on others not being there? (reference needs, disturbance of measurements by traffic etc.) Variation from year to year? Perennial projects? Monitoring stations. Describe the needs in the future. Need for permanent alterations or infrastructure? SIOS? Can some of the research going on in the area today instead performed outside the Reserves or replaced by research without/limited environmental footprint?
