It also provides an opportunity for you to gain talent at a reasonable cost, and it provides our students invaluable experience. UNL Career Services provides support services and resources to employers and students throughout the development, promotion and evaluation of an internship. Questions: Dr. Kelli Smith, Assistant Director smith@unl.edu Developing an Internship Academic Credit Academic credit may become a component of an internship experience, but will be arranged by the student and a UNL faculty member and/or academic department. Identify a need in your organization Designate internship supervisors Assess hours needed to do the work Determine intern compensation Arrange a work space for interns Develop the internship description Promote the opportunity through Husker Hire Link Intern Nebraska (InternNE.com) A partnership between the Nebraska Department of Economic Development and the Nebraska Department of Labor. Intern Nebraska provides funding to eligible companies creating new internship opportunities. UNL Career Services regularly lists these opportunities in our Husker Hire Link system. Best Practices Assign work that is significant to your organization Select supervisors skilled in training and evaluation Outline learning objectives and goals using the Internship Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) form, available at Conduct orientation for interns and supervisors Provide training, on-going education and support Conduct exit interviews and complete the evaluations available at careers/experience/ Hire International Students Enrollment at UNL includes over 2000 students from 130 countries who are studying in the U.S. on a student or exchange visitor visa. These talented students meet the same academic enrollment standards as U.S. students. Many already hold degrees from institutions in their home countries and may have professional experience which can benefit your organization. International students can work in their field of study during academic sessions and vacation periods. In addition, they may work for a short term (12-29 months) after completion of a degree without the need to change their immigration status. You may want to plug the meter for a few minutes.
